Needs 007
Needs 007 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: NNFP 007. Rel: 11 May 20
Deep House
  1. Telephones - "Groundshaker/Lightbreaker" (Pulse mix) (7:46)
  2. Ciel - "Faye Wong Plays The Strings" (6:19)
  3. Al Wootton - "Raphael" (5:44)
  4. Eliphino - "It's Hard To Say" (5:52)
Review: Charitable acts carry more significance than ever right now, and Needs are on hand with another instalment in their brilliantly curated series to give something to those in need while also presenting some wonderful, exclusive music. This one leads in with a truly uplifting blast of sunshine from Telephones before dropping into the edgy, swinging tech-funk of Ciel's "Faye Wong Plays The Strings". Al Wootton is on point with another of his fresh and dynamic twists on the soundsystem blueprint, with a dubby, percussive vibe that should appeal to those who miss proper dubstep. Eliphino completes the set with a squashed and feverish garage thumper that sounds like it has an iconic vocalist chopped up somewhere in the signal chain.

Snake Dance EP
Cat: LIVITY 041. Rel: 11 Nov 20
UK Garage
  1. Ender (4:39)
  2. Revin (6:14)
  3. Snake Dance (6:04)
  4. Lerzin (4:54)
Review: You can always rely on Livity Sound for the most superbly stripped back and skeletal rhythms. It's Al Wooton fka Deadboy who steps up now with a perfect collection of deadly, garage-inspired cuts. 'Ender' is a low end wobbler with lovely wooden hits and eerie pads while 'Revin' steps it up with a soulful vocal bringing some blissed out feels to the stark rhythms. The title track is a vast echo chamber of water droplets, tin pot hits drenched in reverb and atmospheric menace. 'Lerzin' sends you home on a more prickly and busy beat but still one where empty space and deft design still rules.
