Sky Dump (4:36)
Massive Birth (4:50)
Taylorpo (Warehouse Preservation Society remix) (5:23)
Massive Birth (Mind Fair remix) (5:43)
Review: Coolly stepping out like a white-suited player on a Miami club strip, the high expectations set by any mention of Italian disco pioneer Daniele Baldelli are easily matched by the opener and title number. And things really only get better from there.
'Massive Birth' is an intelligent, freeform outing on a half-time, DJ Rocca's ever-tight drum programming clearly having some influence on the complex percussive patterns. On the flip, Mind Fair have their way with that original, turning it into a more grounded four-four workout if you listen beyond the top layer of rolls and snare crashes. For many, though, this one will be all about the Warehouse Preservation Society remix of 'Taylorpo', which puts Italo right back at the top of the disco agenda, sounding at once space age yet nostalgic, and unquestionably, unstoppably danceable.

Funkynoizer (5:30)
Funkynoizer (Selvagem Farofa mix) (5:46)
Funkynoizer (Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco mix) (7:45)
Funkynoizer (DJ Rocca Boogie mix) (6:04)
Review: The fabulous "Funkynoizer" is typical of Daniele Baldelli and DJ Rocca's previous collaborative work, melding as it does spacey, cosmic electronics and alien noises with delay-laden guitar flourishes, funk-fuelled bass and dubbed-out horn lines. It's really rather good and comes accompanied by a trio of remixes. Selvagem embraces the duo's instinctive musical insanity while dragging "Funknoizer" further towards dub disco territory, before Pete Herbert and Dicky Trisco lay down a summery, dub-flecked Balearic disco interpretation. DJ Rocca rounds things off with a "Boogie" mix of his own that cannily draws out the original's synth bassline while adding jangling piano riffs seemingly inspired by Cheryl Lynn's "To Be Real".

Pink Ghost (6:06)
Volupia (5:22)
Kachiri (Tronik Youth mix) (5:43)
Review: Chug factor set to stun, two outright disco legends team up on Nein for three slabs of wriggling, giggling analogue fun and one remix. "Kachiri" is quite the head-turner, all psychedelic and densely weaved with meandering top lines that counter against each other. "Pink Ghost" is a much darker slice, conjuring up echoes of early Black Strobe with its detuned undertones and stately risers while "Volupia" rolls on a broken beat rhythm with sweeping pads and cool 808 clicks and whirrs. Tronik Youth takes care of closing duties with a deeper, darker take on "Kachiri". With the trippiness switched for drones and a ploughman kick drum, it's yet another gold star for the Nein Records boss.

Out To Lunch
Review: Is It Balearic...? recordings latest is the Reflextion EP from Baldelli & Rocca. 3 electronic disco bombs and a quality remix from Ray Mang. Reflextion is a driving synth Italo disco stomper. Mr Mang adds a little acid and a touch of house. Side B's first track is a classically Italo disco dancefloor gem - lots of synth action and a flappy percussion give this a hypnotic quality ready for some smoke drenched dancefloors. Out To Lunch is a more quirky take on the same theme like a lost maxi 12 b-side of an Italian electro pop track from the late 80's. Great EP.

RoBa Che Scotta
RoBa Che Scotta (Ichisan remix)
Space Scribble
Review: For those with an interest in the lefttield side of European disco, the recent renaissance of legendary Italian DJ Daniele Baldelli has been an exciting development. For those outside of Northern Italy, Baldelli remained a marginal figure for many years. Although he - and, it could be argued, compatriot Beppe Loda - invented the "cosmic disco" sound in the late 1970s and early 80s, it's only in the last decade that the sound has been celebrated across the globe. This collaborative EP with fellow Italian spinner DJ Rocca is his first release since 2009. It sees the duo give contemporary nudisco a fresh new twist, adding obvious Italo, cosmic and old skool electro influences. Nowhere is this more evident than on lead track "RoBa Che Scotta", where the veteran duo add simplistic, stargazing melodies to a rough, appregiated groove. There's beauty within the heavy analogue beats and bassline, but they never lose sight of the dancefloor. Ichisan provides a slightly grubbier, disco-centric rework for those who dig straight-up nudisco. The EP finishes with the title track. Similarly melodic and intergalactic in its construction, 'Space Scribble' has an endearing, child-like quality thanks to a sprightly mix of original electro beats, swirling chords and analogue synth riffery. It's a great end to Baldelli's best EP yet.

Discoteca (Faze Action remix)
Discoteca (Heavy Fun instrumental)
Review: Balearic titans Chris Coco and DJ Rocca team up on this new slab for Faze Action which celebrates all the finest qualities of these two veteran maestros. 'Discoteca (Heavy Fun Dub)' pours plenty into the mix, from sizzling disco and dreamy dub to slick 80s motifs, and yet it all comes off feeling very chilled indeed. 'Brute' plays around with analogue synths and raw drum machine punch to create a slow but intense cosmic workout, before Faze Action themselves step up to rework 'Discoteca' into a lean and mean club tool. For those who want to skip the breathy vocals, there's also an instrumental mix of 'Discoteca' included on the B2.

One For Frankie (7:13)
Don't You Feel The Same (5:38)
Zanzibar (5:51)
Review: The legendary Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca are back on Berlin via Munich's Gomma imprint. Dimitri comes from the Parisian school of disco. He first appeared with his debut album Sacrebleu in 1996 alongside with the first French house wave, such as St.Germain, Super Discount and Daft Punk. Some years ago he teamed up with Italian producer, DJ and man of many talents DJ Rocca. He might be known to many for his work as Ajello and Crimea X. Among the many names he produced music for, he also made tracks with cosmic disco innovator DJ Daniele Baldelli. When Rocca and Dimitri are in the studio together, they somehow have a magic touch: as heard here on these sleek and sexy four tracks. The neon-lit and pop inflected '80's groove of "One For Frankie" is a surefire party starter: it's all about the Moog bassline and those epic panpipes. "Don't You Feel The Same" channels that classic French Touch sound like contemporaries such as DJ Falcon or Alan Braxe on this feelgood late night anthem.

Disco Shake (A Tom Moulton mix)
Disco Shake (Luminodisco remix)
Disco Shake (Jkriv remix)
Review: Blimey! Hell Yeah come through with a 12" from French disco dons Dimitri From Paris and DJ Rocca that features a remix from the genre's originator Tom Moulton! Quite the coup indeed, and it's nice to see Dimitri and Rocca back behind the buttons together as their Erodiscoteque project was severely under-rated! In contrast to so much music that get's lumped in nu disco, it's clear this pair were looking to produce an authentic slab of disco with "Disco Shake" and how they have succeeded! The accompanying mix from Moulton amps up the celebratory vibe of the track with a degree of class you'd expect from the man, whilst there are further remixes on the flip from Luminodisco and Jkriv, with the latter's effort a more contemporary affair that will work as a set bridge to housier material.

I Need A Reason (feat Fred Ventura - main vocal mix)
Review: Iconic French producer Dimitri From Paris takes a break from his international globe trotting endeavours for Hand Of God to introduce Erodiscoteque - a new endeavour with DJ Rocca which marks Dimitri's first excursion for Gomma! "I Love New York" is naturally the duo's paean to everyone's favourite city, specifically the late 80's, early 90s era of freestyle and raw house. The title track is undeniably of this era, with a heavy midtempo MPC beat augmented by plenty of horn vibes and late nite piano stabs - watch out for that breakdown! "Beatdown" brings the electro boogie heat, all squelchy bass, post disco key squiggles and choppy beats. The real gem is reserved for the B Side with Italo disco deity Fred Ventura enlisted to add some vintage vocals to the electro synth odyssey that is "I Need A Reason" which is dipped in an authentic 80s quality that few these days can match.

Discodromo - "A Come Andromeda" (7:11)
Fratelli Riviera - "Falling" (4:54)
DJ Rocca - "Backery's Track" (5:18)
Le Macchine - "Greg" (6:14)
Review: Slo Motion's Italian Dance Wave series was initiated earlier in the year, primarily to showcase "Italian artists who make music with an Italian flavour". There's naturally much to admire on this third volume, from the opening shuffle of Discodromo's stylish, mascara-clad New Wave disco jam "A Come Andromeda", to the cheery Italo-disco revivalism-meets-80s electro flex of DJ Rocca's "Backery's Track". The dancefloor highlight is undoubtedly the surging, darkroom Italo-disco throb of Le Macchine's filthy "Greg", though you'll find little as deep, dreamy and beguiling as Fratelli Riviera's wonderful "Greg". Either way, it's a fine collection of tracks.

Fix Up Elgam (3:34)
Review: DJ Rocca is something of a musical chameleon: a producer, DJ, remixer and audio engineer whose work touches on a wide variety of dancefloor-focused sounds. Of late, he's tended to focus mostly on nu-disco and Balearic house, but on this EP he's opted for a darker, hazier and more electronic sound that draws inspiration from his tech-house productions of old. For proof, check opener 'Loren's Holiday', where oddball electronics, faintly foreboding riffs and effects-laden motifs ride a dark bassline and wonky drums, and the angular, Orbital style riffs of warehouse-ready jack-track 'Iron Exposure'. You'll find more Brown Album era Orbital style sounds on the Afro-cosmic-tinged trip that is 'Heartbreaker', while 'Fix Up Elgam' is creepy, psychedelic and mind-altering in the best possible way.

Tropicale 17 (Chicken Lips Malfunction) (12:13)
Review: You can always rely on Whiskey Pickle for some of that playful weirdness and this time out it is prolific Italian producer DJ Rocca who serves up the musical thrills and spills. 'Detox' is an old school, 80s sounding synth heavy jam with poly rhythms and tropical feelings that lead to steamy dance floors. Things stay retro with 'Tropicale 17' which has a nice shimmery electro beat, arpeggiated bell sounds and naturalistic jungle motifs that take you to another world. Remixing it is long time disco dons Chicken Lips, who smooths things out to go for a more extended and slow burning cosmic journey.

Review: Roam Recordings out of San Francisco have been at it since the early noughties releasing great stuff by the likes of local heroes Justin Martin and Demarkus Lewis through to Rhythm Plate and even Tone Of Arc or Heretic in recent times. Next up is Luca Roccatagliati a legendary Italian DJ, musician and producer who had collborated with Daniele Baldelli and Dimitri From Paris over the years. On this nice EP he serves up "Maccheroni" a deep and semi-balaric acid house groove, but it's all about Eric "Dr. Dunks' Duncan's tough rework which really works that 303 acid into something that bit more hearty. On the flip "Aura" is yet more of the same but the remix by Black Spuma (comprised of Gerd Janson and Fabrizio Mammarella) is the real winner here on this sleek, neon-lit house anthem for retroverts.

Slumber (El Diablo's Social Club remix)
Review: After taking us on a drug chug at the start of the year DJ Rocca serves up 2 tracks for the next EDSC Release.

Lets Go Party kicks things off.... stabby chords, Roland percussion, catchy vocal shots, bass-line and massive E'd up breakdowns make this a must have slate for your box.

Th remix comes in the form of an Italo banger from a fave of the El Diablo's cartel - Brioski who goes straight for the heart of the dance floor and rips it right out.

Slumber slows the pace down a bit sounding like something from a late 70's Italian horror movie...pulsating chords & echoey piano reminiscent of Claudio Simonetti & John Carpenter.

El Diablo's Social Club remix stays in the same vein making making sparse use of the eerie piano whilst adding a chuggy bassline, heavy arps and some extra guitars courtesy of Crazy P's Tim Davies.

Review: Cosmic Italo don Rocca goes supernovae with this epic lolloping analogue workout for the emergent Italian label. Living up to its name by way of very well-known Colorsound vocal, the original Flying mix of "Destination To The Sun" is one of Rocca's most cosmic adventures yet. Peel away some of the synth overlays and vocals and the flipside dub does the best Moroder impression you've heard this century (no really). Finally, Leo Mas & Fabrice Sonic team up to remix the track for an equally adventurous synth-slapping arpeggiated slab of dynamic disco.

Review: File Under Disco have amassed some serious respect in house and new disco corners. Check these glittering grooves from Maffia Club's Rocca and you'll understand just why: "Pizza On Wednesday" struts and sways with beautifully rounded Prelude-style bass run, soft sexy vocals and charming flute parps. Elsewhere we hit "A Magical Day", a seriously spaced out, stripped back nodder that's peppered with bubbly FX, staccato synths and a muscular bassline. "Love Power", meanwhile, is as authentically disco as it gets: big strings, cheeky synth squiggles on the fills and, above all, a big old stomping groove. Feel the love!

Graffi
Warming Funk
No Dogs
Review: Best known for his discoid turns on the likes of Gomma and Nang, DJ Rocca makes his first appearance on Slow Motion with a dazzling spread of heavyweight grooves that speak of classic approaches with a modern tongue. The title track is an instant head grabber with its hooky refrain that switches a melodic phrase between piano, synth and bass with a kinky amount of ring modulation in the mix. It's a certified banger offset remarkably well by the more lackadaisical breeze of "Graffi" with its slow release chords and simmering beat. "Warming Funk" calls back up the freaky spirits for an off-centre party starter, and "No Dogs" settles back into the Balearic tempo, but manages to keep that creepy undertone in place for a delightfully chilling end to a sterling record.

Review: It's quite a surprise that perennial Italian disco jammer DJ Rocca hasn't linked up with Rothmans before, but on the label's first release of 2016 he makes up for lost time with a grip of tracks positively dripping with full-fat synthy goodness. "Kratos" packs in a serious Italo thrum with its wonderful arpeggio bassline, bursting with optimism as every buoyant lead line piles on top of the forward-marching beat. "400 Fonk" meanwhile flips the script with a cheeky, bouncy beast of an analogue jam to get heads nodding like Wally Badarou just took the controls. Daniele Baldelli then blasts "Kratos" into the stratosphere with his muscular "Electropsychomix".

Rayko - "Space Trip" (6:37)
Review:
Spanish nu-disco label Rare Wiri is a rare thing indeed. Not only has it been putting out classy disco sounds for 12 years, but it now hits that hugely rare and noteworthy landmark of 100 releases. A suitably big cast of names appears on this celebratory EP with DJ Rocca twisting melons on his proudly analogue mid tempo disco groover 'Mausy.' Eric Duncan manages to sound both Balearic and edgy with his 'Suan Wu,' a darkened tuned with arching guitar riffs and twinkling keys.
Mushrooms Project keeps it deep and weird and Rayko closes out with a nice speed out stepper that reaches for the future.

A Reason For Leaving (Italo vocal remix) (5:23)
Review: Having worked together previously with Dimitri From Paris, Rocca teams up with iconic Italo singer Fred Ventura once again for a sparkling slice of dramatic synth-sizzled disco pop. Remix-wise NOIA lay down a chugging, vocoder-laden DFA-style dubby disco workout and Italoconnection repurpose every element to create a whole new track that surges with hookiness and a slightly repitched vocal. Finally we hit Rocca's new Italo version of the aforesaid Dimitri hook-up "A Reason For Living". Spacey.

Bronze (6:04)
I Got A Toy (6:20)
Review: We're used to seeing DJ Rocca in collaborative mode; since making his debut in 2005, he's worked alongside everyone from Dimitri From Paris and Hard Ton to Fred Ventura, Rodion and In Flagranti. His latest collaborator is label-hopping London producer Alex Warren AKA Kiwi. A-side "Bronze" is warm and breezy, with the pair wrapping heavy analogue tones, dream house style chords and cosmic synthesizer flourishes around a sturdy, suitably bass-heavy groove. "I Got A Toy" is arguably even more fluid and colourful, with the combination of melodic positivity, bubbly bass and crunchy machine drums making a suitably Balearic impression despite its obvious house credentials.

Ever Changing Bubbles (Deep88 Balearic dub) (5:29)
Review: They don't come much classier than Claremont 56, a label that deals in famously horizontal sounds that are superbly high quality. Deep88 is an Italian with a loveably analogue sound that is steeped in sunset house vibes. Add the two together and you have a perfect match. The a-side here finds Deep88 turn DJ Rocca and Leo Almunia's "Ever Changing Bubbles" into a lush Ibizan beach scene with sweet yacht rock riffs, warm drums and vocals that add an exotic feel. They're removed on the dub which is even more hypnotic.

Every Changing Bubbles (6:28)
Estate (4:04)
Mbira Funk (6:15)
Review: Two top names from the contemporary Italian scene go head-to-head here, as nu-disco don (and sometime Dimitri From Paris collaborator) DJ Rocca shares a studio with one half of Claremont 56-signed cosmic disco duo Almunia, Leo Cecanti. It seems to be a match made in heaven. Certainly, it's hard to dislike the breezy and sun-kissed A-side "Every Changing Bubbles" [sic], where rolling acoustic guitars and fluttering flute solos seemingly dance atop a rolling cosmic disco groove. Over on side B, the experienced duo adds some epic jazz guitar solos to a blazed jazz-funk/jazz-rock groove on the rather fine "Estate", before reaching for their Clavinet on the dancefloor-ready, Baldelli style, rock-influenced cosmic strut of "Mbira Funk".

Solid Street (6:10)
Solar System (6:00)
Rose Tree (5:51)
Review: B2 Recordings hits release number 13 with DJ Rocca and Lex combing on a trio of fresh house cuts that blend elements of disco, Latin and soul. Up first is the glorious 'Solid Street' which has loose and percussive disco-house grooves overlaid with big synth energy and steamy vocals. 'Solar System' is slower and deeper, with a more rugged bassline and low slung sense of funk that never lets up. 'Last of all, 'Rose Tree' is a ramshackle house arrangement with whistles, Rhodes keys, tin-pot percussion, florid flutes and plenty of sunny energy all making it a real standout. A timeless EP packed with musicality.

Music For Your Lose (6:57)
Powa (6:04)
Review: Neil Diablo's To Rack & Ruin edit series has been on fire of late, delivering killer reworks by The Rejected, Phil Gerus, and Que Sakamoto & NT. Volume 13 contains a quartet of collaborative reworks by Italian pals DJ Rocca and N2B. First up is "Inergy", a dirty and full-throttle disco workout that contains a fantastic extended percussion break midway through. Rocca and N2B reach for the disco delays on the super-sweet shuffler "Mister Cheryl", before whipping their shirts off for a muscular disco-funk hoedown (the sax-laden stomp that is "Music For Your Lose"). Finally, the tape delays return on the dense, disco-goes-proto-house closer "Powa", which may well be our pick of the bunch.
