Deep House
  1. Laurence Guy - "Strings Attached" (6:10)
  2. Junktion - "Breakfast At Midnight" (Brame & Hamo remix) (5:19)
  3. Junktion - "Breakfast At Midnight" (5:19)
  4. Daniel Leseman - "On My Mind" (6:15)
Review: Hans Peeman (Junktion) and Daniel Leseman's Outplay is strictly committed to spreading the gospel of deep house music and this sermon comes courtesy of the aforementioned, with a bit of help from Laurence Guy. He appears first with the title track, which samples a pretty breathtaking strings section mixed with a spangling Derrick May style synth melody which fades out and gives way to a pretty wicked arpeggio... and some cowbells; sold already? Next up is Junktion with "Breakfast At Midnight" an offering of deep and dusty late night disco that certainly takes its cues from KDJ, but that's totally fine by us. The Brame & Hamo remix is more dancefloor friendly, slo-mo deep house that fans of Genius of Time or MCDE will appreciate. Finally Leseman's "On My Mind" offers us another deep and dusty house gem that revels in its beautifully sombre Motor City vibes. Not bad for a guy from Utrecht!

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Running From Whatever (5:38)
  2. Pale Blue Dot (6:09)
Review: There's been a fair bit of hype surrounding this latest release from Fouk man Johannes Peeman's Junktion project. Listen to the clips, and you'll soon realize why. Ostensibly a re-edit with some additional beef to the groove, "Running From Whatever" offers the perfect balance between the warm, jazzy looseness of laidback disco-funk, and the woozy lusciousness of contemporary deep house. In other words, it will fit into either house or disco sets. Similar accolades could be bestowed upon B-side "Pale Blue Dot", which moves further towards traditional deep house territory, while including some seriously cosmic synthesizer builds and all manner of neat musical touches.

Monologue EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: STOWN 008.
Deep House
  1. Prologue (5:49)
  2. Monologue (5:50)
  3. Epilogue (6:51)
  4. Monologue (Mr Ks remix) (6:34)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Slow Town Records has really picked up the pace this year, delivering essential 12" singles from Riccio and QX-I, amongst others. Here, they round of 2014 with an EP of positively edible deep house from Fouk man Hans Peeman. In typical Peeman fashion, there's plenty of soul to the liquid beats and rich chords of "Prologue", while "Monologue" is an attractive saunter through classic Detroit deep house with the restless energy of a Chicago production. MR K-S remixes the title track, delivering a heavily percussive version that sounds like a plea to head towards the dancefloor, pronto. A touch darker and altogether heavier, it offers an excellent alternative to Peeman's eyes-wide-shut original.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. The Great Unknown (6:18)
  2. Solitude (6:13)
  3. Watching You Sleep (6:11)
Review: After impressing with their baggy, floor-friendly and often pitched-down blends of deep house and disco, Sleazy Beats Recordings called it a day in 2012, opening the Sleazy Beats Black Ops imprint in its place. Here, they continue to push forward their head-nodding, toe-tapping sound via an EP from Outplay label owner Junktion. It's a big of a killer, too, with the Dutch producer delivering a trio of tasty cuts built around hand-picked disco samples, rolling grooves, and just the right amount of warm, soul-flecked deep house elements. Our pick is probably "The Great Unknown" - it boasts the strongest, richest disco loops of the three, and some killer chords - though the breezy "Watching You Sleep" isn't far behind.

Wide Awake EP (12") (1 per customer)
Cat: OUPLW 005. Rel: 17 May 16
Deep House
  1. Wide Awake (6:33)
  2. What We Are (6:15)
  3. Sunny Side Up (6:36)
  4. Don't Mess Up (6:13)
Review: Junktion is Hans Peeman from Nijmegen, Netherlands, co-founder/A&R at Outplay. The deeper side of house and everything that goes with it is his thing and The Wide Awake EP is good evidence of this. There's a real Thomas Bangalter style vibe to this EP, as evidenced on the low-slung disco loop goodness of the title track and "What We Are" following in suit, with more wicked sample cut ups rocking the night away on this funky groove. On the flip we've got "Don't Mess Up" which is perfect for those Summer open-air parties with its dusty arrangement and hands in the air vibe; the real highlight on here.

  1. What I Mean (5:50)
  2. Fudge (5:45)
  3. Baby I Need (6:40)
  4. Baby I Need (Times Are Ruff remix) (7:44)
Review: Outplay co-founder and sometime Fouk man Hans Peeman dons the now familiar Junktion pseudonym for the first time in 2017. The experienced Dutch producer immediately hits his stride with the swinging goodness of "What I Mean", where disco guitar samples and rich electric piano flourishes cluster around a rubbery bass guitar line and bumping beats. The sample-heavy, disco/deep house fusion continues on "Fudge", while "Baby I Need" is a languid deep house roller smothered in cosmic chords, jammed-out riffs and all manner of dusty, soul-fired samples. For those searching for something a touch tougher, the impressive Times Are Tuff remix of the same track should do the trick.

Make Believe Disco No 2 (12") (1 per customer)

Deep House
  1. In Blue Forests (5:59)
  2. Friends & Strangers (5:56)
  3. That's What's Coming (5:31)
Review: Hans "Junktion" Peeman made a successful start to 2017 via a fine EP of dusty disco/deep house fusion cuts on Times are Ruff. Here he pops up on Make Believe, impressing from the word go via delicious A-side workout "In Blue Forests". Driven forward by a rubbery, low-slung boogie bass and cowbell-laden beats, the track effortlessly joins the dots between dreamy deep house, tropical disco and Brazilian jazz-funk. On the flip you'll find the P-funk flavoured, hazy house warmth of "That's What's Coming" and the driving goodness of solo-laden deep house disco roller "Friends & Strangers", which also boasts a superbly tactile, stretched-out breakdown.

Hot & Bothered EP (transparent green vinyl 12")

  1. Hot & Bothered (6:45)
  2. I'm Wishin' (5:30)
  3. Fling Cleaning (6:11)
  4. Visions Of You (3:08)
Review: Brooklyn's Razor-N-Tape reach out to the Lowlands and coax Hans Peeman into donning his Junktion alias for a new four-track 12" on their Razor-N-Tape Reserve label. Living up to it's dignified and reserved billing, this fifth release on the offshoot finds the Nijmegen-based Peeman laying down some luscious, colourful disco vibes that will brighten up any sun laden afternoon on the terrace. Title track "Hot & Bothered" sets the tone with a summery vibe underpinned by some bumping drums, whilst "I'm wishin'" glides with a subtle house bump and some wonderful vocal touches. "Fling Cleaning" sees Peeman veer off into disco chug territory, whilst "Visions of You" ends the 12" on a soulful note.

  2. Homeward (4:45)
  3. Afterburner (4:57)
  4. In Orbit (5:43)
  5. The Holtzman Effect (5:38)
Review: Hans Peeman seems to be using the alternative New Franklin Theory alias to deliver music that combines dusty, dreamy deep house tropes with tons of original boogie and electrofunk instrumentation. As this second New Franklin Theory 12" proves, it's a winning formula. The majority of the five tracks are propelled forwards by deep house beats and squelchy synth basslines, with Peeman altering the levels of disco and boogie instrumentation atop. For starters, check the bustling beats, rubbery synth-bass, jazz-funk flourishes and incessant energy of "Afterburner", the wonderfully deep and dusty shuffle of "In Orbit", and the pleasingly loose, tropical-tinged beats, spine-tingling deep house chords and loved-up vocal samples of killer EP closer "The Holtzman Effect".

  3. Martin Hayes - "Eternia" (5:32)
  4. Vinyladdicted - "Felt So Good" (6:28)
Review: Having previously established the Diggin Disco Deep formula - think sumptuous, sun-kissed deep house revisions of old disco and Balearic cuts - with a trio of 12" singles, the crew gathers for a fourth vinyl missive. Junktion gets the party started, layering eyes-closed electric piano lines and glistening guitars atop a suitably hazy deep house groove, before Funkyjaws moves further towards filter disco-house territory on the jazz guitar-clad shuffler "World Spin". On the reverse, you'll find some bumpin', locked-in loop funk from Martin Hayes (the DJ tool style "Eternia"), and the swinging, Balearic trance influenced positivity of Vinyladdicted's "Felt So Good".
