Beezeldub (12")
Cat: PMAWS 002. Rel: 20 Nov 14
Bass
  1. Beezeldub
  2. Newun
Review: t's been a rapid rise for Paleman, conquering Swamp 81 in a short space of time and getting snapped up for remixes by all manner of respected entities, and here Calum Lee kicks up the dust on 81 with the anthemic parp of "Beezeldub". With those plastic horn blasts calling out, any dance worth its salt is going to lose its proverbials, and that's before the stripped and weighty core of the track kicks in. It's a cut perfectly toned and buffed for maximum club response, and it sits in a neat contrast to the more esoteric fare of "Newun". Where the lead track demands attention from the off, this second jam snakes in with a tricky rhythm and plenty of oddball, dubby effects for a more subtle and largely percussive effect.

Searching (12")
Cat: ZEHNIN 05 . Rel: 13 Jun 18
Techno
  1. 2068 (5:18)
  2. Searching (5:01)
  3. The Peg Loosens (5:27)
  4. Slurp (4:11)
Review: Like Livity Sound boys Kowton and Peverlist, Paleman operates at the murky intersection of dark, otherworldly techno and next-level bass music. In the early days of career, his sound was more weighted towards the latter; in recent times, this has been reversed. That's certainly the case on this Zehnin outing, where the post-industrial late night creepiness of "Searching" is underpinned by a dense, rolling, tribal-influenced techno groove, and fellow A-side cut "2068" is as paranoid and clandestine as they come. Over on the B-side, first via the industrial-strength dancefloor hypnotism of "The Peg Loosens" and latterly by the looser and deeper "Slurp", Paleman continues to remind us that percussive intensity is his primary goal.
