Almost There
Review: There's always a sense of pleasant surprise when it comes to a new record on Dolly, partly because Steffi doesn't really care for the whole content feed game most labels have to deal with, but mostly down to the sheer standard of artist she chooses to work with. Johannes Volk, Dexter and Martyn are some of the recent contributors to the Dolly cause and it's great to see Rotterdam duo Duplex making their debut here. The First Day EP sees Chris Aarse & John Matze lay down a healthy triplet of fresh sounding West Coast box jams that fit snugly in the Duplex canon alongside their material for Clone, Frantic Flowers and Harbour City Sorrow. Dolly favourite Steven Tang showcases his talent for remixes on "First Day" trading in the deep electro snap of the original for a perma rising exercise in crisp analogue techno.

Autosug (original version)
Autosug (Heinrich Mueller remix)
Autosug (Anthony "Shake" Shakir remix)
Review: Taken of their full length "Late Night Driving"! "Autosug" is probably one of their best tracks ever and this deserved a special remix treatment. Two great remixes by Dopplereffekt (Heinrich Mueller) and techno veteran Anthony Shake Shakir. Heinrich Mueller went deeper into the machines and came up with a hi-tech electro piece which blows our minds! Shake came with a great classic remix reminiscent to his works on Frictional records. "I really, really like the original track of Autosug. It is a very original track. It is not sound derivative at all like a lot of the "Detroitish" sounding tracks that come out these days" - Shake.

POM (Time Dilation mix 2 - Heinrich Mueller remix)
POM (Mateschitz mix - Duplex remix)
POM (Spiegelreflex - Duplex remix)
Review: Heinrich Mueller remixed two tracks of the forthcoming Duplex album "Late Night Driving" in his very special way and is (as usual) a few steps ahead of the pack and (as always) tries to push the boundaries of dance music! On this release he delivers two deep advanced electro remixes of ''Play Our Music''. To make the circle round Duplex remixes one of the two POM remixes into a classic Direct Beat influenced electro track. A steady piece of music which shakes like crazy! Sit tight for the next remix EP!!

Review: More sophisticated techno from Duplex, Delta Funktionen and Ohrwert. The fourth instalment of their Field series kicks off with the mammoth "Proprioception", a brooding slice of techno that takes up a whole 12" of wax. The groove of "AM Depth" by Duplex is submerged deep below a raw Chicago-style jack, while the spooky sonic landscape created by the on-fire Delta Funktionen on "Matrimony" rounds of a stellar release.

Duplex - "Damn Dark Wind"
Duplex - "Damn Dark Wind" (Conforce Before The Storm remodel)
Eshu - "For You"
Counterpart - "Implements"
Review: While not as on-radar as the likes of Delsin and Clone, Field has been serving as a great testing ground for the most interesting frontiers of Dutch techno for a good few years. The various artists series of 12"s that they are working through at the moment yields excellent results once again, with Duplex bringing some tense slow-motion atmosphere on his raw jacker of a track, which Conforce cools down in fine remix form. Eshu takes things deeper still with his minimal workout, leaving it to Counterpart to give everyone the fear with his loopy and sinister "Implements".

Duplex - "Population Density"
Tuff Sherm - "Drain Spectre (After Virgo)"
Review: For the third release on their Midlight label, the superbly named Rotterdam trio Gustav Goodstuff, Arie Ghetto and Dickie Rosewater have turned to two contrasting talents; hometown heroes Duplex and the fast-rising Tuff Sherm. The latter's "Drain Spectre (After Virgo)" is particularly enjoyable, delivering as it does a 10-minute foray into Latin-influenced analogue deep house (think vintage synths, loose drum machine percussion and hazy electronics). That said, deep house veterans Duplex also impress with "Population Density", whose warm chords, rubbery synthesizers and shuffling beats border are typically melodic whilst retaining a solid dancefloor sensibility.

Electro
ERP - "ZRX" (5:24)
Duplex - "Molecular" (Ovatow Reclock) (8:08)
Review: Frustrated Funk's latest missive boasts cuts from two of electro's most reliable artists: Convextion man Gerard Hanson (under the deep electro E.R.P. guise) and Rotterdam scene stalwarts Duplex. Hanson handles the A-side, delivering a punchy, club-ready electro workout rich in intergalactic electronics, Egyptian Lover style synth flourishes and restless drum machine cowbells. Interestingly, it's a far bolder and retro-futurist affair than we've come to expect from the dreamy and emotion-rich E.R.P. project. Ironically, Duplex's atmospheric and spacey "Molecular (Ovatow Reclock)" is undeniably deep and sumptuous, matching Hanson's most melodious and evocative moments.

Ross From Friends - "High Energy" (5:47)
Dave Aju - "Wayahed" (6:10)
Duplex - "Isolator" (6:06)
Review: While the release of nd_baumecker's "Panoramabar 07" mix may have been delayed indefinitely due to "licensing issues", this second vinyl sampler has happily made it past the lawyers. Like its predecessor, it contains a trio of previously unreleased tracks. Ross From Friends kicks things off with "High Energy", a surprisingly cheery and sun-kissed blend of bouncy deep house drums, lilting pedal steel guitar motifs and drowsy, "Twin Peaks" style chords. Sometime Circus Company regular Dave Aju impresses via the cut-up vocal samples, melodious sub-bass, and broken house rhythms of "Wayahed", while Duplex steals on the show on side B with the intertwined synthesizer melodies, rush-inducing positivity and shuffling lo-fi deep house beats of "Isolator".
