Aurelian aka KM3 - "Come Here"
S3A - "Classy MF"
4004 & Sebastien Vorhaus - "Room Selections B"
Creative Swing Alliance - "Freedom"
Review: It's been 12 years since Creative Swing Alliance's Pablo Valentino launched the Faces label, and this is only the imprint's 16th 12" release. Despite the sometimes infuriating infrequency of their releases, Faces records are rarely less than inspired, offering a deliciously soul-soaked take on deep house. This split EP contains four superb offerings in the label's trademark style. There's some loopy, Rhodes-laden goodness from S3A (doing a good impression of Moodymann), a more bumping but thrillingly immersive outing from 4004 & Sebastien Vorhaus (the sumptuous "Selections B"), a lovingly loose and sweet blast of soft focus deepness from Valentino under his Creative Swing Alliance alias, and a bassy chunk of eyes-wide-shut house from Aurelian AKA KM3.

Awanto - "Sit On This"
S3A aka Sampling As An Art - "The Ravist"
Jared Wilson - "You Get Down"
Samuel Andre Madsen - "Waterwalking Paris"
Review: Concrete has been integral in the rebirth of Parisian clubbing culture, offering a unique 19 hour long party that begins early on Sunday and goes on and on in the picturesque setting of the Port De La Rapee on the River Seine. Looking to expand, this new Concrete Music label should operate as an extension of the party commencing with a series of three planned Textures releases inviting local talent and previous guests to contribute. Volume 1 inaugurates the label in style, brandishing original productions from the excellent Jared Wilson, Awanto 3 and Nsyde artist Samuel Andre Madsen as well as Parisian producer S3A (Sampling As An Art). "Sit On This" is a typically dusty slice of house from Awanto 3 which contrasts nicely with the percussion heavy classicist house of "The Ravist" by S3A and the deep acid of Jared Wilson. Madsen takes it deep and moody on "Waterwalking Paris" to end a superb and diverse debut release.

S3A - "Theuz Hamtaak" (5:53)
Moony Me - "Magergarten" (7:06)
Review: Dresden's Uncanny Valley returns with more feelgood deep house vibes courtesy of the usual suspects. Berlin's Max Graef steps up first with "Tittenkuschler" and his typically dusty, hip hop influenced style of production. Next up the man Cuthead returns in typical form with the uplifting and summery vibes "Braziliance' and the smooth, blunted hip-hop of "Of Of'. Next up Theuz Hamtag and Magergarten gives us some sweet discofied jams in the vein of Classic Andres with "S3A and "Moony Me" respectively. Quality as always from this now highly regarded label.

Manuel Darquart - "Next Dance" (4:39)
S3A - "Sleepy Fire" (5:57)
Satoshi - "New Dawn" (feat Kuniyuki - Satoshi & Makoto remix) (5:37)
Review: Established Japanese label Soundofspeed presents the third edition in its 20 year celebrations series. This one features Kiwi duo Manuel Darquart with the late-night mood music of 'Next Dance' which is all over the A side. Flip over and more lo-slung goodies await, firstly it's the slo-mo boogie-down disco vibe of French dusty house expert S3A's 'Sleepy Fire', followed by Satoshi on 'New Dawn' (featuring Kuniyuki). The latter track featured on the last edition in the form of the Percussion Mix, but this version is a serving of sublime Jupiter jazz as remixed by Satoshi & Makoto.

Mika Blaster - "Buisine Ness" (S3A edit) (6:10)
Review: Sampling As An Art Records is back with a new various artists package that has been assembled from talents the label boss has met on the road - musical projects undertaken during and after gigs. This is the first in a series of such releases and it kicks off with a fresh melodic house blast from Morgan, then gets the hands in the air with an old school, percussive piano number with UC Beatz's 'Ain't Good Enough' before S3A appear with 'Layers', a loopy filter house jam with sunshine, disco and soul in equal measure. Last of all is Mika Blaster with the epic sax and humid chords of 'Buisine Ness' (S3A edit).

4000e (6:44)
Spaceship (6:06)
Quick Sheitan (6:18)
Jun (6:24)
Review: Riding on the signature S3A/Sampling As An Artform formula - think dusty, sample-heavy, occasionally disco-tinged deep house workouts that are as playable as they are quirky - the producer has yet to put out a duff release. This outing on Times Are Ruff is predictably up to scratch, too. He begins in fine form via the driving, all-action funkiness of "4000e", before diving deeper via the manipulated vocal samples, chunky beats and big organ stabs of "Spaceship". Over on side B, "Quick Sheitan" brilliantly utilizes sped-up samples from a classic Skky cut with reliably rubbery results, while "Jun" is a deep, disco-funk-fuelled bumper straight off the top shelf.

Doop Doop (5:47)
Emotional M1 (5:55)
Denials (3:58)
Review: Digger doyen S3A makes his debut on Eureka with three jams tailored for these rare warm months. "Doop Doop" flexes around a brilliantly carved backing vocal hook and a killer funk guitar solo in a way that's reminiscent of early Iz & Diz, "Emotional M1" takes us on deeper trip as an ode to one of house music's most influential and iconic synths while "Denials" brings it all together with a slower midtempo break and jazzy flutters so dreamy you'll swear you're wearing your PJs. Artful.

Review: Based out of Amsterdam, Quartet Series is a label run by local house hooligan Nachtbraker. Known for his sample-heavy deep house grooves, he recruits like minds for the label - and this time finds a kindred spirit in the form of Frenchman S3A - he of the Sampling As An Art label out of Paris. From the bombastic, Todd Terry referencing bounce of "Presentiment" (feat Mika Blaster), the funked-up disco house shenanigans of "Wu Impact" through to the sexy, neon-lit, late night deepness of "Influences" - this EP is a right jackathon from start to finish, with a distinctly French Touch indeed.

Dick Jones Track (6:25)
Feels Like Garage (6:09)
Rush (6:18)
Massive Horns (interlude) (2:57)
Review: Few artists are quite as good as S3A at turning dusty, obscure samples into soulful deep house gold. Here, the French producer makes his first appearance on Quintessentials with four more sample-heavy dancefloor workouts. There's naturally plenty to get excited about, from the dirt-encrusted, disco-sampling deep house grooves of "Dick Jones Track" and warm, loved-up piano house vibes of "Feels Like Garage" (of the U.S variety, of course), to the brilliantly bombastic, hip-hop style quick-fix "Massive Horns (Interlude)". Arguably most impressive, though, is the hard-boiled, boogie-era disco-meets-21st century house bump of "Rush". It sounds like a guaranteed party-starting, peak-time smasher.

Looping Strings
The First Year
Seekin' Sunshine
The 4th (variation 2)
Review: Can you believe that this is S3A's sixth record this year! And with beats like this we'd happily welcome another dozen. "Looping Strings" obviously needs no explanation whereas "The First Year" could easily be re-titled: "Looping Horns". "Seekin' Sunshine" introduces a Stevie Wonder funk to the EP and the French producer winds up a great vamp over the course of the track. S3A's final cut, The 4th" (variation 2)", is a bit of filtered disco house that lovers of early Francis Inferno Orchestra, Mic Newman and The Tortoise will scramble to get their hands on first.

Review: It may still be early days for S3A but in a short space of time he has managed to carve a niche in the sample-a-delic world of disco and funk fuelled house music, as the vocal sample attests to in the opening track on his latest EP for Hold Youth. There's certainly no shortage of low-slung goodness to be enjoyed here, From the wistful lilt of "Those Voices" to the rougher tumbling beats of "No More Pretty" S3A has done a bang up job of reappropriating sound sources and working them to his own design, without sounding like yet another knock-off re-edit producer.

Review: It may only be February, but S3A releases his second EP for the Programme imprint. Volume 2 (Forward) features three funky loops of processed acoustics and overdubbed drums, similar to what you could expect from an early Revenge record. Bass licks and guitar twangs frequent in and out of a closed hat dominated groove in "Forward (part 1)" while subtle vocals and disco strings are added in "Forward (part2 - The Anthem Version).Sharing the B-side is "Deep Mood" held together by thick claps, glitter keys and swooning horns.

Review: Swedish imprint Local Talk run by aka Mad Mats & Tooli celebrate such a milestone in style. This being the second volume of the celebrations. Frenchman S3A of Sampling As An Art fame appears; he's had a rapport with the label since 2013 and his contribution "Bob Morton Track" is a serious soul funk explosion dedicated to the ambitious executive in Robocop, The always impressive Boddhi Satva appears too with a bit of help from Sly Johnson on the African blues of "A Mi Sana" as does Sicilian hi-tech soul merchant Toto Chiavetta (Innervisions/Yoruba/Ibadan) with his powerful epic "Approval".

Review: Tongue in cheek comic crew Quartet Series drop their second various artist 12" and kicking off the release is a filter house/disco jam by French head S3A that's got Eddie C and Moodymann inspirations written all over it. Ponty Mython gets in on the marimbas with "Lovin You Is A Pleasure" while NY*AK throws down a chunky slow jam in "Lovess". Rotterdam cat D-Ribeiro then gets busy on the filter-werk and awkward (yet stomping) grooves in "Mansa II" - and check that artwork - boss!

Review: Unlike the late night and early morning vibes of the accompanying Textures 4am and Textures 7am EPs, this installment in Concrete Music's ongoing series seems fixated with the idea of alfresco afternoon dancing. That's no bad thing, of course, and there's a sumptuous, sun-kissed breeziness to the cyclical riffs, shuffling drums and rising string stabs of San Proper's "Sweet Swing 3rd Thing". There's a similarly Balearic goodness to the cheery pianos, woozy soulful vocal samples and breezy beats of S3A's "Orme". Elsewhere, the beats, basslines, melodies and samples are somewhat bolder, suggesting Concrete's daytime parties are suitably raucous affairs
