Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***
Aaliyah's second studio album One In A Million was the hitmaker that really cemented the teen r&b star's success, following her comparatively less popular debut Age Ain't Nothing But A Number two years earlier. Now reissued by Blackground - the very same label on which the album was originally released, and which was founded by Aaliyah's father Barry Hankerson, after he tried and failed numerous times to get her signed to a major - we once again recall Aaliyah's rise to fame, bottled in unforgettable numbers like 'One In A Million', 'Got To Give It Up' and 'If Your Girl Only Knew'. This new version comes pressed on translucent green vinyl and includes an insert.
Review: There was a big fuss made when Aaliyah's music finally made it to streaming services late last year, which shows just how in demand it remains over a quarter of a century after it first hit record stores. Her self titled long player was an early and frankly just about unbeatable blueprint for r&b that has more than stood the test of time. With guests posts from Static From Playa and Timbaland she opened up on all manner of subjects from rejection to love, personal anxiety to better times. The slick production still sounds fresh, as does the timeless vocal work.
Heavy D & The Boyz - "Don't Curse" (DNA edit) (4:41)
Review: You have to liov these 45s that elegantly bridge the lineage between the original and the sampled while also highlighting hip-hop and r&b, showcasing the seamless interplay that defined the 90s. On Side-1, 'Back & Forth (DNA Edit)' gets a UK remix treatment from the legendary DNA crew, amplifying the track's smooth groove and youthful energy, silky vocals and laid-back charisma shining even brighter under the remix's refined production.. Side-2 features 'Don't Curse (DNA Edit)', transforming the posse cut into a sharper, more rhythmically dynamic experience as playful, feelgood verses and the crew's lyrical finesse are elevated by the remix's polished beats.
