Body Movement 002
Body Movement 002 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BMVMT 002. Rel: 13 Jul 20
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Robert James & Jack Michael - "B2A"
  2. Lvca & Sidd - "Chroma"
  3. Frazer Campbell - "One Armed Bandit"
  4. North Phase - "Zone 1"
Review: Robert James already made a splash with releases on Hot Creations and Viva Music before launching Body Movement last year. Now he's back on his own label with a various artists 12" that widens the scope of the project, leading in with a collaboration from the man himself and Jack Michael - the dynamic and twisting electro funk of "B2A". Lvca & Sidd take body-popping machine music in a more minimal direction with the sleek "Chroma", while Frazer Campbell kicks off the B side with the uptempo pulse of "One Armed Bandit". North Phase flips the script with some dynamic, electronica-infused garage styles on the system-ready "Zone 1".

Review: Back once again for the renegade master, BODY MVMT hits its stride with the L.E.S.S EP
from North Phase. Four releases deep, label head Rob James showcases the label's
breadth and depth; each release exploring the nuances of underground club music -
dance-floor energy expressed through a variety of styles. North Phase step up with three
original cuts, plus a rework from Maher Daniel, utilising the outlet's open format to delve into
a range of sounds.

Electronic Funk
Electronic Funk (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: PILOT 03.
  1. Electronic Funk (6:15)
  2. D1000 (5:02)
  3. Escape & Evasion (6:47)
  4. Halo (5:25)
Review: Pilot comes correct with a third new release in quick succession. We were big fans of the first two and this one is another muscular, action packed slab of wax from North Phase. Once again he draws on many different genres to cook up his floor filling beats. 'Electronic Funk' is a bit of a throw back to when the Plump DJs were good, while 'D1000' then gets more down and dirty on scuzzy bass and electro pops. 'Escape & Evasion' is the most heady of the lot with its sparse atmosphere and old school breaks and 'Halo' closes on a cosmic borne beat wig out.

VA (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: PILOT 02. Rel: 13 Sep 21
  1. North Phase - "Feel It" (6:40)
  2. North Phase - "Escape From Planet X" (5:34)
  3. Kolter - "B2R" (5:37)
  4. Kolter - "Systematic" (4:32)
Review: Earlier in the year, we heaped tons of praise on the booming, breakbeat-driven first EP from Pilot, which showcased a quartet of killer cuts from Johannes Kolter. He returns to action on this EP, taking control of the B-side to offer-up the funky, sample-heavy electro/breaks fusion of 'B2R' (think Layo & Bushwacka's classic material and you're close) and the more spacey, electro-focused bubbliness of 'Systematic'. While they're both very good, we'd argue that North Phase's A-side tracks are even better. Choose between the dubby and hypnotic breakbeat-house roll of 'Feel It', and 'Escape From Planet X', a deeper, more bass-heavy chunk of breakbeat pleasure that comes complete with fizzing electronic noises, deep bass and some suitably trippy synth sounds.
