Review: Proc Fiskal used to run a party called Shleekit Doss that was ecstatic and transcendent while still being fun and silly. He tries to capture the magic of the party on this new EP and does so admirably. The 6 tracks on the EP feels clever but charming. It's a collision of hardcore flurries, warped synths and day-glo keys that is often chaotic but also comforting. Drum & bass, rave, future grime and more all colour its grooves, but the resulting sound is pretty much impossible to define (in a good way).

Review: New to Cosmic Bridge but not new to the experimental beat game; Edinburgh's Proc Fiskal has been tinkering and splicing on the likes of LVLZ and Hyperdub on more of a grime vibe. Here we find him on Om Unit's imprint raising his tempo to 160 and the results are stimulating; the futuristic jungle and flute spells of "Fragrance", the disjointed swampy halftime and Bollywood blues of "Hello Boss", the vague bounce and spacy subversions of "Who Can't Hear" and the more grime-aligned icy staccato of "Window Cat" all hit spots you didn't know existed. There's so much unchartered territory still to be explore in the 160 hinterland... This fertile fusion of ideas is proof.

Dirty Dubstep/Trap/Grime
  1. Proc Fiskal - "Come Here" (4:38)
  2. Charlux - "Riposte" (5:17)
  3. Nights - "Conflict" (4:42)
  4. Dr Hugo - "Warrior" (5:36)
  5. Polonis - "Slice Roll 3" (3:58)
  6. Sir Hiss - "Blood Diamond" (3:58)
Review: This debut release from the Dream Eater label is little less than a statement of intent. It features cuts from no less than six members of the extended crew crammed onto one action-packed 12". Proc Fiskal kicks things off with the thursting sub-bass, cut-up hip-hop yelps and full-throttle grime beats of "Come Here", before Charlux shows his melodious side on the jaunty goodness of "Riposte". There's some ghostly synths and aggressive grooves from Nights, a deep dive into sparse and heavy dubstep territory from Dr Hugo, and a touch of glacial, post-grime brilliance from Polonis. Best of all, though, is Sir Hiss's "Blood Diamond", which effortlessly underpins marimba style melodies with a punchy, post-dubstep beat.
