  1. Persistence Of Memory 1 (7:22)
  2. Persistence Of Memory 2 (7:52)
  3. Persistence Of Memory 3 (6:31)
Review: Mysterious UK producer returns with more grey area perspectives, courtesy of Felix K's label. These three tracks lurk in the grey area: the space between techno and drum and bass. On the A side, the first version of "Persistence Of Memory" is a textured dub techno experiment, redolent of classic Basic Channel by way of Italian hypnotic techno sensibilities. A raw, brazenly analogue and bass heavy thumper represents the second rendition, much in the vein of Clone Basement Series or Livity Sound: keeping in mind that he appeared on the latter with his previous EP Jinx/Scanners earlier in 2017. The roaring B side cut shows a side of the producer not seen since his Jungle Crack EP last year. This is a pure techstep: late '90s style and calls to mind the early work of Trace or Ed Rush & Optical where this producer possibly returns to their roots.

  1. Faster - "Channel 1.0"
  2. Alex Font - "Cuentame Cosas Tuyas"
  3. Nu Zau - "Return"
  4. Alex Font - "Frentes Abiertos"
Review: Alex Font and his Acme label continue to champion the sound of Romanian electronic music with this second installment of Mis Hermanos Rumanos, following the excellent first turn with Sepp. Faster steps up first with the driving, chunky tech house sound of "Channel 1.0", threading subtle but snarling synth shapes through the straight-up drums with poise. Font gets deeper on "Cuentame Cosas Tuyas", using a whole lot of subby bass and pinging other crisp tones over the top of the mix. Nu Zau meanwhile keeps things decidedly hypnotic on the immersive "Return", and then Font finishes the EP off with the more fragmented sounds of "Frentes Abiertos".

  1. Eira (feat Byron The Aquarius) (6:12)
  2. Eira (demo mix) (5:37)
Review: From 4Lux to Ten Thousand Yen, Earl Jeffers has been serving up plenty of upfront good time house music over the past few years, as well as steering the equally on point Chesus alias. Now he sidles over to the new Melange label with Byron The Aquarius in tow, and the sun kissed vibes are positively pouring out of the record grooves. "Eira" is where Byron flexes some on-point melodic input, laying down ludicrously rich keys to ramp up the soul status of this damn fine garage-y bumper. The "Demo Mix" of "Eira" resides on the flip and shows off a more stripped down, raw version that's no less satisfying on the ears.

  2. Low Orbit Satellite - "Twilight Stealth"
  3. RV800 - "Lost Reality"
  4. Mick Welch - "Ornate Trails"
Review: Verdant returns for a second round to explore more of that tender space between house and techno where the original machine soul spirit of Detroit rings out in every synth chime. Just listen to Havantepe's "Phosphor" if you need further proof. Low Orbit Satellite equally deals in luscious layers of harmony, from the languid chords to the chirpy acid lines and beyond. RV800 has a more mechanical outlook on "Lost Reality", channelling a little classic bleep energy but with a modern minimal veneer. Mick Welch rounds the EP off with a sublime trip through mellow techno sounds on "Ornate Trails".

Review: It's landed! Two highly iconic and tricky-to-trace funk breaks from the 70s get the treatment from the mysterious new US series B Boy Funk Breaks. Blackrock's psychedelically twinged "Yeah Yeah" gets a slight shuffle and refocus while retaining the all the instrumental drama and swashbuckling drop that's led with JB-level bandleadership while the edit of Richard's People take us straight to church, front row centre. Again laced with another clean and killer break, this is powermove gold. Limited to 300 copies.

Review: John Shima is a Sheffield based producer who has appeared on a variety of underground labels since 2010. More recently he has gained attention from his work with Arne Weinberg as Fatal Tangent and a great EP on B12's Firescope this year where he served up some early 90s style IDM in convincing fashion. On his new Contact EP, the title track's emotive hi-tech soul calls to mind the early '90s output of Richie Hawtin & John Acquaviva's seminal Plus 8 imprint, while bouncy B side cut "Motion" is equally indebted to Detroit's second wave aesthetic with its celestial synths and funky rhythms channeling some Jupiter style jazz in the process. Released on Roman imprint Instruction, which has previously presented works by Berlin's Yoshi, Chicago's Hakim Murphy and NYC's DJ Spider.

SLEAZY made their recorded debut in April 2017 with the single Que Calor, released as a limited edition cassette at a party headlined by Helena Hauff in Montreal. Described by NPR as "...equal parts inviting and menacing" and Pitchfork as "playful and sensual... music made for the family home's basement - a soundtrack for all the salacious discoveries one might make in that damp, dark incubator."

Review: Brand new label from House Of Wax: Jupiter's Moon touch down with two highly sought-after rubs from the touchingly talented Djrum. Taking two meditative system smokers from London nine-piece The Drop, Djrum flexes in two distinct ways; "Looking To The Sky" gets an upbeat two-step twist that's not dissimilar to old Kromestar joints while "Takeover" wallows much deeper in the dubwise aesthetics as a slinkier two-step riddim bubbles beneath a much heavier bed of textures, pads and mbira. On dub since 2011 and still smouldering to this day, these are vinyl only and not likely to hang around. You know what to do.

Review: Debuts all round as young Swiss producer Ecar makes his bow on the freshly minted Royalties Rates Recordings label. It's an EP that not only shows great promise, but also contains a string of club-ready jams. He's in re-edit mode on the A-side, putting a house rocket underneath and woozy, synth-laden disco jam ("Diana", whose cascading synth solos are sublime), before delivering a throbbing, pitched-up version of a Quincy Jones produced electrofunk slammer. On the flip, you'll find more bustling, synth-heavy peak-time fare in the shape of acid-flecked stomper "Untitled Wave" and a wide-eyed, piano-sporting anthem seemingly inspired by rave-era warehouse jams.

Review: Rezonal is a vinyl record label run by eastern European talents Krypt & Leonidas. It focuses on releasing music with distinct and forward thinking electronic sounds. Fans of the hypnotic techno sound: from the classic days of Prologue or Zooloft will no doubt be fans of this duo's work and their label. The powerfully hypnotic peak time onslaught of A side cut "Unknown Frequency" calls to mind the work of renowned specialists Deepbass & Ness. On the flip, the droning "Traces" will have you surrendering to the void in no time with its tunneling and strobe lit Finally the slow burning power. of Looking For The Exit carries a Jeff Mills style orchestral arrangement, over a broken beat and is perfect mood lighting for the opening or closing of a set alike.

Review: Three years on from the release of his last Private Collection compilation, British jazz survivor Kev Beadle returns with a third selection of little-known "independent jazz" from the 1970s and '80s. As usual, it's a pleasingly varied affair with a clear dancefloor focus. Beadle, a man with an enviable record collection, variously showcases South American jazz-funk fusion (see Banda Metalurgia's fantastic "La Em Guayaquil" and Francisco Mara Catlett's thrillingly upbeat, "Brazilian Love Affair" style smasher "Samba De Amor"), Nat King Cole style smoothness (the Leon Thomas voiced "Little Sunflower" by Louis Hayes Group), dazzlingly positive extended workouts (Clarice Lebbe and Charlie Hampton), heavy percussion jams (Finn Savery Trio) and confirmed jazz-dance classics (the soul-jazz stomp of Webster Lewis).

There's naturally plenty to get excited about, from the piano-driven goodtime house grooves of Crackazat's floor-filling "What You're Feeling", to the boogie and jazz-funk inspired space-house of Opolopo's brilliant "Put Your Cap On". Review: Running Back Double Copy's second installment lovingly re-issues this house classic. The duo of Geoffrey Becker and Philippe Heinenonly only ever had a couple of releases on the short lived Brif Records: and this was the first. Originally released in 1998, right here is some timeless deep house that originally got lumped in with the whole French Touch scene of the time. "Akasha" (re-edit) is an evocative jam reminiscent of Pepe Bradock with its rising chords and tribal percussion really getting that sense of elevation happening. "Thank You Larry" (re-edit) is straight up deep house with diva vocals, as is "Let's Take A Break" (re-edit) but they really are an afterthought in comparison to that epic first offering, As label boss Gerd Janson said it best himself (regarding the original test pressing) "hopefully the Discogs haters won't get their knickers in a twist this time. It's old house music you fools!"

Review: Session Victim return to the Delusions Of Grandeur imprint with their third studio album. Listen To Your Heart is the result of a year of cross-continental scripting which started in their Hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in San Francisco's Room G Studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 LP See You When You Get There. Here is the second of three LP samplers. "Shadows" gets things rolling with a classic Session Victim groove, looped up pads and hooky spoken vocal samples. Next up we have "Unchained" which drops the BPM for a widescreen, slo-mo jam clouded in a smoky haze with jazzy touches, recalling the halcyon days of Pork Recordings. Flipping over we have a brand new LP version of previous single "Up To Rise", another sublime slice of blissed-out house music with a wonderful organic and live sound palette. Echoing Rhodes licks join the lead guitar tune for a Balearic beauty which will be stuck in your head long after the sun sets. Closing this second sampler we have "Over And Over", which winds things down somewhat for an inspired, bass-led roller.

Replacement stylus for M44G cartridge, ideal for techno/house DJs
Notes: The Shure N44G/N44GQ stylus is the replacment stylus for the Shure M44G cartridge. Shure are slowly but surely building up a dj customer base. These DJs will not use anything but shure cartridges and styli. The look is oldskool and the performance is groundbreaking, if you have not yet checked out shure products then now may well be the time. This particular stylus is rich, warm, tight, with high skip resistance and is decribed as being ideal for house/techno DJs.

Review: Bay Area retroverts Dark Entries have presented a few contemporary acts among all their eagerly awaited reissues. Solitary Dancer, Sumerian Fleet, Frank and Helena Hauff being just some. They now present Group Rhoda; the solo electronic music project of Mara Barenbaum. The Oakland based artist has appeared previously on fellow Californian imprints Night School Records and Not Not Fun. She is also one half of Max and Mara. 'Wilderless' is described by Josh Cheon and Co. quite eloquently as featuring 'tones of tropical darkwave and soft industrial, while negating the sound of conformity and control.' Maybe we aren't as deep into the scene to know what that is, but we can certainly vouch that it is modern coldwave and minimal synth that proudly wears the influences of antecedents such as Jeff & Jane Hudson or Deux on its sleeve.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: After the series of Caribbean related releases, Emotional Rescue returns to the early 80's Downtown NYC post punk / new wave scene with Plus Instruments - collecting their best and rarest songs on one groove laden EP. 4 tracks of pure Downtown punk-dub-funk, all with the nonchalant Euro-style delivery of Truus de Groot. It doesn't get better than this. Coming with extended unreleased versions, the originals were collected from sought after EPs, an obscure compilation LP and fiishes with a never before released song - this is history. Licensed and remastered for aural pleasure.

  2. Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti - "Aleluia" (3:52)
Review: Two silky sides of Brazilian disco soul on Mr Bongo's perennial Brazil 45s series. First up, long-haired lothario samba fusionista Marcos teams up with Leon Ware for a pristine polished piece of early 80s disco funk. Golden harmonies, staccato vocals and a super juicy bassline; it's not hard to see why it was his best selling single. Flip for the equally smooth "Alleluia" from Brazilian boogie gospelist; this one is all about the percussion heavy breakdown. Proper sunshine block party business.

  2. Fork In The Road - "Can't Turn Around Now" (2:27)
Review: The latest 7" missive from the Outta Sight camp features two more impossible-to-find rarities. On the A-side you'll find a storming chunk of horn-heavy, Hammond-rich funk from obscure US psychedelic band Mr Floods Party. Originally released on GM Records in 1971, the cut has long been an in-demand amongst Northern Soul collectors thanks to its stomping beat and impassioned vocals. Speaking of Northern Soul favourites, flip to the B-side for the greatest moment from short-lived Detroit soul group Fork In The Road. Originally released in 1970, "Can't Turn Around Now" is a thrillingly energetic workout full of heavy instrumentation, surging vocals and an even heavier backbeat.
