Nervous Hydra (17:07)
All This Has Passed Forever (15:43)
Review: Ecstatic's latest long-playing release is a split affair, featuring a track apiece from Italian noise legend Maurizio Bianchi, and near mystical Serbian Abdul Mogard. It's the Italian who steps up first, delivering the 17-minute trip that is "Nervous Hydra" - a curiously spacey, out-there concoction that subtly slips from brooding, industrial inspired intensity to becalmed, soothing ambience in the blink of an eye. Mogard's piece is a little less challenging but no less enchanting, with slowly unfurling synthesizer solos, gently pulsing chords and windswept effects creating a touching, almost melancholic mood. It's a sublime piece of krautrock influenced ambient that packs genuine emotional punch.

Review: Those in the know know that Abul Mogard is a false identity. Whoever the entity behind Mogard is, we now know that Mogard has teamed up with CoH (Ivan Pavlov) following a chance meeting between the pair at a Slovenian festival in 2019. These two titans of drone-ambient now see the fruits of their labour unleashed to the private: gigadrones such as 'Find And Hold' are stratospheric joys, droning on and on through ambiences that change ever so subtly over time - these aren't just loops.

Drawing Water On Matching Teal Surfaces (16:53)
Review: An exciting meeting of two synaptic ambient minds, KMRU and Abul Mogard, both eminent figures in the genre, who first hooked up in 2020. With an aesthetic recalling early New Age Tapes, the yetmost result of their still-blooming friendship is this reissue of the originally KMRU-only album Drawing Water. A repetitious, dripping-wet work, we'll take the theme of water and run with it; from its opening three pieces by KMRU - which made up the original release - to the collaborative centrepiece 'Drawing Water on Matching Teal Surfaces' - which hears Mogard rework said pieces into one new interpretation - this album waltzes, falls, drips, reflects, hydrates, ripples, splashes, ebbs, flows, and meanders into new exotic-synthetic worlds.

Review: KMRU self-released the Drawing Water album in 2020 with three intriguing pieces of ambient laced with field recordings. It was a heartfelt work that tapped into the soundtrack of everyday life in a delicate and beautiful way and now it gets a special vinyl release on Vaagner. As well as the original record appearing in remastered form, the seance half of this edition features music from Abul Mogard, who has reworked layers from KMRU's original compositions into something new and equally captivating. It is a gradual unfurling of melodica and static, warm pads and suggestive rhythms that leaves you feeling deeply soothed.

Review: If you've ever wondered what the soundtrack to post-Brexit Britain would be, Abul Mogard is here to help. A couple of years ago, he was asked to provide a suitable soundtrack to an experimental film by Duncan Whitley that was filmed on the small island of Portland, off the Dorset coast, in the months following the 2016 referendum. Like the film, Mogard's score - created using modular synthesis, manipulated field recordings and layered organ sounds - is dark, atmospheric and inward-looking, offering a particularly bleak sonic appraisal of the United Kingdom's naval-gazing descent over the last few years. Musically, it's highly impressive and thoroughly absorbing, though we can't see Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson buying copies any time soon.

Review: Although Abul Mogard has made some stunning albums over the years, in recent times it's his reworks that have been celebrated most. It's perhaps for that reason that Houndstooth has decided to offer up this retrospective of the shadowy artist's most admired remixes. The most notable inclusion is the producer's previously unheard revision of Becoming Animal's "The Sky Is Ever Falling", a stunning, stretched-out soundscape that re-imagines the song as a heart-aching ambient epic. It's almost as good as Mogard's jaw-dropping interpretation of Fovea Hex's "We Dream All The Dark Away", whose fragile folk vocals, ever-intensifying modular synthesizer cycles and layered electronic drones deliver a stunning climax to an impeccable collection of inspired ambient soundscapes.

Review: Since his first ambient sketches started appearing in 2012 on the VCO Records label, we have been utterly transfixed with Abul Mogard's music. That's because it ain't no ordinary type of ambient; the enigmatic producer has a very clear sound and direction in his mind when it comes to something as abstract as this. Ecstatic herein compiles the best of his work thus far, capturing nine important and extremely alluring pieces of soundscape for the grey-scaled enthusiast. Pieces such as "Drooping Off" or "Post Crisis Remembrance" are different from each other, the former verging more towards orchestral noise and the latter a downbeat sort of melancholia, but the message is united and linear across them; it's one that evokes feelings of euphoria and perhaps even strikes a bit of fear into the heart, something that is inarguably powerful through the medium of music. Excellent and recommended.

Review: The Serbian representative of retirement synthesiser success Abul Mogard has a new release to impart which comes forth on Walls' own label Ecstatic. As with previous Mogard releases on VCO Records, there is a quiet, slow-burning intensity to this work, gently unfurling monstrous tones in a harmonious swell that manages to be both comforting and unsettling in the same stroke. With subtle processing at the heart of his sound, Mogard once again demonstrates just how powerful the right combination of signal paths can be at evoking strong emotions, using the most glacial sonic gestures possible as a throwdown to an impatient age.

Abstract Painting 104-105_7#02 (7:50)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Schleissen 1 marks the beginning of a major, four-part project from Stuart Leath's Emotional Response label; an in-depth exploration of the "outer reaches" of drone and ambient. It's a grand scheme, highlighted perfectly by the grandiose scale of Serbian maverick Abul Mogard's opener - a hypnotic, 19-minute exploration of modular drone music that's as freaky as it is beautiful. Stefan Schwander dons his now familiar Harmonious Thelonious alias on the flip, laying down two brilliantly melodious synthesizer pieces inspired by the cyclical compositions of acclaimed minimalist composer Steve Reich. Both pieces are borderline stunning, and more than worth the admission price.

Waking Up Dizzy On A Bastion (19:09)
Review: Ambient legends Abul Mogard and Rafael Anton Irisarri team up for new album Impossibly Distant, Impossibly Close. Unfolding naturally after being booked to play at the same show in Madrid in 2023, the two ambient artists' dazzlingly warm, slow-progressing approaches to ambience fuse neatly together here. Just two long pieces, 'Piece Of Forever' and 'Waking Up Dizzy On A Bastion', titularly grasp at the theme of eternity, determinism, historical peaks and troughs: the supporting atmosphere is equally as impressively arresting, seeming to urge the listener to 'give over' and move with the flow of time, less than the flow of will. Such a paradigm shift can indeed serve to make distance and closeness seem irrelevant.

Review: On limited edition green vinyl comes the deluxe edition of Abul Mogard and Rafael Anton Irisarri's latest, two-suite full-length collaborative record, Impossibly Distant, Impossibly Close, released through Black Knoll Editions. This gut-wrencher of a record unfolded after a chance kinship following a show at which both ambient legends appeared. Despite this seemingly irreverent origin story, 'Piece Of Forever' and 'Waking Up Dizzy On A Bastion' are anything but throwaway, each entrancing the listener with up to 20 minutes per side of awestruck sonic bokeh and tidal dronework, producing an overall tactile and warm, fully audiophilic experience.

Waking Up Dizzy On A Bastion (19:09)
Review: On limited yellow vinyl comes the latest LP from the elusive ambient moniker known as Abul Mogard - impossibly distant, impossibly close - this time made in collaboration with equal and match, Rafael Anton Irisarri. Having made friends serendipitously at the sold-out opening of the SoundSet Series at Madrid's Condeduque cultural center in 2023, at which they performed together for the first time, the duo's encore that evening compelled them to get their heads down and commit to a collaborative studio session. What followed was an intense, modular-synthetic jam that, in its final studio-polished incarnation, unfurls and ripples like dark pond water. Both tracks, most notably 'Waking Up Dizzy on a Bastion', slow-burns into the heights of glory and tearful sentiment, as if capturing the feeling of time slowing down when confronted with death in the heat of fortressed battle.
