Deep House
  1. Inna Parte (6:19)
  2. X Ray Shit (5:41)
  3. Wiggle Eyez (5:19)
Review: The second release of the month from Arttu sees him draw again on classic house and techno influences. The title track draws on the reduced end of Chicago house, with frequency-shifting acid tones unraveling over pared back kettle-drums. "Wiggle Eyez" marks a change of tact and is similar to the release on Jack for Daze, with the Berlin artist drawing heavily on the raw sound of 90s techno to craft a relentless, grinding analogue workout. Closing track "X Ray Shit" is like an amalgamation of these two sounds; based on rattling drums and acid-soaked bleeps, it proves that Arttu is one of the most skillful modern interpreters of timeless music.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Next System
  2. Space Trippin'
Review: Since establishing the Arttu project with a couple of releases on Philpot, Finnish producer Arttu Snelman (who previously recorded as Lump) has really made a name for himself as a exponent of loose limbed bang the box house tracks for the likes of 4 Lux and Clone Royal Oak - The Jerry The Cat featuring "Nuclear Funk" for the latter label remains a Juno HQ favourite. It's great then to see Snelman return to Soulphiction's enduring label for this classy two track demonstration of the current Arttu style. Lead cut "Next System" has that loose percussive sensibility, with hi hats spraying liberally in various directions whilst Snelman goes freestyle on the keys. However it's "Space Tripping" that resonates most, coming across like Prince jamming with Ron Hardy.

Techno
  1. Lil Bob (5:15)
  2. Hoodies (5:13)
  3. Pressure (5:12)
  4. More Pressure (4:42)
Review: The wacky artist known as Arttu from Berlin has appeared previously on Clone sub labels Royal Oak and Jack For Daze as well as German minimal house imprint Philpot. Tough and bumping hardware driven house is the order of the day on Cyblo 001. On the A side there is the pummelling funk of "Lil Bob" and in particular the galloping cyclical minimalism of "Hoodies" which sounds like Robert Hood with a preference for overdriven 808s. On the flip "Pressure" has an odd Tropical flavour about it with its bassy broken beat and melody which sounds like Caribbean steel drums. "More Pressure" gets on with it in more straight ahead techno version.
