Review: While initially formed in Buffalo, New York in 1987, before setting up base in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, second wave death metal scene genre definers Malevolent Creation along with their peers in Cannibal Corpse are largely responsible for the brutal surge of extreme metal throughout the 90s. Expanding on the work of groups such as Death and Obituary, their venomous and pummeling compositions became a roadmap for a myriad of bands who would follow in their path. Warkult marked the group's ninth overall full-length but only the second of two projects following 2002's The Will To Kill to feature vocalist Kyle Symons, whose short-lived tenure served as a refreshing new lease on viciousness before Bret Hoffmann would make his glorious return on 2007's Doomsday X.

Expanding on the work of groups such as Death, Onslaught, and Obituary, as well as formulating their vision in tandem with the genre's most successful act, Cannibal Corpse; their name still continues to garner reverence within many pockets of the scene, while 2007's blisteringly heavy tenth LP Doomsday X is one of the finest examples of their latter day output. Noted for being one of the band's final projects with original vocalist Bret Hoffmann before his untimely passing in 2018, and featuring Mick Thomson of Slipknot on the standout mammoth cut 'Deliver My Enemy', this is retrofitted brutal death metal from the Florida edge, undiluted by age or time.
