Review: One for the heads here on Body and Deep outta Holland. First out of the blocks is Atlanta house mainstay and a master of smooth and seductive sounds - as well as being the NDATL label boss - Kai Alce. His 'Dreamin' is a timeless classic with cuddly organ chords neatly draped over shuffling drums while a distant male vocals brings the subtle soul. UK vet Alex Arnout then dips down into pad laced after hours territory and Alfonzo Bottone layers up sunny synths, broken beat drum work and jazzy chords on 'Mindfully'. Javonntte's 'Too High' is a typically classy vocal house groove with some fine samples making it sure to pop right off in the club.

Review: People Of Earth strides into the New Year with a new project called The Elements Series. Part one welcomes some serious names, not least Detroit's ambient and techno master John Beltran who kicks off with 'Nuyorico' a joyous, chord-laced house groove laden with organic percussion. Javonntte's 'Tropical Feelings' is another of his textbook deep house cuts with whispered vocals bringing a spiritual vibe. Atlanta's main man Kai Alce does his do with the jazzy synth energy of shuffling house cut 'Benefit' (NDATL instrumental mix) then Byron The Aquarius pairs things back to dusty drums and humid chords on 'Sun Gods'. This one is only for the real heads.

Review: Spanish label MATE host a four track, two artist 12" that stretches across the Atlantic to take in top house music talents from both sides. The Belgian duo Chasse follow their releases on Robsoul and Exploited take on the A-side, with 'Viola' proving a chunky but emotive offering held together by rhythmic sax stabs and suspended strings and 'Deep Link' a jazzier affair, the sax let properly loose as a plaintive piano loops atmospherically. The prolific Detroit producer Javonntte, a regular on the label, offers up the fantastic Moog improv wigout of 'Sunday Brunch Cocktail', registering some impressively original high frequency operations. 'When Music Feels' boasts a spoken word vocal from Javonntte's own sister and a more classic deep house sound with an uplifting, spiritual vibe. Maximum value for money via four very playable tunes.

Review: On paper, this looks like a match made in heaven. On one side of the studio, experienced Italian deep house don Deep88; on the other, soul-loving Detroit house sort Javonnte. In its original form, "Fly Away" offers a superb hybrid of both producers' styles, with Javonnte's impassioned vocal and rolling beats working well with Deep88's Larry Heard style chords and bassline. Deep88 gets a chance to explore this avenue further on his dreamy and on-point Adriatic Mix, while Javonnte weighs in with a slightly chunkier Dub. Arguably best of all, though, is the seductive jazziness and soul-flecked deep house positivity of Melchior Sultana's impeccable rework.

Review: Javonnte can do no wrong right now, so you'll be unsurprised to learn that the long-serving American deep house producer's latest collaboration with DJ Soch (their first landed in 2018) is another must-have slab of sublime soulfulness. In its' original form (track four), the cut is a spaced-out chunk of semi-acoustic lo-fi soul. This sensuous, undeniably downtempo version comes accompanied by a trio of floor-ready takes. Soch's 'Main Mix' is a sumptuous slab of chunky and spacey deep house soul, Javontte's 'Swing Mix' is a bumpin' chunk of New Jersey garage, and the 'Italian Stallion Mix' drags the track further towards Larry Heard-meets-Italian dream house territory.

Review: As if it wasn't enough for them to secure the services of French artist Evenn for the 'One For Love EP', the Selections label has done the double on its ninth release and enlisted none other than Detroit's Javonntte to remix the title track. The original is almost the definition of deep house - gorgeous strings and pads you could almost drown in, a female vocal eased on by an uplifting piano and silky beats reclining at a moderate but insistent pace. Javonntte's mix keeps the vocals intact but chops and changes a little more beatswise and has its head somewhere a little spacier, both in terms of its Mayday-esque bass end bleeps and celestial pads. Kicking off the B-side, 'Inspiration' is more of a hypnotic, looped up affair, as is the speedier and heavier close to proceedings 'Round N Round', making good use of the filter functions and disco vibes from the past.

Review: DJ, crate digger and Blend-It Records boss Patrick Gibin is arguably better known for his work as Twice, particularly a string of strong collaborations with the likes of Kaidi Tatham and Clara Hill. Here he resurfaces on Eglo with two tracks made in cahoots with MdCL (AKA Kiwi keys-man Mark De Clive-Lowe) and sultry deep house specialist Javonntte. "Cloud Nine", in particular, is superb: an effortlessly soulful rush of deep house bliss whose fizzing jazz-funk synth solos and rich chord progressions reminded us of classic Phil Asher productions during the original broken beat era in the early 2000s. Speaking of broken beat, there's a genuinely jazzier shuffle to flipside "I Like To Show You", which also boasts oodles of killer boogie and P-funk style synths courtesy of the fast-fingered De Clive-Lowe.

Review: Underrated US house artist Javonnette has been on a superb run recently, always turning out emotive house music with classically inclined vibes but plenty of fresh ideas. He does it on a wide array of labels and next up is Rawax's Motor City Edition sub-label. His Dirty Digital Experience EP kicks off with the creepy 'Alone With You' with then 'Deep Into You' brings more eerie synth work over heft, chunky drums. 'Every Body's A Star' layers up gorgeously smeared synths and drifting vocals samples and 'Neptunelove' closes out with big, bright melodies that light up the Motor City grooves.

Here, the American pioneer of deep house lands on Last Forever with three more fresh cuts that are packed with equal amounts of heat and heart. He's an artist who cut his teeth playing on tour with Aretha Franklin so is the real deal. Jazz, house, broken beat, Latin rhythms and plenty more all feature in his work. He's been doing his do since the 90s, having first started playing piano aged just 15 and later touring with Aretha Franklin. That means his music always comes with proper chords and rich melodies as well as timeless house beats that are as interesting as they are irresistible. 'Get Down' here is a real cracker with funky bass riffs and chunky kicks next to soulful vocal swirls, while 'Outerbound' is pure jazz-funk goodness with noodling keys and chords and a beatdown groove to die for.

Review: There has certainly been a revived interest in the work of underrated Detroit veteran Brian Garrett's work, with unreleased gems from his archive and new material alike making big impression on a new generation of dancers. His latest one comes courtesy of We Will Always Be A Love Song following some great ones by Ilija Rudman, Ponty Mython and Melchior Sultana. It is a another terrific expression of real proper deep house music. From the driving and hypnotic dub of "January People" to the soulful and uplifting mood lighting of "All Right" and sexy, emotive late night groove ("City To City") - nobody does it quite like Javonntte.

Predictably, the quality threshold remains high throughout this latest Javonntte EP, Garett's first for Alex Attias's Visions Inc. label. On the A-side you'll find "Vocal" and "Radio" versions of "Searchin", a soul-powered chunk of analogue-rich deepness that sits somewhere between the musically complex brilliance of Ron Trent and the slick, rolling warmth of early '90s Goldtone Records releases. Turn to the B-side and you'll find "Private Party", a chunkier and rougher, riff-propelled peak-time bumper, and the redlined, Chez Damier-meets-Derrick Carter bounce of "Life Rhythm". Review: The tenth release on Sebo K's Scenario label comes from Brian "Javonntte" Garrett, a producer who has been in fine form since returning to action in 2016 following nearly two decades out of the game. As you'd expect, the standard of the four tracks is up there with the best U.S deep house around. We're particularly enjoying the crunchy, bass-heavy bustle of "Vibe" and the sweet, head-in-the-clouds goodness of closer "Berlin", where jazzy electric piano notes rise above another crunchy, no-nonsense rhythm track. That said, the classic deep house haziness of opener "The J Mix" - all rolling riffs, Chez Damier beats and cut-up soulful vocal samples - is also hugely endearing.

Since returning to action in 2016, he's released no less than ten 12" singles, all of which have been packed with high quality material. Predictably, it's hard to find fault with the five fine tracks featured on Garrett's first contribution to the Let's Play House "White" series. Review: Sounds Of The City continues to fly the flag for soul enhanced house music from unsung heroes as Javonntte joins the fray with some absolutely un-missable grooves. "Fantasy" seems to capture some of the heated romance of the Cassio Ware classic but reworks it into a fresh, bumping concoction of the highest order. "Late Night People" meanwhile heads into slinkier territory with its killer chord flourishes and tightly wound beat, and then "MRDJ" turns the heat back up with a powerful lead hook purpose-built to get hands held aloft. Review: It's been a while since Detroit producer Javonntte last treated us to a collection of tracks, with his last fresh material dropping way back in 2008. Since, he's kept himself busy by playing instruments on records by Mike Grant's Cool Ppl project. There's much to admire on this five-track collection, from the fluid deep house bump of "Bounce" - whose killer bassline impressively drives things forward - and wavy late night positivity of "Chaka's Revenge", to the classic US deep house brightness of "My Life". The EP concludes with two versions of "These Words"; the super-soulful, vocal dreaminess of "Mix 3", and the similarly warm and comforting "Original Instrumental".

Review: Tales Italy looks to the Motor City for this fresh four tracker featuring some of Detroit's most assured talents. Javonntte sets things moving with 'House Express,' a rickety house groove with plenty of that celebrated US soul. DJ SCSI offers a brilliantly crisp and frosty electro jam in the form of 'Robotik Dance (Shake Yo Thang)' and Brian Kage's 'Connected Principal' heads to the stars on chilly smeared pads and compiling broken beats. The rumbling bassline is the real standout feature though. Lastly, Drivetrain builds the pressure with the tense tech house loops of 'Dark Liaison.' Crucial stuff.

Review: Two takes on the same basic idea here, as Innermoods head honcho joins forces with Detroit producer Javontte - someone who has been in fine form of late - and Brooklyn buddy DJ Romain. Javonntte and Duncan's version of "Drumz Of Africa" is deliciously percussive and groovy, with tasty trumpet lines and warming chords rising above loose-limbed machine drums and a toasty bassline. Romain goes heavier on the drums on his version, placing Duncan's Latin-inspired trumpet work over a combination of dense machine beats and bongo-heavy hand percussion. It's the more obviously floor friendly of the two and all the more remarkable given that it was apparently jammed out in East Flatbush on a Sunday night.

Review: Madrid-based label Mate makes a strong first impression with this assured slab of deep house goodness from Jesus Gonsev and Javonntte. Javonntte needs little introduction - the US producer and vocalist has forged a strong legacy in just a short time from NDATL and Sistrum Recordings to Skylax and Quintessentials. Gonsev has been active for many years, previously appearing on labels like Troubled Kids and more recently deepArtSounds and Altered Moods. As you might expect then, the vibe is heartfelt and mature on this 12", not least when the two team up for the bumping "Feel The Beat In The Air".

Review: The latest joint on Minneapolis Exchange welcomes Detroit house master Javonntte on one side, and Minneapolis' Lowry Boys on the flip. Javonntte is on impeccable form, unfurling his cool and smoky strain of soul on "Say it" and amping up the emotion with the heartfelt "Tears". "Acid House" isn't quite a jacker, but more of a curious diversion into deep house with a 303 undercurrent. Lowry Boys' "Minneapolis Funk" is a blunted bumper - packing loads of swing but keeping the chord hook submerged. "Shag Carpets" is a sweet, piano-sprinkled delight, and "Pure Uncut Acapella" gives you the vocal sample from "Minneapolis Funk" to drop in wherever you want to.

Review: Masterful house artists Javonntte and Malik Alston take care of two tracks each on this seriously weight new EP via Hardmatter. Javonntte kicks off with the hulking great kicks and low-slung bass of 'Dirtydigital' before Malik Alston steps up with the jazzed-out joys of 'Lightshine,' a much more loose and expressive groove with lush percussion and keys. Javonntte's B-side cut 'Martha's In Love' then brings gorgeous synth fluidity over US house grooves and 'Stand' from Alston closes out with star-gazing jazz-house. All four cuts are fresh, inventive, vibey.

Review: Spanish label Mate are back with more excellent house cuts from different corners of the scene. The endlessly prolific Javonntte is in control on the A side, sounding as iconic as ever with the rousing thump of "Quantom". "Mr DJ" is a more soulful track with a catchy vocal hook you'll be humming to yourself for weeks after hearing it. On the flipside, Simon Garcia's The Blaxploited Orchestra is in heavy edit mode on "Ready To Go", bringing a full-frequency funk and sizzling house drums to the fore with a classic sample or two. "Explicit" has a lower tempo, allowing even more space to sink into the pocket and feel the groove from start to finish.
