Review: Derek Carr is smoldering hot at the moment. His every release is being greeted as an instant classic by the Deep House community. So it seems well-timed, then, that he'd run headlong into Love Notes (from Brooklyn), who have been on a not unimpressive run themselves. Perhaps expectedly, this Detroit vibes abound on the record; from the rich strings of Sidewinder (the most dancefloor friendly track here), through the spaced out breakbeat of the title track, down to beautiful, UR-esque closing strains of Indigo. A well curated EP from an artist at the pinnacle of his game.

Review: Romanian imprint Why So Seris have previously served up great work by homegrown heroes such as Nu Zau, Lumieux, Sublee and Lizz so it is quite a surprise that Irishman Derek Carr makes his mark on Why So Series 004. Known by the label as a prolific and outstanding producer when it comes to dancefloor oriented techno and tech house influenced tracks, they are more than happy to present Derek's Liquid industries EP. Starting off with the loopy and hypnotic deep house of "Theta" he then gets stuck into some vintage hi-tech soul on the energetic Solar Storm". On the flip, "Sub System 7" follows in suit channelling the vibe of greats like Aril Brikha while "Exodus II" gives you your fix of sunny swing fuelled tech house in the vein of iO Mulen or Zendid.

  2. Bigeneric - "Ukrel" (8:02)
  3. Derek Carr - "Ceres Station" (6:43)
  4. Cozmic Jazzz Futurist - "Space Jazzz (Movement 1)" (6:04)
Review: Following fine outings from Bigneric and Dark Matrix last year, Childhood Intelligence sets out its stall for 2018 via a fine, compilation style EP. Fernando the Lobster steps up first, wrapping rich deep house keys and starry electronics around a deep electro groove, before Bigneric's "Ukrel" delivers a dose of deep tech-house goodness. Over on side B, Derek Carr unfurls spacey chords and analogue sounding drums on the quietly hypnotic "Ceres Station", while Cozmic Jazzz Futurist pitches down the beats on a deep, jazzy and almost horizontal late night soundscape. A strong start to the year, all told.
