  3. Ain't Got No Time (Japan Blues remix) (5:24)
  4. OTown (Japan Blues remangle) (4:11)
Review: The inaugural release on the Place No Blame imprint comes from Offenbach-based oddball DJ Slyngshot. The Yappin Records' founder's slim discography is full of curious, off-kilter gems, and this 12" is no different. Interestingly, his original versions are tucked away on the flip, though both "OTown" (a loopy, dusty, organ-heavy jazz-house/MPC hip-hop hybrid) and "Ain't Got No Time" (a tougher, more locked-in jazz-house groover) are impressive. The A-side is instead taken up by Japan Blues re-makes of the same tracks. The championed producer teases out the head-nodding aspects of "OTown" whilst adding some distorted low-end grunt, before delivering a wonky, surging, synth-laden re-shape of "Ain't Got No Time".

Love Unlimited EP
Love Unlimited EP (12") (1 per customer)

Deep House
  1. 180554 (extended version) (9:32)
  2. Love Unlimited (6:53)
  3. Tryna Get My Act Together (6:30)
Review: Slyngshot seems to specialize in creating tracks that neatly sidestep convention, blending dusty deep house sounds with hip-hop influenced breaks, and left-of-centre 4/4 rhythm tracks. He's at it again on the Love Unlimited E.P, which sees him return to his Yappin' imprint after an excursion on Place To Be earlier this year. He begins with the woozy, cyclical chords, fusty textures and crackly post hip-hop beats of "180554", before diving into Dolo Percussion style drum machine abuse on the deliciously energetic and rhythmic "Love Unlimited". Those after more straightforward house thrills should check flipside "Tryna Get My Act Together", where crusty cymbals and drowsy, looped melodies ride a bombastic groove.

Deep House
  1. New Era (5:45)
  2. OF XTC (Action mix) (8:07)
  3. OF XTC (Understatement mix) (6:28)
  4. Stop Playin' (part 1) (8:22)
Review: It's been a good 18 months since DJ Slyngshot impressed us with the Love Unlimited EP, a fine fusion of deep house sounds, hip-hop inspired drum breaks and skewed, 4/4 rhythm tracks. There are plenty of similar sounds to be found on the New Era EP. He kicks things off via the title track, where cascading electric piano motifs and mazy synths tumble down over a heavy bassline and skittish hip-hop drums, before ratcheting up the tempo and intensity on fuzzy deep house stomper "OF XTC (Action Mix)". Flip for the Afro-acid madness that is the Understatement Mix of the same track - arguably the most potent and mind-altering thing on the whole EP - and the out-there brilliance of "Stop Playin' (Part 1)", which flits between booming sub-bass breakdowns and crunchy electro drums.

Dance 2017 Pt 2
Cat: SECRETDANCE 20172. Rel: 22 Jun 17
Deep House
  1. DJ Slyngshot - "Hygh Tech" (10:58)
  2. Bastien Carrara - "That Time Again" (6:56)
  3. Jayson Wynters - "Chi Kung" (7:33)
Review: As you'd expect, there's far more hits than misses on this second sampler 12" for Secretsundaze acclaimed Dance 2017 compilation. We're particularly enjoying the deep and spacey shuffle of Jayson Wynters's "Chi Kung", where eyes-closed electronics and intergalactic synthesizer flourishes cluster around a bongo-laden, acid-fired groove. Bastien Carrera's gently bobbing "That Time Again" is also quietly impressive, but it's the A-side salvo from DJ Slyngshot that really impresses. Entitled "Hygh Tech", the track doffs a cap to both tactile, loved-up old deep house and chunkier early UK tech-house, while carving its own breakbeat-driven, rave-for-days old school niche.
