Cat: AFFIN 027LTD. Rel: 04 Nov 15
  1. Claudio PRC - "Limnic" (7:11)
  2. Ness - "Vardar" (5:53)
  3. Reggy Van Oers - "Frenetic" (6:37)
  4. Deepbass - "The Light That Never Was" (6:08)
Review: Joachim Spieth's Affin imprint starts a new series titled Affinity and this inaugurates the new project in spectacular fashion. This new venture will likely delve into hypnotic techno territory and we like where it's leading! It's Sardinia's Claudio PRC up first who gives us "Limnic", a slow burning and sinister epic with some seriously evil sound design and droning bass drawing you into the void. Fellow Sardinian and Prologue label mate Ness is up next with "Vardar" a stomping and tunnelling techno affair with layer upon layer of immersive pads and paranoid atmospherics. On the flip is Dutchman Reggy Van Oers, with the rather Dettmann sounding "Frenetic" and finally sometime Ness collaborator, Glasgow's Deepbass gets onboard with the hypnotic and futuristic stomper "The Light That Never Was".

  1. Donato Dozzy & Mike Parker - "Patagotitan" (6:02)
  2. Abstract Division - "Dissonance" (6:18)
  3. Deepbass & Ness - "Les Planes" (6:30)
  4. Ben Buitendijk - "Vortex" (6:03)
Review: More dark, throbbing and unearthly antics from the Dynamic Reflection camp as they offer up a third collection of cuts from their expansive "Continuum" box set. Donato Dozzy and Mike Parker clearly got the memo, because their forthright opener "Patagotitan" is an alien club-jacker rich in razor-sharp, mind-altering electronics and hustling drum machine percussion. Abstract Division's "Dissonance" sounds like a dystopian, acid-fired tribute to Orbital's "Chime", while Deepbass and Ness' superb "Les Planes" is deep, atmospheric techno straight from the top drawer. As if that wasn't enough to get the juices flowing, Ben Buitendijk's "Vortex" is a perfectly pitched chunk of horror-techno hypnotism.

Erosion EP (12")
Cat: PRRUKBLK 005. Rel: 16 Jun 15
  1. Eon (10:10)
  2. Resin (7:30)
  3. Ergo (4:24)
Review: Glenn Wilson's Planet Rhythm has been a purveyor of dark, cerebral techno music since 1994 and the label has featured a plethora of artists from all corners of the dance sphere. This time around its two artists from Italy who make an appearance, Rome's Giorgio Gigli and Cagliari's Ness, and drop three ultra-slick cuts. "Eon" is as electric and molecular as it suggests, and "Resin" pounds its way with more malice across the room, whereas "Ergo" is broken, stumbling and heavily atmospheric...perhaps the defining moment of this solid EP.

  1. Ness - "Psychotechnologies" (Alan Backdrop remix) (8:07)
  2. Claudio PRC - "Night Shift" (Luigi Tozzi remix) (7:16)
Review: The latest missive from Italy's The Gods Planet crew offers brand new takes on catalogue cuts from Ness and Claudio PRC. Alan Backdrop is the selected remixer on side A, serving up a restless and spooky take on "Psychotechnologies", which originally featured on Ness's 2017 album Trancemigration. Backdrop's brilliant version is built around a druggy, arpeggio style bassline, cymbal-heavy percussion and all manner of gently pulsating dark room chords and aural textures. On the flip, Luigi Tozzi gets busy with Claudio PRC's recent "Night Shift", adding a little more energy and some seriously mind-altering electronics to an otherwise deep and trippy techno workout.
