Review: Mad About Records is back with another essential double dose of Latin funk with this limited edition 7" from Los Sonidos De F.M. and Sola. 'Tema De Los Adolesentes' kicks off on the flip with brilliantly lively samba keys and blasts of big horn energy next to more slinky and seductive lines. It's a true steamy dancer full of sex appeal while Sola take a different approach on the flip with 'Tabu.' This one is low slung and mischievous with its prickly rhythms and wet cymbals. Review: Matt Sewell is a number of things - author, artist, illustrator and curator of killer compilations - but until now 'Balearic producer' was not one of them. Sewell & The Gong is his new sunset-ready project, created in collaboration with fellow producer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Tate. The pair's debut EP is full of slow-burn, sun-kissed treats, with Sewell's acoustic guitar sounds providing a focal point throughout. They set the tone with gorgeous, pastoral-sounding opener 'Tonight We Fly' - a folksy, sun-soaked treat - before tiptoeing towards Balearic dancefloors with the throbbing and summery 'Passing oort Clouds'. Review: Miss Nixon and Jacqueline Fuijkschot originally got together for some jam sessions in a sweaty attic circa 2015, and wound up with a track called 'Run' which ended up on a 7" for Das Ding's Tear Apart Tapes. Since then, Hivern Discs have picked up on the track and brought it out of limited-run obscurity to give it a full 12" pressing with some expertly selected cover versions. The original is a threadbare slice of melancholic minimal wave, but Cucina Povera thickens the sound into a brooding slice of ethereal dream pop. Celine Gillain's version is poised and raw, in keeping with her own excellent Mind Is Mud LP. Dania completes the picture with a straining, yearning ambient abstraction of the original.

Review: After making an impressive turn on Wisdom Teeth last year, Okand Konstnar returns to Kimochi Sound with a new grip of bubbling, left-of-centre techno grooves for those who like things supremely dubby and dipped in stardust. There are discernible grooves coursing throughout this latest Shielding record, but the beats play second fiddle to nimble melodic lines and atmospheric ripples. Even on 'Indoors', the more kinetic thrum of the beat feels closer to a tonal synth part than a beat. 'Vinter' meanwhile invites us into a beatless realm where the synthetic organisms in Shielding's biome have the run of the place. It's deep, immersive techno existing on the fringes, where the most interesting things tend to happen.

Review: Lord Of The Isles's Dusk Delay label kicked off with a bang and now carries on with a canter as Kimochi Sound and Hanagasumi regular Shine Grooves takes control of the second EP. It's one of his best yet with 'Picture Of Mood' layering up perfectly dreamy ambient keys and pads over a supple and minimal rhythm that is suggested more than solidified. Review: Founded in 1984 by the German duo Peter Mergener and Michael Weisser, Software is a mind-opening project in downtempo, cosmic travels. Featuring two carefully selected moments from the band's rich output, 'Sun-Beam' and 'Present Voice', German label Thank You have brought Software's patient, contemplative sound to the fore. The A-side sends listeners far out of orbit with a generous, ten minute long arpeggiated shower, growing elegantly and by gradients into something truly transcendent. The B-side is equally as otherworldly - flecked with eerie moments this track veers between Balearic bliss and an undercurrent of unease. A fantastic and beautifully remastered window into Software's soundworld.

Review: To call Invito Al Cielo an experimental album kind of undersells just how experimental it is. It also suggests, to the uninitiated, that there's an album here in some shape or form. Of course, the definition of an album is open to some debate - does it need to have a certain number of songs on there? Or is it more about overall run time? Here we have two tracks running upwards of 20minutes (one touching on 30) and a bridge movement at a still-pretty-long six minutes, so take from that what you will. What's really important, though, is the contents. Sonic Youth had already established themselves among the loudest in rock 'n' roll, but also the most adventurous and explorative musically speaking. This outing marked the third in a series of releases on their own SYR imprint, a platform used to push the envelope even further. Masters at noise and walls of sound, much of what's here is proof of just how far you can take drone and refrain with subtle differentiations.

And here is the Allchival label with no fewer than six of them as the left-of-centre maestro adds his take to originals by Stano. His club mix of 'Room' is all spaced out and cosmic, then goes super slow and psychedelic with his snaking bass sounds on an Overdubble mix of 'Emma Wild & Whale' before Seance Of A Kondalike" (DJ Sotofett Newseance mix) picks up the pace but remains utterly psyched-out and intoxicating. There is still time for snaking dub techno and warped electronics on the remaining three sides.

Review: Miami's Greg Chin has been recording as Stryke since the mid-90s, exploring different shades of techno as a solo artist as well as working with Christian Smith and releasing on Ovum, Guidance amongst many other labels besides. re:discovery have dug into his archives and found a rare cut from a 1994 compilation on LA imprint Moonshine Records entitled 'Introspection'. Upon being approached about a reissue, Chin finally realised his original ambition for the piece and created two additional parts to make up a unified trilogy, lovingly pressed and sure to draw in all chill-out and ambient techno aficionados.

Kelly is always out to disrupt and subvert and does so with aplomb here as the a-side title track starts with a whisper but soon grows with layers of found sound, piano, percussion, and ethereal voices. It then collapses before reemerging with melodic and tonal guitars and pulses. On the flip, the same tune comes 'Revisioned' but is much more cold and distorted, edgy and urgent.

Review: Both "Corner Song" and "The Flying Man" were first featured on Tempelhof and Gigi Masin's second collaborative album, 2016's arguably overlooked album Tsuki. Both are naturally worthy of a single release, though, as they deserve wider recognition. Both are quietly beautiful, drowsy and hazily picturesque, with gently percussive opener "Corner Song" just edging out the beat-less brilliance of "The Flying Man" - in which Masin delivers a weary and heart-aching vocal - in the "best track" stakes. On the flip you'll find a radical re-interpretation of "Corner Song" by New York producer Jex Opolis, who wraps Tempelhof and Masin's glistening guitars around a wonderfully colourful and tactile Balearic boogie groove.

Review: Moscow-based deep techno artist Toki Fuko arrives on Russian label Luck of Access with three cerebral tracks forming his glittering new EP, 'Sanctum'. Starting with the expanding and contracting spaciousness of the title track, 'Sanctum', Korotaev allows space for reverberating synthlines to extend outwards, skittering into the distance across the pulsating core of the track, exploring a reflective space that feels at once private and collective. For the second side, everything slows down to a patient, meditative pace. Luxuriating in a moment of slowed breathing, 'Draft' unfolds in a series of exhaling atmospheres, delicately punctuated with strokes of light, glistening on the surface of a rippling body of water. The final track, 'Drift', moves downstream, driven by a winding ambience and decorated with flurries of unravelling organic percussion. At the heart of each of these tracks is a force that feels eternal, held in undulating patterns that continue long beyond their end.

Review: Composer, sound designer, musician, artist. Vienna-based Ulrich Troyer has a number of strings to his bow, all of which have played into a world-building process deeply rooted in dub and sound system culture. Releases on the likes of Deep Midi Musik are a good reference point for newcomers. Here, though, we're in less structured and formalised places, with two pieces - well, one and a bit - of abstraction waiting for you to get lost in. 'Track 1' certainly comes with the kind of low reverberations and effects that call to mind huge speaker stacks in smoke-filled places. But it's also kind of deconstructed journey, it harmonises distorted beats and rhythms with beautiful melodic motifs in a way that's as innovative and beguiling as it is instantly pleasing. Flip it to find something we won't even bother trying to define, a celebration of the remnants of that opening arrangement, perhaps.

Review: Josh Dahlberg is The Valley and the Mountain aka TVTM and is an artist who has made a big move recently from the deep westside of Detroit all the way across to the far reaches of the Pacific Northwest. He he arrives on Central Scientific for its inaugural release with Detroit-based producer and Akka & BeepBeep founder, Jo Rad Silver, taking care of the flip. Next to an array of hardware, there is plenty of improvisation with guitars in this EP - 'Experiment Obscura' is a widescreen and dramatic ambient cut with a meditative feel and 'Immersion Theatre III' is another empty but inviting piece with curlicues, wispy pads, distant guitar echoes and moodiness to spare.
