  3. Serena Butler - "Fertile Fancy" (3:50)
  4. Estrato Aurora - "Icnita" (7:21)
  5. Vera Logdanini - "Vplanet" (6:53)
Review: Following fine EPs from Healing Force Project and Mesak in 2017 and 2018, On Board Music flips the script on its first and only vinyl release of 2019. "Point A" is the Berlin-based label's first mini-compilation and it's well worth a listen. Lanoche kicks things off via a spot of ultra-deep dub techno/ambient techno fusion (the wonderful "Love Fall", before Yugen doffs a cap towards the hypnotic, synthesizer-driven sound of late 1970s Krautrock on the suitably cosmic "Phantom". Serena Butler's "Fertile Fancy" is an immersive drift through enveloping ambient, Estrato Aurora's "Icnita" a bubbling deep techno epic and Vera Logdanini's "Vplanet" an acid-flecked trip into locked-in electronic hypnotism. In other words, this is a very fine collection of cuts.

  1. Nice (6:01)
  2. Candid (7:45)
  3. V1b1n' (3:32)
  4. Nttt8 (7:06)
Review: Light of Other Days is a Zurich based record label. After great releases previously by Miajica, label boss HOVE and ETHIMM, they now present this lush EP by label co-founder Le Frere. Slow Glass is not only the debut release by him, it is also a very personal diary of the last two years of his life. All four tracks are based on recordings, samples and ideas he collected while travelling the world. With this concept in mind, he tried to catch moments of his life without stripping them of their dynamic and evanescence. Retro tinted ambient journey's for fans of labels like Antinote, rich in celestial FM synthesis and saturated VHS quality offered up here for the most part, with the exception of the lively slow burning groove of "Nttt8" which closes out the EP in style.

  1. Barreras (Powder remix)
  2. Cuando Rocio Dispara Sus Flechas (Suzanne Kraft remix)
  3. Posmeridiano (Hatchback remix)
  4. Ukraina (Zavoloka remix)
Review: Cocktail D'Amore showed the breadth of their tastes when they reissued Ukranian composer Iury Lech's 1990 album Musica Para El Fin De Los Cantos last year. Now the label has commissioned a raft of remixes from some label regulars, with wonderful and diverse results. Powder drops her signature snaking rhythmic trysts over "Barreras", while "Cuando Rocio Dispara Sus Flechas" benefits from an abstract, ambient reworking from Suzanne Kraft. Hatchback takes to "Posmeridiano" with a delicate touch, all lingering 80s synth motifs in a beatless reverie, and Zavoloka lays the cinematic intensity on heavy with the icy strains of "Ukraina".

  2. Scanner - "Mothlit" (6:42)
  3. Ross 154 - "Eath To Our Freinds" (8:03)
  4. Leo Anibaldi - "Crion" (5:10)
Review: De:tuned are in the midst of a 10 part anniversary series, and this latest missive - the seventh in all - brings together a hefty selection of talents old and new on heavyweight vinyl. Jonah Sharp opens things as Spacetime Continuum and continues to fuse ambient, techno, and IDM on the absorbing cosmic adventure that is "Only One Sky." Scanner's "Mothlit" slows things down with a hip hop instrumental from outer space, and then the beats disappear altogether on Ross 154's suspensory ambient cut "Earth To Our Friends." Lastly, Leo Anibaldi's "Crion" will make your skin tingle with its deft and delicate melodies which float about like fireflies and leave gorgeous, glowing trails in their wake.

  1. Mono No Aware (18:19)
  2. Selva Oscura (19:32)
Review: Experienced experimentalists William Basinski and Lawrence English have long been friends, growing closer over the last half-decade thanks to a string of chance encounters in cities around the globe. Finally, they've joined forces on their first collaborative set, an album that was reputedly "simultaneously recorded in Brisbane and Los Angeles". It's a thing of beauty, with both of the long, poignant and slowly shifting ambient cuts being tinged by melancholy brought on by the loss of their mutual friend, experimental filmmaker Paul Clipson. Like "Selva Obscura", Clipson's work celebrated the act of getting lost in experiences that lie beyond everyday understanding.

Review: The latest transmission from Emotional Response's ever-essential Schleissen series takes a trip to the Fourth World with Jon Keliehor on the A side. There's no denying the influence of Jon Hassell on tracks like opener "Serpent In The Sky," but Keliehor channels those exotic notions into some truly captivating music that is all his own. From chiming tones to purposeful percussion, his sound is a rich and evocative one, beautifully recorded and artfully composed. On the other side, Lord Of The Isles indulges his ambient side to great effect with no less than seven vignettes of varying moods and energies, all played out through delicately handled synthesisers.

Review: It's been seen years since ambient maestro Jonny Nash realised with Kyle Martin as Land Of Light. This return is a glorious one, however, and was written and composed over the course of two years. It is a fantastically spacious record that places you in the middle of the stereo field as acoustic instruments, contact microphones and Martin's self-built modular synthesiser all add timbre, texture and tone to the mix. Organic yet otherworldly, it is music that soundtracks a beautiful void and will leave you feeling utterly replenished over the course of eight subtly majestic and absorbing tracks.

Review: It would be fair to say that a vinyl edition of "Celestial Realms" has been a long time coming. The one-off collaboration between new age musician Jonathan "Lyghte" Goldman and cult ambient artist Laraaji was originally only released on cassette. As Laraaji's reputation has rocketed in recent years, demand for the hard-to-find tape has risen - hence this first vinyl reissue. It comprises two long, fluid and laidback compositions built around slowly shifting ambient chords, delay-laden zither textures, subtle bell melodies, occasional guitar solos and meandering synthesizer lines. Both tracks are wonderfully blissful and calming, suggesting that they're best listened to while lying flat on your back.

Review: n5MD is an independent record label based in Oakland, California. The label primarily focused on electronic music, but also now releases music in compatible genres such as shoegaze, post-rock, IDM and electro-acoustic. Last Days debut, 'Sea' told the story of one man's journey. Now with his fifth album, Graham Richardson returns to the sea to examine a range of nautical vocations and exploits. Said to be inspired by shipping routes, Ernest Shackleton's ill-fated voyage on the Endurance, to families being disjointed and reunited; the Seafaring LP goes some way to hint at what the oceans present to us. It reflects on it's subject matter by coherently linking moments that are minimal and still, to those that are compelling and cinematic and will be the first Last Days album pressed on vinyl.

Review: Five years on from the label's first 12", Whities has finally decided to offer up an album. It comes from Leif, an artist whose output has consistently been getting deeper and more downtempo the longer his career has progressed. "Loom Dream" is a fine set, with the Freerotation regular effortlessly mixing and matching gentle off-kilter rhythms, drowsy ambient chords, claustrophobic aural textures, bubbly melodies and fluid, effervescent electronics. There's much to admire across the six tracks with highlights including the humid, glassy-eyed tropical bliss of "Myrtus", the hypnotizing, Steve Reich style marimba minimalism of "Rosa" and the slow techno creep of "Borago".

Review: Kerry Leimer, or simply known as K. Leimer, has been at the forefront of the West Coast ambient / drone game since the mid-'70s, and it's a good thing that Vinyl On Demand has decided to compile a comprehensive amount of his work, because the original material is hell to find in its original format. The Germans have put together a vast amount of his sound sculptures from the years 1977-1980, the formative period of his Palace Of Lights imprint. This is a wide-eyed journey into sound and subtle sonic shifts, a veritable excursion from start to finish, and although the mood is relatively placid throughout, you'll find many tracks that verge on lo-fi pop, and bittersweet psychedelia. We love it, and we think that anyone who doesn't know this guy should start indulging as soon as possible!

Review: Kerry Leimer, or abbreviated simply to K.Leimer, is an influential experimental music composer whose work dates back to the late 1970s - and probably even before if we're talking off the catalogues. The majority of his work over the years has been released on his own enigmatic Palace Of Lights label, but they've been difficult releases to get hold of on the second-hand market. That's why this reissue of 1980s Closed System Potentials is such exciting news for us - his third LP and perhaps one of his finest and most cerebral moments. Describing this music as ambient is fair on one hand, but all the music across this LP does much more than just create a mood. Angelic sequences of electro-acoustic sounds on songs like "Steady State" and "Stationary Image" are deep, magical and perfectly capable of sending a clear message to the listener. This is a beautiful album, and its one that you shouldn't miss.

Review: While American ambient pioneers and electronic experimentalists Kerry Leimer and Marc Barreca have collaborated before, "Chains Of Being" is not a collection of studio hook-ups but rather a split album where they handle a side each. Leimer offers up a triptych of tracks on side A, drifting between droning, meditative collages and the kind of gently unfurling ambience that has long been his trademark. Barreca's tracks were apparently inspired by the "peaceful interior ambience of Spanish cathedrals" and are a little more contemplative, mixing intergalactic electronics with evocative cello and violin movements. Both sides are superb.

Review: Since 2001 Scott Morgan has released a wealth of material, largely on his spiritual home of Kranky as well as in legion with Destroyer and Thee Crusaders. His thirteenth Loscil album is another serene body of work that deals in harmonious tones, picking up the baton from the likes of Fennesz and seeking to express such melancholic orchestrations through a unique set of voices. Indeed there are human vocal tones within the processed drifts of melody that mark out Sea Island, but they're on a level pegging with anchorless synths and subtle peaks of interference that mark out the character of Morgan's particular kind of ambience.

Review: Sound designer turned ambient explorer Scott Morgan is one of Kranky's longest-serving artists. He first appeared on the American label under his now familiar Loscil alias way back in 2001. Monument Builders is his eleventh solo full-length, and sees him effortlessly flitting between icy, slow-burning ambience, analogue soundtrack salvos (see the John Carpenter-ish "Red Tide", a bubbly blast of Cold War paranoia), cinematic tension-builders ("Straw Dogs"), throbbing, post-drone soundscapes ("Anthropocene"), and bittersweet mood pieces (the melancholic brilliance of "Weeds"). As you'd perhaps expect from a man whose day job involves scoring computer games, the album is hugely atmospheric and immersive.

Review: Since joining the label at the turn of the millennium, Scott Morgan AKA Loscil has become one of the admirably experimental imprint's most prolific artists. "Equivalents" is Morgan's ninth album for the label and sees him offer up eight meditations on a hazy, spaced-out theme. It's a slow-burn affair, where processed melodic elements, held-note chords and drone style aural textures slowly move across the sound space. It's a formula that guarantees goodness from start to finish, with the pulsing "Equivalent 3", ghostly "Equivalent 6", Mr Cloudy-esque "Equivalent 2" and the becalmed and poignant "Equivalent 8" standing out.

Review: Raul Lovisoni and Francesco Messina's seminal LP from 1979 Prati Bagnati Del Monte Analogo not only introduced the world to the work of two gifted composers, but is also notable for being produced by electronic pioneer Franco Battiato. Both central figures within the Italian avant-garde, they were part of a generation of artists who contributed to a radical rethinking of musical practices and composition. They reveal Minimalism as it's rarely known: with delicate melodies, subtle harmonic interplay and incorporating diverse creative traditions - slowly giving way to an ever-expanding open space. Skirting the outer edges of ambient, new age and experimental music, the LP has a transformative beauty unlike anything else.

Review: Dutch minimal techno hero Koos "Ion" Ludwig teams up with multi-instrumentalist Twan Sallaerts to present a collection of experimental and electro acoustic ambient journeys on this one for Berlin-based label Meander's Horizon Pi Series. Ludwig's singular sound is recognised by his penchant for all things esoteric and hypnotic, and although this is a non-dancefloor affair he still manages to channel that aesthetic into this collection of tracks, by way of Sallaerts' competent classical know-how on "Entre-Acte". The title track's mesmerising use of sparse melody and disorienting pads over a slow motion / skeletal drum groove is almost just a pitched-down version of Ludwig's usual work when you think about it, while the droning tension and suspense of the atmospheric "Towaknos Carpet" is much more of a departure. Elsewhere, free jazz and film score aesthetics collide on the moody "C.A.T. Track" and the cavernous and glacial ambient textures of "Ijsselzand" only add to the many moments of introversion offered here.
