Review: King Tubby's Rastafari Dub was mixed at the celebrated studio wizard's own famous self-titled studio and finds him working on tunes by the Striker Lee-produced likes of Wayne Jarret's 'Satta Dread', several tunes from Johnny Clarkes such as 'Crazy Baldhead' and 'Peace & Love In The Ghetto' as well as Leroy Smart's 'No Love' and 'Trying To Wreck Up My Life'. Add in further gold such as Black Uhuru's 'Sun Is Shining' and you have one of the many crucial and essential albums from King Tubby that needs to be in your collection.

Review: One person who surely never dubbed too much was the prolific and pioneering King Tubby, but that hasn't stopped Patate Records from putting together a third volume of his work with that sub-title. All of the 12 tracks on this release are classic, rare and/or unreleased and they were ll produced by the man himself in the late 70s during the gold age of the genre. Rodguel Sinclair aka Blackbeard is the producer of the material and his backing band The Ring Craft Posse, which included noted reggae heads like Sly & Robbie, Family Man and Carlton Barrett, all feature next to some of the era's finest vocalists - Delroy Wilson, Horace Andy and Johnny Clarke amongst them. Basically, this is as authentic and essential a collection of 70s reggae as you can get.

Review: Kyle Thomas is the name of the singer-songwriter who records and performs as King Tuff. During the pandemic lockdowns he had something of a realisation about who he was and what he wanted to be and then "set out to write a love letter to those cherished moments of inspiration and to the small town that formed him," namely Brattleboro, Vermont. This is that love letter and it is an album of musical magic with uplifting and spiritual joy found in every hook and verse. There are gorgeous orchestral tones, tender moments of violin and cello and plenty of thoughtful sax lines on a gem of a record.

The pop rock queen includes the likes of 'Crying in the Rain' from early 1962 right up to several 1971 tunes from her hit album that year, Tapestry. A must have for fans old and new.

Review: Where do you start with Carole King? Review: Milwaukee soulboys Kings Go Forth formed in 2007, and recorded The Outsiders Are Back three years later as an implicit paean to the increasing outsider status of soul music over the years. As might be expected for a band working in a style whose subculture was out of fashion - not least in Milwaukee - the "outsider" status was surely earned. Lead members Andy Noble and Black Wolf handled its songwriting and composition; inspired by classic soul and funk sounds of the 60s and 70s, the ten-tracker flaunts a ten-piece band to match, with horns, percussion, and vocal harmonies playing out in an unmistakably buzzing fever-pitch.
