Palmenhouze EP
Cat: KBF 002. Rel: 26 Aug 20
  1. Nani Kore (5:13)
  2. Palmenhouze (6:09)
  3. Radio Exercise (5:59)
Review: Germany's Kopf Bei Fuss brings the brilliance once more after a fine first outing a year ago. This one licks off with the hugely likeable and high speed techno funk of "Nani Kore". It has a rubbery bassline that is busy and off balance, and scintillating hi hats and drum programming that are clean and serene. A wonky melody line and weird vocal stabs all add plenty of the sort of eccentricities that are all too often missing in modern techno. "Palmenhouze" is another characterful track, this time pairing ambient pads and keys with acid undulations and high speed, spaced out house beats. Completing a varied package are the loopy breaks and bendy sine waves of "Radio Exercise". A fine EP.

Off (12")
Cat: NOE 002. Rel: 05 Sep 19
  1. Philipp Boss - "Lava" (5:56)
  2. Griezman - "Decheterie" (8:27)
  3. Martyne - "Zoober" (6:26)
  4. Bodin - "A Walk In The Park" (6:15)
Review: Not On Earth's first release sold out in quick time - unsurprising given the reputation of Frankfurt based founders Bodin & Jacob. Their second is a various artists affair that shows off some of the talents they have unearthed, while Bodin also reappears with "A Walk In The Park." It's a brilliantly militant cut with clipped, marching beats and rasping bass squelches, and elsewhere Philipp Boss opens the EP with the slippery electro rhythms of "Lava". Griezman's "Decheterie" is an uptempo bit of proper first wave tech house a la Terry Francis. Closing out this more than handy EP is the hard edged electro-tech of "Zoober" from Martyne.

Figuration EP
  1. R&S - "Figuration" (11:43)
  2. B&S - "Another State Of Mind" (9:35)
  3. R&S - "Yellow Rug" (4:05)
Review: The latest missive on Rawax's Motor City Edition offshoot doesn't come from Detroit, but rather experienced German trio Patrick Raddatz, Robin Scholz and Philipp Boss. The latter joins forces with Scholz as B&S on the wonderfully meandering "Another State of Mind", a 10-minute exploration of deep electro bristling with fluid ambient synths, spacey electro melodies and languid lines. It's reminiscent of some of Convextion's more ambient-leaning escapades, which is rich praise. The other two tracks come from Raddatz and Scholz. They too, explore undulating, intelligent techno-era ambience on "Yellow Rug", but it's the epic acid/electro fusion of Drexciya style shuffler "Figuration" that stands out.
