Review: Easily riding the hypewave of their infamous album The Infamous, Mobb Deep (Prodogy and Havoc) released the almost hilariously identical follow-up album 'Infamy', still to critical acclaim, on December 11th 2001. Topping up the original black vinyl pressings which first appeared on Loud Records, this new version from Get On Down comes to limited edition 'marbled copper' vinyl. It's clear all the block hustlin' and stack counting paid off.

Review: Hank Mobley might not be so well known among the greats of saxophonic jazz, but that probably boils down to him making No Room For Squares. Indeed, only the coolest of the menthol-cool were permitted access to this album and Mobley's performances at the time of its release; this was undoubtedly a self-selecting process ensured by the garnering of some of the hottest talents of the day on band duties, including Herbie Hancock on piano, Donald Byrd on trumpet, and Butch Warren on bass. Moving like an effortless meandering current slinking downstream, the six tracks on this vinyl reissue put on effortless instrumental airs.

Review: Blue Jazz's on going Tone Poet Series - which is about reissuing classic jazz on heavyweight, audiophile quality vinyl - throws out another gem here with the Hank Mobley classic Soul Station. Hank started out as a pianist before moving to the tenor sax aged 16. He put plenty of emotion and intensity into every note he played and during the years 1955-1970 he fronted more than 25 Blue Note albums as well as being a sideman on many others. This record captures him at the peak of his powers with a lyrical playing style and length, passionate solos.

Review: Hank Mobley is best known as a legendary jazz saxophonist but he actually started as a pianist before moving to the tenor aged 16. His quartet saw him join up with the likes of trumpeter Art Farmer, bassist Doug Watkins, pianist Horace Silver, and drummer Art Blakey. This self-titled album came in 1951 and was remastered in 2008 by the one and only Rudy Van Gelder. Though not the most creatively challenging album for hardcore jazz heads, this is a rewarding listen where Hank shows the mastery of his instrument and plays with freedom, confidence and conversational flow.

Review: Few jazz saxophonists were as majestic as Hank Mobley. He had a unique sound that sat in between the rawness of John Coltrane and the smoothness of Stan Getz and released a number of now-classic albums. Soul Station has already had the Tone Poet Series treatment and next up to get remastered and come on new audiophile vinyl is A Caddy For Daddy. He had already been a But Note artist for some 10 years when he recorded this one in 1965. It finds him alongside a first-class sextet with Lee Morgan on trumpet, Bob Cranshaw on bass, McCoy Tyner on piano, Billy Higgins on drums and Curtis Fuller on trombone.

Review: Hank Mobley was a magnificent jazz saxophonist who struck a smooth tone somewhere in between the snarl of John Coltrane and the dulcet purr of Stan Getz. This album was originally recorded in 1957 and released as The Hank Mobley Quintet Featuring Sonny Clark in 1984. It features Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Sonny Clark on piano, Jimmy Rowser on bass and Art Taylor on drums, and it serves as a perfect, mellow trip through the hard bop era. It's also long overdue a repress after last being available in limited quantities back when the 1984 issue first came around.

Play, Moby, Ambient and Everything Is Wrong had all made a splash, and by 2002 the artist, real name Richard Melville Hall, was seeking to broaden his horizons. Review: In recent years, numerous high-profile rock artists have delivered dramatic orchestral interpretations of their greatest hits, though Moby may be the first electronic artist to try it. Reprise, his 18th full-length excursion, is not fully neo-classical despite the involvement of the Budapest Art Orchestra - there's also a more traditional rock and pop instrumentation - but it does largely steer clear of the electronic beats, sounds and samples that have traditionally been his stock-in-trade. The results are largely very impressive though, with the assembled cast delivering especially good interpretations of such classics as 'Porcelain' (with Jim James), 'Natural Blues' (whose gospel-inspired lead vocals by Gregory Porter and Amythyst Kiah are spellbinding) and his turn-of-the-90s breakthrough hit, 'Go'.

Review: Following the runaway success of his first fully orchestrated album, 2021's Reprise, Moby returns to legendary classical imprint Deutsche Gramaphon with a second set of sweeping and soaring covers of tracks from his catalogue. This time round, he's limited himself to covering tracks he originally recorded and wrote in New York between 1994 and 2010. It's a successful exercise all told, with some of his best-loved and most impactful songs sounding even more joyous thanks to a canny combination of electric guitars, funk-fuelled organic grooves (there's little in the way of electronic instrumentation), a choir and an orchestra. Vocals are provided by a genuine who's who of stars and talented newcomers, including Kaiser Chiefs' Ricky Wilson, sensational soul man Gregory Porter, Lady Blackbird and Nicole Scherzinger.

Review: Since opting to release more music under his given name, DeepChord man Rod Modell has largely stuck to dubbed-out ambience and heady drone soundscapes. His latest full-length is a little different, though, offering up club-focused cuts that mix his usual fuzzy aural textures and dub-fired motifs with up-tempo techno rhythms. By his standards, it's a very forthright set, with highlights including the noise-soaked stomp of "Reiki", the thrusting heaviness of "ITO", the hypnotic slam of "Jade" - where breezy, early morning electronics flutter away above tough drums and a mind-altering bassline - and the boisterous peak-time techno anthem "Scrawler".
