ASOK - "The Future" (7:22)
ASOK - "Perspective" (6:32)
Neville Watson - "Idolatrous" (6:11)
Neville Watson - "Big Unit" (6:00)
Review: Scenery White is as you'd expect, a white label offshoot of Stuart 'ASOK' Robinson's Scenery label, a Liverpool operation that has really developed over the past 12 months thanks to material from Mark Forshaw, Versalife, and John Heckle. Robinson himself features on this debut 12", going toe to toe with UK legend Neville Watson. Two sides, two tracks each: ASOK calls shotgun and delivers the grainy house textures of "The Future", and the driving, deep space squelches of "Perspective". Watson marks the B-side with "Idolatrous", a percussion-heavy bit of tribalism, followed by the dense and meaty arrangement of "Big Unit".

The Long Wait
Review: Releases such as this render the necessity for additional hyperbole useless, as the simple facts involved ensure it will fly off the shelves. KiNK & Neville Watson return after a two year hiatus with their third release for the Rush Hour offshoot Hour House Is Your Rush with two raw visceral cuts that typify their signature Chicago meets Detroit sound. "Metropole" is immediately gratifying, an energising flux of vintage Detroit chords rising and falling in unison with the thumping and obligingly loud kick drum. It's pure peak time sleaze complemented by the analgesic hypnosis that washes over your senses when the flipside track "The Long Wait" unfurls in all its glory. A much rawer beat is doused in increasingly psychedelic circles of concentric melodies that twist with lysergic energy whilst the most devilish of acid basslines throbs beneath. The arsenal of superlatives to describe Rush Hour is rapidly depleting.

A Saturday In November (dub mix)
Review: A masterful return to the Hour House Is Your Rush imprint for Messrs Watson and KiNK, their fourth to date and this time featuring the excellent vocal talents of Hercules Love & Affair's bundle of energy Kim Ann Foxman. Naturally with the addition of vocals, "A Saturday In November" is a less heavyweight assault on your senses than previous releases on the label from this duo, though all of their signature studio flourishes such as raw basslines, emotive chord washes and slick drum programming remain. The accompanying dub version burns hard and will find favour amongst the more discerning dancefloors!

Kink & Neville Watson - "City 2 City"
Snuff Crew - "Wonder Sometimes"
Snuff Crew - "Are You House?" (Neville Watson remix)
Review: **Essential repress of Snuff Trax's second release on sapphire blue vinyl!** Following KinK and Neville Watson's remix of Snuff Crew's Hour House Is Your Rush release, the two pairings meet again on this split release for the second release on the Crew's Snuff Trax imprint. KiNK and Neville Watson occupy the A-side with "City 2 City", a raw homage to classic Chicago jack combining thickly sprung analogue bass, rave whistles and quavering pads. On the flip, Snuff Crew present "Wonder Sometimes", a smooth accompaniment to the A-side, as delayed piano chords bounce between a simple arrangement of 909 claps and hi-hats while a tumbling bassline rolls underneath, while Neville Watson's remix of Snuff Crew's "Are You House" rounds out the package, inverting the weirdo house original with all manner of reverse sound effects and vocal trickery.

How It Is Final
The Spirit
Review: Love's Fading is a killer debut emission from Red7, the newly established studio pairing of Clone and Rush Hour regular Neville Watson and Mock & Toofer Nick Woolfson. On paper this pairing is dynamite given their respective discographies (Woolfson has a production armoury that stretches back much further than Mock & Toof) and the four tracks here realise that potential with aplomb. The title track presents a nice contrast between the tough, itchy feeling you get from the drums and thick bass and the warm sumptuous textures that float around this rhythmic element. "Offset Dub" and "How It Is Final" are more playful in tone, both utilising swinging drum patterns and short melodic bursts, while "The Spirit" perhaps encapsulates what you'd imagine from a Watson and Woolfson production; potent jacking rhythms from Neville combine sublimely with the kind of melodic idiosyncrasies Woolfson brings to the table in Mock & Toof.

Friends That We Met Amongst The Stars (6:10)
Smacked Out On Smudge (5:44)
Review: British retrovert, analogue gear freak and frequent KiNK collaborator Neville Watson is back, this time on Craig Richards' always surprising The Nothing Special. First track "The Watcher" sounds like early Kevin Saunderson with its massive hoover bass and tough beat backed by a huge vocal refrain; this track will tear the roof off! Next up is the Robert Hood style cyclical jam "Friends We Met Among The Stars" its hypnotic groove is as driving as it is infectious and the real highlight on here. Finally on the flip we have "Smacked Out On Smudge" a deep dirty acid jam with an absolute killer of a bassline that modulates and resonates all over the shop with a druggy, delay drenched monologue for added headrush potential.

The Raw Fruit
Heartstring
Review: In the same week that Dominick Martin graces The Nothing Special with some fine Calibre produce, Craig Richards label demonstrate the diversity of their approach with a record from Mr Neville Watson. If you have invested any time with house music over the past few years, there should be little in the way of encouragement needed to spend some time with this Red Light Fever 12", which displays the depth of Watson's production palette across three certified jams. The title track is doused in hardware quirkiness, operating with a feel and tempo that will suit warm up sets, especially with the laser precision expansive synth lines. "The Raw Fruit" continues in the same techno focused direction Watson explored on last year's DBA Special Editions release, whilst the emotionally loaded "Heartstring" is a perfect example of the adage "saving the best til last"

Crossing The I's
Wired
Hot & Heavy
Review: Don't Be Afraid round out what's been a landmark year for the label with the first of three excellent releases and a full debut for the legend that is Neville Watson! The UK house veteran has previously featured on DBA, providing a remix of "Lotus Eaters" by Semtek on the labels third release back in 2010 but here he adds a further element of heritage to the fledgling DBA Special Editions that launched with Disco Nihilist earlier this year. The Hot & Heavy EP is very much in line with the floor focused remit of the label, with A Side hogger "Crossing The I's" the sort of loose, gleeful slab of acid techno you'd find Funkineven banging out. Turn it over and "Wired" hits you deep with it's gnarly sub bass weight whilst the title track offers a lighter, insouciant saunter through groove heavy house.

Songs To Elevate Pure Hearts (KiNK remix)
Against The Tide (Marquis Hawkes remix)
Son Of House (Moon B Houze Mutha remix)
Review: With Creme Organization the label responsible for finally it coaxing a debut album out of UK house veteran Neville Watson, it seems fair for the Dutch label to open up tracks from the excellent Songs To Elevate The Heart for reinterpretation. Commissioning remixes from KiNK & Rachel, Moon B and Marquis Hawkes demonstrates the level of quality you'd expect from DJ TLR's unrelenting label too. Watson's old Bulgarian mucker KiNK is first up with a wonderfully uplifting house refix of the title track alongside his more recent production partner Rachel that hogs the A Side. Down below DABJ's secret weapon Marquis Hawkes adds some detuned acid and pounding metallic kicks to "Against The Tide" whilst Atlanta's Moon B drops a fuzzy edged, self styled Houz Mutha take on "Son Of House" that might just be our favourite.

One Four Green (original mix)
One Four Green (Deep Space Orchestra remix)
One Four Green (Perseus Traxx remix)
Review: Sometime KiNK collaborator and supreme drum machine manipulator Neville Watson precedes a new LP for Creme with this excellent release for the Teng imprint. The One Four Green EP surrounds the one original cut from Watson with some well chosen remixes by Perseus Traxx and Deep Space Orchestra. Watson's original comfortably saunters through the tracks arrangement like a speeding buggy cruising down a freeway of snappy claps and marching snares, while DSO filters out Watson's intended bassline, compensating his remix with an ensemble of synths and varied drum patterns instead. Perseus Traxx pushes down deeper, dragging out a continued and fluctuating lead that traverses back behind the tracks bass, before making itself know once more to a flurry of percussion.
