Review: Motor City artist Detroit's Finest doesn't do things by half - his electro is turbo-charged, with big booty bass and rave sirens underlining hard raps and streetwise swagger. He now finds himself on Casa Voyager outta France, laying out a double 12" vision that is varied and vital. After the urban opener 'Hands Behind Your Back' that is all about snapping snare loops and impromptu block parties, 'Undefeated' veers towards jungle madness. There are also sci-fi excursions, sample heavy and jazz tinged rollers like 'Blaxploitation' and pure ghetto bangers in 'Dis N Dat'. This one might be the mysterious producer's best yet.

Electro
  1. Baby Makin Music (4:14)
  2. Mothership Has Landed (4:05)
  3. No Strings Attached (3:35)
  4. Social Engineering (3:50)
Review: Prolific but underrated Motor City producer Detroit's Filthiest makes a comment on the falsehoods of society with his latest EP. But there is nothing fake about his talent: he manipulates his machines in compelling fashion here, pairing perfectly squelchy bass and synthetic synth textures with the most gorgeous and organic piano keys imaginable. "Baby Makin Music" is laden with romantic chords, while "Mothership Has Landed" is more edgy and unsettled. On the flip, "No Strings Attached" is a playful and jazzy electro cut that makes way for the equally excellent "Social Engineering". In these times of electro trendiness, this EP still manages to stand out.

Electro
  1. Dolemite (4:11)
  2. Trauma (4:02)
  3. Deuce & A Quarter (3:57)
  4. The Chase Scene (4:13)
Review: Casa Voyager records has scored something of a coup here by persuading Detroit's Filthiest - better-known as ghetto-tech and booty bass veteran DJ Nasty - to share some of his "Private Stock" of club-ready cuts. He begins in confident mood via "Dolemite", a brilliant fusion of fizzing '80s funk synths, ghetto-tech attitude and bumpin' electro drums, before unleashing the buzzing electronics and punishing beats of "Trauma". Curiously, there's a little UK garage flava to snappy and soul-fired flipside opener "Deuce and a Quarter", while "The Chase Scene" is as warm, musically rich and melodious as anything the producer has released to date (and that's saying something).

  4. Textasy - "They're Trying To Control My Mind" (3:38)
  5. CDN - "60313" (3:45)
Review: German imprint FreiTanzPlatten, or simply FTP, has been rocking hard since their first records began appearing back in 2017, and they've been solidly flying off our shelves ever since. It's no surprise, however, because these are phat-ass electro tunes that will undoubtedly kill just about any soul on the dance floor - and off it! As per usual, this is a collaborative flex, with each player bringing something fresh and equally deathly to the cause - the likes of Erotek, Zolaa, Detroit's Filthiest, Textasy and CDN all spread the hatred in a beautiful way, slinging and slewing that bone-head gear like it's a warehouse rave in Detroit, back in the golden era. Tough, mean... and utterly recommended!
