Seikou (12")
Cat: XQST 02. Rel: 15 Jan 15
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Seikou
  2. Seikou (Thomas Melchior dub remix)
Review: Two years is a long time between releases, but you can forgive Lisbon's vinyl only Xquisite when their quality threshold is so very high. Romanian talent Ivel Tax cut the ribbon then, but this second release sees the label looking much closer to home throwing the spotlight on rising Portuguese producer Cleymoore. The sound Bruno 'Cleymoore' Santos achieves on "Seikou" can be likened to a hopeless romantics take on the classic Villalobos style, with those percolating textures and delightfully skipping percussive touches augmented by the most wonderful of hazy textural touches. Xquisite have sought out a fine individual to offer an alternate vision of the track in Thomas Melchior, who instils all manner of extra percussive detail into the mix with the resultant production subtly darker in tone.

Apex Of The Sun (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: TLR 003. Rel: 24 Oct 16
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Lyra The Harp (12:36)
  2. Vega (14:18)
Review: While Pheek may have been in operation for as long as anyone can remember within minimal house and techno, Cleymoore has been most productive more recently thanks to his Pluie/Noir label. Following on from last year's Seikou single on Xquisite, here Cleymoore and Pheek link up to deliver some densely packed, production rich jams that keep the spirit of mid-00s clicks and cuts alive. The beats themselves may be slender slices that carry the energy of the tracks, but it's all in the infinitesimal details in between that the true magic of this music comes alive.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Schaa - "Masquee" (13:48)
  2. Cleymoore - "Nebula" (14:39)
Review: Paranoid and claustrophobic minimal house on offer here from newly inaugurated imprint Hdnsm, from London. What they lack in vowels they make up for with their sense of hypnotic and abstract groove. Schaa's "Masquee" is a hazy dance routine performed on downers while the early morning sunlight peers through the blinds and all accompanied by his own pitch shifted monologue. It's reminiscent of the quirky stuff Baby Ford was doing a while back, and that's fine by us! On the flip is Cleymoore with "Nebula" which gets into some intricate and mindbending mircosampling. A groove made not so much for afterhour's dancefloors, rather the after-afterhours and perfect for sleep deprived mindgames.

Sheep EP (heavyweight vinyl 12") (1 per customer)
Cat: SCRTC 001. Rel: 11 Aug 16
Minimal/Tech House
  1. SIT - "Near Jam" (10:27)
  2. Funk E & Luc Ringeisen - "Your House" (6:28)
  3. Joaquin Lledo & Cleymoore - "Juice & Bread" (8:22)
Review: New Chilean label Secret Society kicks off with a split 12" called Sheep that features a who's who of the current minimal scene. Kicking things off is none other than SIT, aka Cristi Cons & Vlad Caia, with the deeply rolling, superbly emotive and utterly hypnotic "Near Jam". Subtlety is the name of the game on Funk E & Luc Ringeisen's "Your House", with its simplistic bump and shuffle getting you stoned into the groove. Finally, on the flip we've got the downright creepy and paranoid "Juice & Bread" by Joaquin Lledo & Cleymoore; its chilling atmospherics and dubby low-slung groove are perfectly suited for sleep deprived Sunday afternoons while it's raining down at Club der Visionaere this Fall.
