  3. Woman For A Day (Clandestino Dessert Trance remix)
Review: We have been patiently waiting for Pele to crop up on a release from the footy mad Rothmans, and what a time to play that card! Rothmans is back once again with his Aussie teammate Dawn Again, supported by a first appearance from Leeds legends Clandestino. EP opener 'Cobblejam' is nothing short of first class, a worthy and chugging Italo powerhouse that leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. The B-side finds us with the strangely named 'Woman For A Day', though there's nothing strange about the track itself, a deep and dark cut that slowly drives forward into the abyss. Finishing off the record is an excellent remix from the lads over at Clandestino, their 'Dessert Trance' vibe brings the record together as sweetly as Pele brought together that 1970 World Cup Winning team.

  1. A-Kraft (5:49)
  2. Transfer To Egypt (6:21)
  3. If Two By Drums (5:59)
Review: For their latest release, the Black Orpheus crew has delved into the archives of Deep Sided, a short-lived project from Darren Brandon that released two 12" singles at the turn of the millennium. The three tracks showcased here were first featured on a 1999 EP of the same name, albeit in a different order. A-side "A-Kraft" is particularly potent, featuring as it does a killer mixture of bumping, Chicago style bottom end and the mind-altering melodiousness of early '90s Italian dream house. On the flip you'll find "If 2 By Drums", a Chicgoan's take on the organ-sporting New Jersey deep house sound, and the sprawling deep house jazziness of "Transfer to Egypt", which originally opened the 1999 release of the EP.

  4. CDN - "Bonus Beat" (3:23)
Review: New Berlin beat-fusers FreiTanzPlatten levels up with another four-track fresh-talent package. Melting down the spirit of jungle, ghetto-tech and footwork with a strong dollop of b-boy, the whole package could just as well sit in a techno set as it could a drum & bass set. Leipzig's DJ DR-660 sparks up with a pace Godfather vibe, all Detroit and no graces. Thinh's "Yellow Balm" rolls with more of a jazzy rolling jungle haze while Shadow Moses's "Phreeks" goes turbo electro. Finally CDN wraps up with a fizzy, low-swung acid jam that wriggles with wily abandon. FTP smash it again.

Review: Brand new label from House Of Wax: Jupiter's Moon touch down with two highly sought-after rubs from the touchingly talented Djrum. Taking two meditative system smokers from London nine-piece The Drop, Djrum flexes in two distinct ways; "Looking To The Sky" gets an upbeat two-step twist that's not dissimilar to old Kromestar joints while "Takeover" wallows much deeper in the dubwise aesthetics as a slinkier two-step riddim bubbles beneath a much heavier bed of textures, pads and mbira. On dub since 2011 and still smouldering to this day, these are vinyl only and not likely to hang around. You know what to do.

  3. Drum Cypha - "See Through" (5:17)
Review: Cypha and Champa unleash the second Holotype vinyl special and it's a balls-to-the-wall situation. First up comes longstanding south coast junglist Dub One with newcomer Blatant and they're packing a detuned synth riff that could melt concrete 1992 style. Champa B follows with "The Cloak", a dark, warped-out roller with some really interesting processing and textures on drums and a mentasm that comes out of nowhere and seeps into your brain indelibly. Finally Drum Cyphya provides a dramatic finale piece with more hardcore synth tones, incredible drum energy and an arresting vocal that can, and will, see right through you down to the darkest corners of your soul. Gulliness.

Review: Since the launch of their 17 Steps label in 2015, the Dusky releases have come thick and fast. Able to put out whatever they want, whenever they want, the experienced duo has delivered a series of well-received EPs packed with original productions and/or headline grabbing remixes. In truth, as good as these were, few were quite as big as this sizeable three-tracker. A-side cut "Square Miso" - a peak-time anthem in the making full of thunderous drums, thrusting analogue bass, cut-up female vocal samples and life-affirming piano riffs - is particularly notable, while the "Reprise" of the same cut strips back some of the drums and emphasizes the wide-eyed piano riffs for extra dancefloor pleasure.

Review: On this expansive release, Zak "DVS1" Khutoretsky is not messing around. Over the course of two 12" records and a 10", the Minneapolis-raised producer delivers no less than eight late night techno workouts. With such a plethora of fine cuts to choose from, picking highlights is tricky. We're particularly enjoying the chiming, early morning roller that is "Decreasing", the Hoover bass-propelled madness of "Watchtower" and the bounding, rave-influenced stomp of "Coding", though the acid-fired wildness of "Rise" is also impressive. Arguably best of all, though, is "It's All About", an atmospheric, stripped-back techno shuffler full of delay-laden vocal samples and repetitive, dubbed-out electronic riffs.

Review: Debuts all round as young Swiss producer Ecar makes his bow on the freshly minted Royalties Rates Recordings label. It's an EP that not only shows great promise, but also contains a string of club-ready jams. He's in re-edit mode on the A-side, putting a house rocket underneath and woozy, synth-laden disco jam ("Diana", whose cascading synth solos are sublime), before delivering a throbbing, pitched-up version of a Quincy Jones produced electrofunk slammer. On the flip, you'll find more bustling, synth-heavy peak-time fare in the shape of acid-flecked stomper "Untitled Wave" and a wide-eyed, piano-sporting anthem seemingly inspired by rave-era warehouse jams.

Review: Brooklyn's SecondHand Records bossman Fatik lays down a wedge of powerful editry in the third volume of his Morgan Avenue imprint. Following dispatches from the don Nicky Siano and Osmose & byDesign, Fatik celebrates disco funk and soul in all their many deeply-dug shapes and forms. Ranging from the straight up floor pumps and gospel-level drive of "Every Night Venus Shines Bright" right the way through to the jazzier, hazier piano-snaking "Eddie Talk", all four tracks are subtly enhanced, retaining their OG power but charged for a modern day hoedown. Don't sleep on these.

Review: Having been spotted splurging out guttural techno mischief on Super Rhythm Trax and No Logo, G-23 gets invited to Torn Hawk's Valcron Video label with more of that deviant sonic behaviour to share with the world. There is sludgy bass, strangled acid and clattering percussion aplenty on lead track "Access Code", while "Bleep Shots" throws down hard and raw with an utterly sick mix of grotty drums and gnarled synth blots. There's a Mr Husk "unmix" of "Access Code" which adds some extra melodic strains into the melee, and then "ARS Trip" finishes the EP off with some end of days tone damage for anyone left standing.

Review: Marlon Hoffstadt is a Berlin based producer who's sure come a long way since his debut on local labels Stil Vor Talent and Keno; he now heads up the Retrograde and Midnight Themes imprints. For the new label of UK music website Ransom Note, he presents some lush retro referencing house on the Observing The Known EP. Starting off with the classic acid house vibe of "Floating" which is reminiscent of 808 State, we've then got the bouncy neon-lit sound of "ARP+" which gets a very Jamal Moss sounding remix on the flip by London based Scott Fraser (Crimes Of The Future). The balearic/tropical vibe continues on the sun-kissed and blissed out "Batavus" and we particularly enjoyed that chunky Juno bassline throughout.

Review: Yoyaku offshoot Hostom has enjoyed a successful 2017 so far. This is the matter-of-fact label's third EP of the year to date. As usual, there's no information about the producer (or producers) involved, or pesky track titles for that matter. The A-side is a pleasingly positive affair, with jaunty, tweaked organ stabs and woozy chords buzzing around a typically well programmed, on-point groove. The track gains in intensity throughout, with the heaviness of the percussion being ramped up in stages. There's more of a tribal feel about the B-side, with densely layered percussion underpinning hushed, stretched out chords and dark, trippy effects.

Review: Ricardo Rodrigues hasn't been active as Industrialyzer for some years, but if there was ever an occasion to revisit the uncompromising techno alias, a release on Damon Wild's legendary Synewave label must surely be it. The Portuguese artist goes in on "Analog Planet" with fearsome intent, serving up that Robert Hood-flavoured mechanized, weaponised loop goodness that gets the business end of the night shaking the way it should. "Multiple Walls" is a funkier affair with a playful organ line, but then it's back to the darkside with the devilish "Orbit X", rounding out an EP of no-nonsense techno like momma used to make.

Review: When the admirable Jazz & Milk label launched its 12" Jams series last month, it was with an EP that brought together label boss Dusty and long-time pal Sam IRL. For volume two, the latter has gone solo. In many ways, "You Don't Feel Enough" is an echo from the past, featuring as it does skipping, West London style broken beats, raw analogue bass and some killer jazz-funk instrumentation.
