  2. It Will Never Be The Same Again (Moullinex remix)
  3. It Will Never Be The Same Again (Punks Jump Up remix)
  4. Sun Machine (feat The Reverb Junkie)
Review: Drop Out Orchestra's "It Will Never Be The Same Again" first appeared on Aeroplane's In-Flight Entertainment mix in October 2011, and here we finally see a vinyl release on Eskimo Recordings, including a set of remixes from the likes of Moullinex and Punks Jump Up. Moullinex takes the optimistic core of the original and injects some Chicago snare rolls and a rounded, plucking bass line that sits in the back of the throat. Punks Jump Up meanwhile utilise a notable clap drenched in a deadly phase that cuts right through the beat. The vocal hook, fierce piano stabs and soft guitar sounds all dovetail with effortless aplomb, making for a very enjoyable cut that rounds off a fine release.

Holding On (Yam Who? remix) (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: RGEAR 001. Rel: 10 Jul 17
  1. Holding On
  2. Holding On (Yam Who? rework)
  3. Knucklehead
  4. Where Is My Man
Review: Swedish disco aficionado Drop Out Orchestra has been plying his trade in the world of slick edits and on-point party fodder for the best part of ten years now, and now he comes to Riot Gear with a sure fire club classic to share. There's no prizes for guessing the source material on "Holding On", but in this context the evergreen crossover jam gets a modern steroid injection, having never sounded more contemporary than here. Yam Who? sidles in for a remix that does a subtle job, simmering down some of the familiar vocals and making a slinkier cut that still hits hard. "Knucklehead" brings a little more jacking drum machine action to the table, but still disco is the main order of the day, while "Where Is My Man" takes the prize with its on point jazz funk licks and stomping beat.

  1. Out To Lunch
  2. Out To Lunch (shorter)
  3. Man On The Run
Review: There's an enviable penchant for live disco sounds that characterise Drop Out Orchestra productions, but it's also their disregard for perceived notions of coolness that is gaining the mysterious Swedish troupe an increasing fan base. "Out To Lunch" has been one of the Drop Out's most successful reworks to date - doing the near impossible in stripping the Sex Pistols "Pretty Vacant" of its inherent punk anthemness. In its place is a vintage disco groove that runs at an epic eleven minutes and is dipped in just the right amount of dubby excellence. One listen in its entirety and it's easy to see why the track has received support from such varied luminaries as Diskjokke, Aeroplane and Jaymo & Andy George. Check the B-Side take on mid 90s prog house pop hit "Son Of A Gun" for further evidence of the aforementioned disregard for coolness.

Be Free With Your Love (white vinyl 10")
Cat: BBR 010. Rel: 15 Sep 15
  1. Drop Out Orchestra - "Be Free With Your Love" (feat Vinny Vero - Opolopo remix - Lord Funk re-edit) (6:36)
  2. Al Velilla - "Fearless" (feat Opolopo) (5:07)
Review: Boogie Butt get busy with the perennial Opolopo as he adds his magic touch to two already great disco joints; first up are the futuristic shades wearing Drop Out Orchestra whose 2013 burner "Be Free With Your Love" gets a slight swing and velvet synth touch. Flip for Al Velilla's "Fearless" wherein Opolopo gets his swing on and flips the groove into a juicy p-funk jitterbug. Smooth.

  1. Drop Out Orchestra - "Jin Go La" (5:50)
  2. FSQ - "Shaking My Damn Head" (feat Dolette McDonald) (4:47)
  3. Perdu - "Cece" (6:32)
  4. South Beach Recycling - "Bongo Man" (5:00)
Review: Midnight Riot's recently-released Riot In Lagos compilation paid tribute - in some style, we should add - to the enduring influence of African music on contemporary dance culture. This sampler 12" gathers together four of the most sought-after cuts from the digital-only set. Drop Out Orchestra kick things off with the fuzzy guitars, glistening solos, relentless handclaps and bongo-heavy drum rhythms of Candido tribute "Jin Go La", before FSQ deftly fuse Afro-disco and electrofunk on dancefloor stomper "Shaking My Damn Head". On the flip you'll find the breezy, Balearic-influenced Afro-disco fluidity of Perdu's "Cece", and the sun-kissed juju business of South Beach Recycling's fabulous "Bongo Man".

  1. Mr Chicago - "Bad Dub"
  2. Drop Out Orchestra - "Get Up"
  3. The Legendary 1979 Orchestra - "The Living"
  4. Ajello - "That Groove Again"
Review: ISM Records drop this tasty 12" sampler of what to expect from their forthcoming Midnight Riot compilation that showcases the finest slo mo cuts, boogie joints and late night takes. The four tracks included here represent the DJ friendly contributions with Drop Out Orchestra, Ajello, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra and Mr Chicago present. The latter steps up first with "Bad Dub" which expertly submerges a mid 90s US rock n roll classic in all manner of echo and delay, whilst fellow Scandinavians Drop Out Orchestra provide an equally inventive electro groove rendition of a Sylvester standard with "Get Up". Dinner City Sound contributor The Legendary 1979 Orchestra brings some effervescent disco vibes to the B Side with "The Living" notable for its rough drum programming as much as the slick sample looping. Little needs to be said about Italians Ajello other than they know how to construct a disco groove that combines classic and contemporary touches and "That Groove Again" is a perfect example of this talent.
