Bicep & Hammer - "Dahlia" (7:55)
Bicep - "Rays" (6:00)
Bicep - "Seagulls" (5:43)
Review: Northern Irish duo Bicep has built their production career on blending, repackaging and reimagining classic house influences. It's little surprise, then, to find that this latest 12" does the same. Hammer collaboration "Dahlia" sets the tone, combining the bold pianos of vintage Italian house with the kind of dreamy pads and snappy drum machine rhythms that recall the Halcyon days of late '80s/early '80s Balearic house. There's more of a sweaty warehouse feel about "Rays" - all yelping female vocal cuts, booming garage bass and skipping beats - while "Seagulls" sits somewhere between the two tracks, offering both bottom-end bump and eyes-closed sweetness.

Bicep - "Poly Pineapple" (5:58)
Bicep & Hammer - "Icebowl" (4:59)
Bicep & Hammer - "Day 3" (6:30)
Review: By their standards, 2014 has been a relatively quiet year for Belfast boys Bicep, with a remix 12" and the Circles EP on Aus Music their only releases of note. "Lyk Lyk" is, then, a welcome return to action. The title track is particularly sweaty and once again mines vintage rave influences, with fluid synths and cut-up vocals riding a classic late '80s/early '90s breakbeat groove. "Poly Pineapple" is a little deeper, with waves of wide-eyed synths crashing over a thumping house groove. On the flipside, the duo join forces with partner-in-blogging Hammer for a couple of cuts; the woozy, glacial, synth-heavy "Icebowl" and "Day 3", a stomping chunk of retro-futurist techno smothered in 808 State style synths. Balearic techno anyone?

Push Repeat
Review: It's been a wee while since we last heard from Rory Hamilton AKA Hammer, whose formative releases on Bicep's Feel My Bicep label were special to say the least. This is, we think, the Northern Irish producer's first solo EP for almost five years. He starts in style with 'Swerve', a pulsating slab of house-powered body music rich in sequenced bass, shimmering chords and saucer-eyed melodies, before opting for a deeper, tech-tinged and analogue-rich Italo-disco-goes-deep-house sound on 'Swivel'. Over on side B, 'Tbilisi' is a hushed, warehouse-ready affair full of sweat-soaked cymbals, restless square wave bass and vocal stabs, while 'Push Repeat' sees him pepper another sturdy house beat with melodic motifs and quietly moody pads.

I Wanna Be Like You (5:21)
Wakeup Call (5:59)
Review: Italo Hits does exactly what it says on the tin. This latest missive from Hammer is a perfect soundtrack to your lockdown home workout. It brings to mind spandex, aerobics, headbands and sweat socks with its tooting arps and future-retro casino keys. Fully hi-NRG drums and big vocals all add to the drama as you race along at one hundred miles an hour. And that's just the a-side. On the flip, 'Wakeup Call' is a little more dark and edgy, with rugged riffs and slapping hits powering you through the cosmos. These are both certified anthems.

Strong Enough (Mall Grab Escape From Goulburn Supermix) (7:21)
Review: Hammer is the partner and blogging friend of Bicep. He's been putting out big, festival pleasing tunes for a hot minute now and finally started his own label as a way to putting out, presumably, even more. This second issue is a big one. 'Store Enough; has funky guitar riffs, rugged synth loops and a drilling baseline all carrying an epic diva vocal. It's heart felt, high impact, but filled with soul. Backing up the epic original is a darker, more trance inducing, warehouse ready and banging Mall Grab Escape From Goulburn Supermix.

Panoptic (6:23)
Entropy (6:18)
Review: Rory "Hammer" Hamilton has released on numerous labels since making his debut in 2015 - Optimo Music and Sulta Selects Secret Service included - but it seems like he reserves his best work for the imprint he's most associated with, Feel My Bicep. His latest EP for the Northern Irish outlet is certainly strong, with A-side "Parabola" offering an attractive, ear catching mixture of undulating neo-trance riffs, sustained sub-bass notes, relaxed machine beats and suitably psychedelic electronic effects. The same balance of rush-inducing melodic bliss, tactile synth bass and crispy drums comes to the fore on B-side opener "Panoptic", while closing cut "Entropy" is a slightly more psychedelic but no less melodic jaunt through big synth riffs, emotive chords and bustling drums.

C-Space (6:47)

Inside Soul (6:09)
Review: We were somewhat surprised to learn that this is Rory "Hammer" Hamilton's first appearance on chums and sometime studio partners Bicep's consistently on-point label. He's not been shirking mind, having released fine EPs on Optimo Music and Loft Records, amongst others. Happily, C-Space is a fine homecoming, with the A-side title track - a thrillingly intergalactic chunk of saucer-eyed techno that sits somewhere between classic Motor City fare, Orbital and vintage Circulation and early '90s - ranking among Hamilton's best work to date. The deep space vibes continue on the flip via the rubbery electro-meets-intelligent techno flex of "Atlantic 252", while closer "Inside Soul" is a deeper and even more spacey chunk of emotive machine funk.

Review: Earlier this year, Hammer broke loose of his long association with fellow countrymen Bicep with a fine EP of peak-time goodness for the Optimo Disco Plate series. Here the Northern Irishman returns to house pastures via an EP of saucer-eyed loveliness on Loft Records. The dreamy and ultra-positive A-side "Canna" is particularly ear pleasing, featuring as it does a tactile mix of Twin Peaks style chords, hustling acid bass, rave-era whistles and glistening, eight-bit melodies. On the flip, "Manaka" provides more dreamy positivity - think Adriatic sunsets and Mediterranean sunrises - while "Man Ray" sees him pay tribute to a master of surrealism via poignant electronics, lilting melody lines and some clattering drum machine percussion.

Review: Stop: Hammer time! Optimo welcome a new person-of-mystery with two slippery club poppers that teeter between house, disco, funk and boogie. "At Once" struts with loose-strung bass, slinky beats and a possibly a vocal lament for days pre-social media (although we might be looking too deeply into that) "Stripes", meanwhile, goes back to the source: Arthur Russell's Felix guise with a slightly spiky, barbed twist on "Tiger Stripes". Needs more congas? Jump straight on the Special Disco Disco Remix.

Hammer - "Dance Since" (8:25)
Atlus - "Angus" (6:20)
Review: Denis Sulta's Silver Service sublabel hits its third release with more serious club tackle that reflects the kind of gutsy, feel-good firepower the man has made his name on as a DJ. Sometime Bicep collaborator Hammer is up on the A side with the pumping "Dance Since", which strikes a deep and heavy tone suited to the blurry, late night big room house crowd, not least thanks to the massive power vocal treatment. Sulta himself takes on the flip as Atlus, employing a wild style tact that fires off modal acid riffs, primal cries and plenty of grit and distortion. The end result, "Angus", is a raging beast of a track to suit the gnarly basement as much as the festival tent.

Storken & Hammer - "Marabou" (5:54)
Ede - "Radius" (6:03)
Senor Chugger & Count Van Delicious - "Mickeys Vegan Fillet" (5:55)
Review: Numbers hold the key to unlock the universe. So, a six-pack can either consist of six bottles of beer, very well developed stomach muscles or in our case: a string of smash hits. To take it even further, it's exactly six tracks for the sixth part of the VA-series that is One Swallow Doesn't Make A Summer. Hit men include friends new and old: Llewellyn, Stereocalypse, Zillas On Acid, Storken & Hammer, Ede, SeNor Chugger & Count Van Delicious. The pace is cool and hot at the same time. Rave signals by Ede foil the nouveau disco by Stereocalypse or Storken & Hammer, Llewellyn does a classic house piano hop, Zilles On Acid deliver mid-tempo acid, and last, but not least, SeNor Chugger & Count Van Delicious strike a delicious pose.
