Review: Colemine Records very much transports us back to another time with this latest lovely offering. It is a deep dive into the work of sophisticated lounge-pop as might be played during dinner at a trendy society ball back in the 60s. It comes from Durand Jones and The Indications and one track off they third album Too Many Tears. It's is one of heartbreak and is lit up by the gorgeous falsetto of Aaron Frazrs on the A-side, who tells s tale of betrayal. On the flip is a sweet soul sound soaked up by new school fans with an alternative indie an experimental sound from Y La Bomba led by singer-songwriter and guitarist Luz Elena Mendoza.

Review: Durand Jones and the Indications' two previous albums offered a distinctively vibrant, heartfelt and lyrically conscious take on 1960s and '70s funk and soul. This time round, the Indianapolis-based band has decided to do things differently, drawing far more influence from deep disco, jazz-funk, boogie and 1970s "modern soul". It's a logical - if slightly surprising - shift, but one that the band has pulled off magnificently. For proof, check the driving bass, woozy chords and locked-in disco drums of 'Witchoo', the rushing, life-affirming joy of peak-time-ready opener 'Love Will Work It Out' and the seriously summery 'The Way That I Do', where Jones' impeccable lead vocals ride a huggable, string-laden modern soul groove. In a word: superb.

Review: Durand Jones and drummer Aaron Frazer front The Indications. The band aren't looking backwards when making music, but they do channel the likes of Jackie Wilson, Curtis Mayfield, and the Impressions. Their sound is steeped in golden strings and dreamy early 70s soul. Their second album furthers that with a very present lyrical mindset and slew of influences from years spent crate-digging. As likely to pull their influences from '70s folk-rock or some classic R&B as they are Nas' most iconic album, Illmatic, The Indications has nailed it with this one.

Review: Earlier this year, Durand Jones and the Indications delivered one of the revivalist soul albums of 2019: the conscious, politically charged "American Love Call". Their latest "45" boasts one of the album's standout moments, "Morning In America", a weary but impassioned commentary on Trump's United States that features evocative strings, laidback 60s soul grooves and a stunning lead vocal from Durand Jones. It comes backed by previously unheard cut "Cruisin' To The Park", a lusciously sugary, heartfelt and loved-up affair where drummer Aaron Frazer handles lead vocals. Like the A-side, it's a stunning slice of emotion-stirring soul.

Teaming up with Durand Jones for the A-side, "Smile" is a powerful preachy cut that digs deep into the classic funk mentality while sitting neatly upside the grills of Aloe Blacc or Gnarls Barkley. "Tuck N Roll", meanwhile, is a Meters-level slice of smouldering instrumental funk with big cymbal splashes and a blissful balance of Rhodes and guitar. Spotless.
