  1. Body In The Thames - "Silver Threaded Crystal Beads" (6:02)
  2. Peach - "Silky" (7:13)
  3. Jay - "Balsam Drum" (6:30)
  4. Webstarr - "The Muse" (7:02)
Review: Midland's Graded launches a new diffusion imprint: Intergraded. Featured here are four cuts from emerging producers. With Graded now focusing on the label boss's solo work and ReGraded catering to a different style altogether - the logical progression was to start a new label that could help introduce this music to a wider audience. Body In The Thames kicks things off on the A side - despite the name he's actually Swedish. His track "Silver Threaded Crystal Beads" is an emotive piece that sits somewhere between early Detroit techno and electro, in the vein of the Motor City godfather Juan Atkins. This is followed by the slinky tech house of "Silky" by London's Peach - a sturdy number supported by ethereal elements. On the flip, NTS host Jay (Siren) presents some moody, heads down techno for the late night on "Balsam Drum" while Yorkshire native Webstarr (De Grey/Mistry) goes deep into the afterhours on the darkly hypnotic "The Muse".

  5. Ascot/WW - "Alien Vision" (6:19)
Review: Saucer-eyed rave revivalists Tone Dropout can usually be relied upon to deliver the goods, especially if you're looking for sweaty, energy-packed slabs of warehouse ready techno, acid and electro. The label's latest missive is packed to the rafters with such giddy and forthright fare, to the bleeping, mind-altering insanity of Dawl & Sween's acid-fired throb-job "Laser Guided", to the "Bleep and Breaks" pressure of Samuel Padden's bustling "Quad Damage", to the stripped-back machine techno heaviness of Daif's similarly bleepy "Mysterious Freakin History". Elsewhere, the Ascot/WW track sits somewhere between early breakbeat hardcore and ambient techno, while Skywave Transmission v XOTR's "Warehouse 101" lives up to its name. Serious heat!

Dirty Dubstep/Trap/Grime
  1. Horse Mouth (5:19)
  2. Gunshot (4:01)
Review: Basic Rhythm man Anthoney J Hart has previously released a handful of fine albums and singles as East Man, most notably a couple of killer LPs on Planet Mu. In recent times he's decided to go it alone, pressing up 12" singles on the Hi Tek Sounds label he launched last year. This time round he's in full-on collaboration mode, with Hyperdub and Tectonic regular Walton joining him to lay down a pair of military strength club cuts. A-side "Horse Mouth" is a throbbing chunk of bass science, with the pair wrapping mind-altering analogue bass, creepy chords and occasional dub-wise vocal samples around a hard-wired staccato rhythm. This twisted take on dubstep is explored further on flipside "Gunshot", whose scattergun machine drums come bathed in oven-warm chords.

  3. JN/WL - "Cause Of Action" (5:39)
  4. Barbara Ford - "Frostbite" (6:56)
Review: Interesting things appear to be happening at base camp ClekClekBoom on the evidence of recent releases from Jean Nipon, Chaos In The CDB, and those Fred P and Chevel refixes of French Fries. The mutant brand of bass, techno, ghetto flavours and more that has characterised the Paris label seemed to have taken new shape on those records and continues here with this Various Cuts 12". French Fries teams up with NS DOS for the percussive burn of "8 Hours From Nation" which pulls from Chicago House and NYC ballroom but pushes in all new directions. From here CCB regular Aleqs NOTAL provides perhaps the deepest cut to appear on the label with "Mare Imb" whilst there are shades of Kassem Mosse in Jean Nipon's excellent "Cause Of Action". A label newcomer rounds out the 12" in style with Dutch producer Barbara Ford instigating a mesmerizing exploration of ocean deep acid in "Frostbite".

Review: The Ron Hardy edits and specials just keep on flowing. Here the theme is kept vibrant and wholly focused on disco funk feels as we're treated to three extensions from the late 70s; Mass Production's debut from 76 "Welcome To Our World" is a warm and energetic cut that digs right into the heart of the dance, Tony Silvester's "Cosmic Lady" is taken up a gear with full attention on the instrumental sections while Willie Hutch's "Foxy Lady" retains full smoke and allure. Hardy knew how to pick them.

  2. Sagarmatha (6:44)
Review: Fresh on the recently rejuvenated Utopia, Hydro & War are about to drop their powerful debut album "Lateral Thinking". And these are the first two tastes of what's to come. "New Territories" cuts straight the point; a gritty roller laced with layers of percussion, a high voltage bassline that's soothed by the glacial chords. "Sagarmatha", meanwhile, shows off the pair's more emotional side as it takes us to the summit with its breezy, spacious barbed soul charm. Bring on the album.

Review: Jenifa Mayanja continues on with her pursuit of spiritual deep house on her Bu-Maka Records imprint. This time by recruiting various artists in harmony with her labels mission statement. "Survive" by Introspective is all uplifting pads, sultry afro rhythms and restrained 303 squelch; sounds good enough right? Next up is "Double Thinking" by Berlin's Jay Mond, who goes for more of a Detroit, high tech soul exploration. On the flip we have "Track 3" by Sean Bird providing another raw and tight, yet smooth deep house cut. Finally "Dove Tales" by Wallflower channels the dreamy, early nineties aesthetic of Larry Heard.

  4. Will Saul & Kommon - "Two For One" (Appleblim remix) (6:29)
Review: As a follow-up to Will Saul's exclusive-packed - and generally well received - DJ Kicks set, !K7 has decided to reissue two of the most celebrated tracks, with fresh new remixes. On the A-side you'll find Jabru and Joel Culpepper's "Church" - a decidedly organic, soulful chunk of deep house/UK garage fusion - with accompanying Zed Bias rub. The UKG veteran gives it a bouncy, bassy two-step makeover, wisely retaining Culpepper's brilliant vocals. Flip for Will Saul and Komon's spacey "Two For One", where dreamy flourishes rub shoulders with throbbing electronics and delicate house beats. The remix is provided by Appleblim, who adds a new layer of percussive toughness - in a bruk-meets-two-step style - whilst retaining the warmth of the original.

  4. Vagabundo Club Social - "Sonico Amor" (7:41)
Review: Perhaps we should think of Whiskey Disco's Small Batch series as their attempt at "artisan disco". Certainly, the re-edits on show should have a few hipsters - and plenty of disco DJs - stroking their hirsute chins in appreciation. Dubtribe Soundsystem's Sunshine Jones kicks things off with the mid-80s synth-pop-goes-acid-house brilliance of "Lovergirl", while regular collaborators Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee doff a cap to Sly & Robbie and Larry Levan on the dub disco vibes of "Love Me Too". Those after some high tempo jazz-funk-meets-disco-house thrills should check Will Buck and PRTMNTO's "I Need Your Love". As for Vagabundo Club Social's "Sonico Armor", it's a hazy, dub-flecked Balearic disco delight.

  3. Jenifa Mayanja - "Night Walker" (6:57)
  4. Dakini9 - "Limbic Resonance" (6:15)
Review: The Sound Warrior label focusses on releasing music by female house and techno producers, an extended collection of women who share a similar vision of dance music. The label is run by Jenifa Mayanja and Dakini 9 - the latter being part of NY's Plan B imprint alongside DJ Spider - and the girls are back with two new faces for the label's fourth outing. Daniela La Luz's "Milkus" is a mid-tempo chugger with evil percussion and a funky chord hook, while "The Only" by Whim EE is darker, more deranged and of a lo-fi nature. On the flip, Mayanja's "Night Walker" is a tribal affair with a deep, growling bassline and "Limbic Resonance" by Dakini 9 is the hardest cut of them all, the certified techno head-nodder among the deeper tracks. Tough.

  1. Lou Lawton - "Knick Knack Patty Wack" (2:51)
  2. Walter Wilson - "Love Keeps Me Crying" (2:33)
Review: For their latest trawl into the world of rare soul and funk, Outta Sight has decided to reissue Lou Lawton's brilliant "Knick Knack Patty Wack", a punchy, horn-heavy and occasionally stomping 1967 cut that regularly changes hands for eye-watering sums online. Part of the appeal to collectors and DJs is the track's association with the British northern soul scene. The same could be said of Walter Wilson's "Love Keeps Me Crying", another 1967 recording that was only ever released in limited quantities as a "promo-only" 7" single. While not as sought-after as the Lou Lawton track on the A-side, its every bit as cheery and life affirming (despite the presence of rather melancholy lyrics above the driving Motor City production).

  4. Audino - "Venus Flytrap" (5:02)
Review: Eccentric imprint Les Points returns for the first time in 2018, bringing with it a quartet of cuts from "Various Xenopunks". Louh kicks things off with a fizzing, saucer-eyed techno shuffler that fixes classic electro chords and Motor City melodies to a bustling and forthright rhythm track, before Nicola Kazimir dips a mentalist, bass-heavy electro workout in modular distortion and a variety of mind-altering spoken word samples. Over on side B, Walid's "Posterior Spinneret" is a fine chunk of end-of-days electro with added foreboding noises, while Audinio's "Venus Flytrap" is the kind of wonky, acid-fired romp that would once have formed part of Rephlex Records' Braindance series of releases.

  2. Wroblewski Jazz Quintet - "Nana Imboro" (3:15)
Review: The 62nd single in Mr Bongo's long-running Brazil 45s series is notable for containing Jose Prates' "Nana Imboro", a deep, hypnotic and intoxicating samba cut that was initially recorded and released way back in 1958. Relatively slow and steady by samba standards, its chanted refrain is thought to be the inspiration for Jorge Ben's much better known "Mas Que Nada". Wisely, Mr Bongo has backed Prates' sublime original with a 1960 cover by obscure Polish outfit Wroblewski Jazz Quintet. This dispenses with the chanting, instead increasing the number of intertwined horn parts. Given that original copies of the rare Polish EP it first appeared on will set you back serious money, it's great to see this fine cover included here.

Review: Following the recent dip into the Theo Parrish archives that was The Twin Cities, Phil Weeks' Robsoul imprint looks to another one of Detroit's adopted sons in the form of Rick Wade. Like that recent Parrish reissue, Weeks re-releases another three tracks from Wade's bulging discography. The upbeat disco loops of "Players Theme" was originally released on French label Funky Chocolate in 2002 and still sound fresher than anything being plied by the Soundcloud dwellers today, while "Can't You See" from 2003 provides a more soulful take on house music. On the flip, the tracky funk and cascading string melodies of "I Feel Good" originally graced Wade's own Harmonie Park imprint in 1998, but sound no less vital today. Essential.

Review: The peeps behind the People Of Earth label claim that Rick Wade is on top form on their latest release. While that's undoubtedly true, the Detroiter has incredibly high standards and rarely puts out anything mediocre. The four tracks here are all deliciously deep and fluid, with the Fender Rhodes solos, meandering organ lines, warm bass and chunky beats of "Never Give Up" delivering just the right blend of instrumental goodness and dancefloor-ready weightiness. "Seen At Night" is an even deeper and hazier treat, while "Forever Alone" sees Wade wrap bongo-laden beats and eyes-closed electric piano chords around a ludicrously warm and heavy bassline. Solo-laden closing cut "Rooftop" is also superb - a proper sundown selection of the highest calibre.
