Dance Like Nobody's Watching
Cat: LUVD 05. Rel: 08 May 15

Deep House
Deepah - "Ahh, Come On" (5:03)
Folamour - "Brothers Since The First Day" (6:06)
Housecore - "No More Doubts" (6:01)
Rhythm&Soul - "New Dayz" (6:10)
Review: Spain's Luvdancin label is notorious for releasing new and exciting talent in the house game, and they've done it again with this latest collaborative effort from four rising producers. Deepah calls the shots on the A1 - the man is a young house maverick from France - and delivers a Detroit-flavoured house twister in the for of "Ahh, Come On"; the lesser known Folamour also indulges in some quality, laid-back deep house on "Brothers Since The First Day". For the B-side, newcomer Housecore goes for the rawer approach on "No More Doubts", and Paris' Rhythm&Soul aka Joaquin Diaz funks his way through a tight house groove on "New Dayz". Wonderful little DJ tools..!

Love Me Some Friends #1
Cat: MHM 005.

Funky/Club House
Ethyene - "Shine On" (7:04)
Folamour - "Love Frequencies" (6:12)
LB Aka Labat - "Your Ass Gotta Go" (7:19)
Tochigi Canopy - "Gulf Ressac" (7:20)
Review: Moonrise Hill Material has an interesting mission statement. The French label says that it is dedicated to "poetic house music", a deliciously open-ended concept that's open to all sorts of interpretations. In the case of this EP - a multi-artist affair featuring label regulars and newcomers - that largely means chunky club tracks that doff a cap to classic disco and boogie. There are deviations from the blueprint, of course - see the dub-flecked tropical house slinkiness of Tochigi Canopy's "Gulf Ressac", or the Andres-ish loop jazziness of LB aka Labat's "Your Ass Gotta Go" - but it's likely most DJs will reach for the celebratory positivity of Etheyne and Folamour's party-starting A-side cuts.

Just Want Happiness (4:36)
Review: Folamour's ascent to a major label makes perfect sense. He has a richly detailed, musical house sound that appeals to a much wider audience than many. On his latest album, The Journey, The French producer tells an autobiographical tale, capturing moments spent on the road, in airports and hotels. He lays out the highs and lows that come with that with a series of inspired, emotive tracks that range from Afro-tinged, summer festival house tunes like 'The Journey' to more jazz tinged downbeat mood pieces like the gorgeous 'Latecoere.' Album's as warm and comforting as this will always be welcome additions to your shelves.

Melophrenia EP
Cat: CHURCHM 003. Rel: 22 Jun 17

Deep House
Jazz Session For No Future People (6:25)
Melophrenia (6:10)
Janvier In Bed (2:28)
Review: There's a case to say that Folamour has yet to put a foot wrong in 2017. Over the year to date, he's released killer EPs on All City, Moonrise Hill Material and Roots For Bloom, as well as contributing fine tracks to a number of other 12" singles. Predictably, this outing on Church is also hotter than the sun. "Jazz Session For Future People" is a killer chunk of life-affirming jazz-house bounciness that offers a near perfect balance between rolling dancefloor funk and intricate musicality, while "Melophrenia" is a supremely smoky slab of ultra-deep wooziness. Arguably best of all, though, is the hip-hop tempo synthesizer Balearica of "Janvier In Bed", which may well be his most tactile and glassy-eyed cut to date.

Chapeau Rouge
Chapeau Rouge (yellow vinyl 12")
Cat: FAUXPAS 017. Rel: 05 Aug 15

Deep House
Chapeau Rouge (7:18)
Baise En Ville (8:14)
Lost Between Friendly Fires (7:28)
Walking On The Macadam (8:06)
Review: Smooth and sultry deep house for fans of Dessous and Freerange on offer here from Berlin's Fauxpas Music and new signee, Frenchman Folamour. On the A side are "Chapeaux Rouge" and "Baise En Ville" respectively. Up tempo, dancefloor effective numbers which feature all the right elements; lush Rhodes piano and pitched down female vocals with flanged guitars and a swing fuelled rhythm section to boot. What more do you want? Well the B side starts with "Lost between Friendly Fires" which is a deeper, slow motion affair for the afterhours, as is "Walking to the Macadam" with its sombre keys and orchestral samples perfect for the drive home.

First Class EP
Cat: BLRVA 001. Rel: 18 Apr 18

Deep House
Folamour - "Oneness" (7:45)
Ethyene - "Watchin' U" (6:41)
Ari Bald - "First Class" (6:00)
Dorsi Plantar - "Boogie Sunrise" (6:00)
Review: Coming at you on vibrant pink vinyl, Better Listen's First Class EP more than lives up to its' title. Check, for example, the screaming sax lines, life-affirming orchestral disco loops and bumping bottom end of Folamour's brilliant opener, "Oneness", and the bouncy disco-house positivity of Ari Bald's edit-not-edit "First Class", which is guaranteed to put smiles on faces on out on the dancefloor. Dorsi Plantar successfully tries the same trick on to woozy, ultra-soulful bliss of swirling sunshine shuffler "Boogie Sunrise", while Ethyene's undulating "Watching You" brilliantly wraps eyes-closed synthesizer lines and glistening disco guitars around a leisurely mid-tempo house groove.

FHUO 001 (12")
Cat: FHUO 001. Rel: 14 Feb 17

Deep House
Folamour - "Dancing On That Rainbow On The Poneymatrix" (6:41)
Lo Life - "Gucci Tennis 84" (7:03)
Kaffe Creme - "Baciami Subito" (6:55)
Marc Bianco - "Jaco P" (5:46)
Review: Folamour's brand new label is For Heaven Use Only... But don't worry - we won't tell him if you play them at any dancefloor in the real world. The Moonrise Hill hero takes the lead with a lush brushed drum tropical boogie cut that's all light in the synths and woozy in the horns while Lo Life sedates us to the very soul with the lush and loopy "Gucci Tennis 84". Wrapping up the second side we have a Carter-level boompty tub-thumper "Baciami Subito" from Kaffe Creme and an energised jazz techno jam from Marc Bianco that features the slipperiest fretless bass runs this side of Azymuth HQ.
