  2. Paolo Rocco - "Ill" (7:58)
  3. Moises - "Easy Beauty" (6:33)
  4. Esposito & Nadje - "HBP" (7:46)
Review: Crew love is true love: Beste Freunde 05 is upon us and it's not likely to hang around. Once again it's a whole new collective of like-minded souls together for a fresh expedition. Anil Aras leads the mission with a rippling Detroitian understated number simply called "Track 1". He's flanked by Paolo Rocco and Moises. The former ups the temperature and gets us in a lather with the insistent pace of "Ill" while the latter sooths our souls and oils our joints with the slippery hypnosis session "Easy Beauty". Finally Esposito & Nadje run point with the heaviest tool of the trip - the bubbling technoid "HBP". Friends till the end!

Deep House
  1. True Lies (5:39)
  2. Circle Life (6:04)
  3. Pacific Surf (6:43)
  4. 1994 (5:40)
Review: For his third and final release of the year, Italian Canadian Paolo Rocco makes his debut on French imprint Rutilance with four ageless perceptions of rudimental deep house. "True Lies" slinks in the shadows with husky humanised tones in the same way an old Bret Johnson track would. "Circle Life" chugs more like a Phil Weekes track while "Pacific Surf" rolls with wavy pads that fluctuate gently in the way you might hear in a Doc Martin set. Finally we hit "1994" that struts with some great production touches with the drums right at the front and the pads deep in the background in a way that can't help conjure memories of MAW. Sublime.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Paolo Rocco & Lessi S - "2AM" (6:31)
  2. Paolo Rocco & Lessi S - "2AM" (East End dubs rework) (8:17)
  3. Havantepe - "Passing By" (6:47)
  4. Havantepe - "Passing By" (Roger Gerressen remix) (6:27)
Review: From Russia with rushes; Paolo Rocco recruits newblood Lessi S for a jam that chugs and shrouds with a vague sense of late night/early morning naughtiness. Simple, warm, dubby and jacking, it's the ideal choice for an equally chop-slapping East End Dubs remix. Turkish Havantepe takes over the B with an uptempo, driving piece of progressive tech. Lolloping with soft bass fluctuations and cosmic synths, it's a perfect transition from the light to dark sides of the night. Roger Gerresson takes the remix to a much lighter side with a subtle, restrained deep twist. Serene.

Rowle 001 (12")
Cat: RWL 001. Rel: 04 Dec 17
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Jack Wickham - "Aiol" (7:00)
  2. Paolo Rocco - "Vieux Velo" (6:11)
  3. VICARI - "Kah Styi" (6:20)
  4. Bobby O'Donnell - "Cipher" (7:31)
Review: Rowle inaugurate their imprint with an impressive selection of tough, tool-oriented tech house. Rising talent Jack Wickham from Leeds follows up a great release on Eastenderz earlier this year with the loopy and hypnotic groove of "Aiol" while Montreal success story Paolo Rocco follows up some great releases on Taverna Tracks and Hot Creations with the smooth and sexy boompty business of "Vieux Velo". On the flip, the quality keeps on coming in the form of the always impressive Tommy Vicari Jr - delivering some bold and downright sleek acid house style on "Kah Styi" while Bobby O'Donnell (One Records) closes this fine release out with the infectious and swingin' groove futurism of "Cipher" which will appeal to fans of iO (Mulen) or odD. This one is being supported by the likes of Raresh, Dan Andrei and Petre Inspirescu to name but a few: so don't sleep on this one. Tip!
