  1. Aura (12" mix) (7:25)
Review: Since announcing their debut album on UK institution Ninja Tune earlier this year, Irish duo Bicep present the first single from the album in the form of title track "Aura". Said to have been created via a series of accidents while experimenting with a new studio setup, the track finally came together through trial and error and here is the wonderful result. A dark and sexy serving of dancefloor drama featuring 'hands in the air' style vintage synth melodies, life affirming strings and immaculate drum programming. It is sure to be one of 'those' tracks you're going to be hearing a lot of in the latter part of 2017 and beyond.

Review: Of all DJ duos currently operating in British dance music, Belfast boys Bicep might be the hardest to pin down (Optimo aside, of course). Certainly, this debut album is not easy to pigeonhole, though it is an enjoyably cohesive listen. This is largely down to two factors; the frequent use of deliciously colorful and loved-up synthesizer parts, and the duo's innate ability to utilize beats tailor-made for dancefloor devastation. So while keen dancefloor historians may notice sly (and not so subtle) nods to '89 rave, U.S house and garage, Italo-disco, late '90s progressive house, jungle and early British hardcore, the album never sounds anything less than a fine set of Bicep tracks. Expect it to be one of the biggest albums of the year.

  1. Bicep - "Mixxmaster 88"
  2. Casino Times - "Heart Strings"
  3. Medlar - "Cant Stop" (Creative Swing Alliance remix)
  4. Ishmael - "Want You"
Review: Given their illustrious rise over the past twelve months, the appearance of Belfast duo Bicep on the latest Wolf Music release is quite the coup for the London label. Artist and label are of course no strangers, with a Bicep dub of Medlar appearing WOLFEP009, yet there's currently a Midas touch style momentum driving Andrew Ferguson and Matthew McBriar that should ensure this 12" sells out even swifter than previous lupine plates. "Mixmaster 88" is an unadulterated party anthem and another ode to some of their heroes (spot the cheeky Armando usage) yet it's most memorable because it shows Bicep at their most confident. Further house music excellence is afforded with contributions from Casino Times, Medlar and newcomer Ishmael that ensure this is yet another all killer, no filler emission from the Wolf Music stable.

  1. Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka - "Kansas" (8:25)
  2. Bicep - "Closing Sequence" (6:03)
Review: Modeselektor always promised that their 50 Weapons imprint would cease operations once it hit a half-century of releases. Given that this is the much-admired 42nd release, it would seem that the end is nigh. Naturally, they'll keep dancing till the bitter end, and here present two tried-and-tested floor-fillers from Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka, and Bicep. The latter's "Closing Sequence" naturally doffs a cap to rave-era sweatiness, but boasts beats, melodies and electronic textures more reminiscent of the short-lived progressive breaks sound (look it up, kids). Damage and Daneeka, meanwhile, lay down a deliciously dubby, hypnotic chunk of Germanic tech-house built around bustling, bouncy beats, relentless organ loops and shimmering, swirling synthesizers.
