Home (Tom Sharkett edit)
Home (Tom Sharkett edit (Instrumental))
Review: Tom Sharkett of the British indie band WH Lung puts his own spin on LCD Soundsystem's 'Home,' a standout from their 2010 album This Is Happening. Driven by an agog admiration for the original, Sharkett's rather subtle edit first surfaced quietly online (but also not so, attracting the kind of unofficial, hand-changing longevity many producers dream of). The rework gained its most traction when Flo Dill, NTS Radio's Breakfast Show DJ, played it twice in one set; the buzz reached LCD themselves, who took a liking to Sharkett's reinterpretation, so much that they strove and ultimately green-lit its official release. With a well surveyed reverb room, housing a pots-and-pans percussion set and whirling background whoops, the remix is bedded throughout by a pitch lilting wash, perfect for the zoning out.

X-Ray Eyes (extended Trash Can dub) (9:50)
Review: The latest awakening from DFA Records hears James Murphy and company lift but a single little finger, precipitating an avalanche of anticipation, as this is their first material in three years. First premiering on NTS to clamorous acclaim, the band's first release since 2022 comes with minimal promo text, and packs bubbling synths with grinding drums, creating a familiar yet refined sound. Echoing the band's early style, it now comes on an exclusive 12" inverted by the 'Extended Trash Can Dub', which brings found, street-larked spring-sound, and vision-questing whispers, to a stomping indie romp, a potentiality promised but not entirely delivered by the original track.

Review: Surely your first thoughts seeing this album drop are what a shame it is that LCD Soundsystem no longer crank out the tunes. Happily, we shall always have their fine body of work to revert to in times of need and few albums could quench your thirst for punk-funk-infused indie-disco bangers than this live effort from 2010's Berlin Festival. It has a number of the cult US band's classics included such as a fine rendition of 'Daft Punk Is Playing In My House', the seminal 'Get Innocuous!' and one of our favourites, 'All My Friends'. A wonderful way to revisit the glory years of one of the best bands of the last 20 years.

Oh Baby (Lovefingers remix) (8:13)
Oh Baby (Lovefingers dub) (7:48)
Review: A year or so on from the release of American Dream, LCD Soundsystem's much-hyped comeback album, James Murphy has decided to commission a swathe of fresh remixes. The first mixes to land come from ESP Institute boss and former NYC dweller Lovefingers. He brilliantly plays around with "Oh Baby", first serving up a full vocal version drenched in dub delay and mind-altering effects that makes much of selected lyrical phrases, chugging drums, bubbly electronic motifs and the original's familiar piano refrain. Turn to the flip for a largely vocal-free dub that's even more trippy and far-out in tone, with the now familiar piano riff taking pride of place throughout.

Review: Six years ago, an iconic and emotional concert at Madison Square Gardens marked the end of LCD Soundsystem. The accompanying documentary 'Shut Up and Play The Hits' delved into frontman James Murphy's reasons for the decision, with self-examination, a need for change and a fear of old age playing a part. Fast forward to 2017, and the surprise release of three singles accompanying the announcement of a comeback album triggers anticipation and a sigh of relief from fans everywhere. 'American Dream' meets expectations and at times surpasses them, with the familiar driving disco rhythms, strutting funk basslines and heartfelt morning-after-the-night-before ballads feeling like a well-needed catch up with an old friend. The current musical, social and political climates provide Murphy with platforms for his self-effacing and acerbic witticisms. This strong return to form was needed now perhaps more than ever, but simultaneously feels like they never left in the first place.
