Kerberos Rremixes (limited transparent red vinyl 12")
Cat: SYST 01206. Rel: 04 Sep 18
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Kerberos Revisited (Solomun & Johannes Brecht remix) (8:33)
  2. Kerberos (Andre Hommen remix) (6:40)
  3. Kerberos (Matador remix) (8:06)
Review: In recent times, demand has soared for second-hand copies of Stefan Bodzin and Marc Romboy's 2014 cut "Kerberos". Wisely, Systematic has decided to reissue it, backing the original version - a quietly positive chunk of melodious tech-house bristling with memorable, rising and falling electronic motifs - with a trio of fresh reworks. The first of these comes from Solomun and Johannes Brecht, whose interpretation tends towards the grandiose, elevating the original to a higher level via bolder electronics and stronger Berlinian beats. In contrast, Andre Hommen harnesses the track's innate positivity, inserting a blissful, saucer-eyed breakdown that should get the hairs on the back of your neck standing to attention. Finally, Matador delivers a smooth, shuffling and bass-heavy revision that's closest in tone to Bodzin and Romboy's original.

  1. Marc Romboy - "Asteroids" (10:06)
  2. Rober Babicz - "Space Disco" (6:25)
  3. Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry - "Close Your Eyes" (feat JJD) (7:48)
Review: Earlier in the year, Bedrock chief John Digweed headed to Tokyo for a set at Contact - one of the best underground clubs in the world. The basement club has a low ceiling, minimal lighting and an incredible sound system. The set (which featured a whopping 64 tracks) captures the legend's set from start to finish: from the deep/moody opening tracks, to the peak time bangers and everything in between. The tenth edition in his 'Live In' series is released on a limited vinyl run, with a select number of tracks on wax. Disc Two here features the hyper-melodic drift of Systematic's Marc Romboy on "Asteroids", the veteran artist formerly known as Rob Acid (Robert Babicz) with some powerful futurist soul on "Space Disco" and Luke Brancaccio & Simon Berry with some tripped-out tunnel vision on "Close Your Eyes" (feat JJD).

  1. Garden Of Cyrus (8:17)
  2. Caper Tran (8:40)
Review: Given that Music Man regular Petar Dundov and Systematic boss Marc Romboy are both hugely successful producers in their own right, you'd expect this first collaborative release to be rather good. It is, of course, with pleasingly melodic A-side "Garden of Cyrus" leading the way. While the track's muted (but heavy) drums and squeezable acidic bassline provide the energy, it's the duo's layered electronic melody lines that really catch the ear. If you're in the mood for something darker and more suitable for pitch-black Berlin basements, creepy and hypnotic flipside "Caper Tran" should more than fit the bill.

Review: We've come accustomed to Marc Romboy delivering fine, full-length excursions that join the dots between techno and house. Voyage De La Planete, though, is something totally different: an intergalactic exploration of ambient, electronica, and seductive downtempo compositions. It's a blueprint that guarantees hazy, head-in-the-clouds thrills, from the Nils Frahm style piano motifs of "La Lune Et La Etoile" and dark, clandestine throb of the Black Merlin-esque "Phenix", to the Namlook style bliss of string-drenched closer "Nocturne" - with its gently undulating beats and sweeping orchestration - and picturesque, break-of-dawn sumptuousness of "Atom De Danse". We're not quite sure why Romboy has decided to go in this direction, but we have no complaints: fundamentally, Voyage De La Planet is a superb set.

  4. La Mer III Dialiogue Du Vent Et De La Mer-Anime Et Tumultueux (17:02)
Review: One of the most popular and forward thinking composers associated with impressionist music, Claude Debussy's innovative composition style inspired countless artists from the likes of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock. Through parallel chords and bitonality, in addition to the use of whole-tone and pentatonic scales: there were no limits or boundaries. The French composer very much challenged the traditional status quo in harmonic sounding scale tone music of the time. After studying countless composers of the last century, Systematic Recordings boss Marc Romboy took up the challenge to edit, remix and reconstruct several works of his favourite composer. Here he performs electronics together with the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Ingo-Martin Stadtmuller), with Dusseldorf based concert master Miki Kekenj and sound programmer Ali Khalaj. The recordings took place on December 12th 2016.
