Movimento (limited hand numbered 12")

Deep House
  1. Movimento (Conscio mix)
  2. Movimento (Inconscio mix)
Review: Battista, John Swing and EMG's first hook-up under the SPS moniker - the thrillingly hard-to-pigeonhole Sintomi Di Gravita 12" - was arguably one of 2014's most slept-on records. Here they join forces for round two, delivering another two tracks that neatly sidestep the accepted norms of house and techno. A-side "Movimento (Consico Mix)" is a wonky chunk of well-swung, jazz-flecked deep house, smothered in filters and tipsy chords. Flip for the Inconsico Mix of the same track, a brilliantly far-out fusion of odd electronics, glitchy rhythms, shimmering synths and bubbling found sounds. It's hardly dancefloor-centric, but it's certainly really, really good.

Review: There are few artists laying down some true house vibes these days. Those that do are prone to following passing trends, while everybody else mashes other genres into the mix. John Swing is one such producer who has always kept it real, since day one of his excellent Relative label. Together with like-minded house and techno purist, EMG, the dup have built a sublime label from the ground up, and we await each one of their new releases with excitement and intrigue. Swing appears solo this time, along with four magnificent house warmers that showcase his trademark sound, and that sound as if they couldn't possibly have been made by anyone else. Take your pick from these four tunes, as each one is better than the last; but, most importantly, don't come complaining to us when you can't find decent house music out there, because this is it. Highly recommended.

Review: Unlike the endless stream of house and techno produces who go down the inevitable path of writing an album for the sake of it, John Swing feels exactly like the sort of artist who has a story to tell across 3 slabs of wax. Moreover, the sublime Livejam imprint, with its shady, unpredictable releasing schedule, is perfectly positioned to accommodate the more exploratory shades of dance music. It's no coincidence that John Swing has decided to dedicate single sides across most of these tracks, because that's exactly the sort of care and attention that merits this myriad of dance-leaning instrumentals. From subtle acid grooves, to broken house patters, and deep, beat-heavy tribal arrangements, this is surely the best 'house' LP that has graced our charts in a long time. Don't let it slip away, though, and be sure to embrace both an artist and a label who have preferred to do things below-radar. It's the way things should always be done.
