On this second, more expansive sampler for his forthcoming album Spaces & Places, Kerri Chandler treats us to tracks inspired by - and by the wonders of mobile recording technology, produced inside - clubs including Dublin's District 8, Glasgow institution Sub Club, Lux of Lisbon and NYC's Output. Of course, the standard is uniformly high throughout - it's classic Chandler from start to finish - but our picks of a very fine bunch include the soulful piano house shimmer of 'Change Your Mind', the thrusting, bass-heavy pump of 'Subbie (Rattle The Subbie Mix)', the effortlessly slick and soulful 'Tenacity (Full Vocal Mix)' and the ludicrously sub-heavy snap of 'See The Light (Dub)'. To borrow an old cliche, this is very much, 'all killer, no filler'.

As part of the 2016 Ghent Film Festival, the first ever 'greatest hits' album for Ryuichi Sakamoto's soundtrack work was released. This retrospective LP compiles the best selections from the entirety of his career, from Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence to The Revenant. Now reissued 5 years later by Silva Screen, the album sees a wider, exclusive white vinyl edition, capturing the swelling pangs endemic to Sakamoto's music for screen.
German trio Silent Circle are perhaps not that well-known in the UK, but throughout the 1980s they were stalwarts of the post Italo-disco "euro-dance" scene. This tidy 12" delves into the early period of their recording career, pairing 1985 debut single 'Touch in the Night (Crash Version)' - a bubbly chunk of new-wave, Italo-influenced synth-disco that reminded us of Bobby Orlando's productions from the same period (think strong male vocals, chugging arpeggio bass and bold lead lines) with two versions of the glossier 'Stop The Rain in the Night' from 1986. The 'album mix', which boasts a more polished production than the A-side, reminded us a little of the first Pet Shop Boys album, Please, while the 'No Rain Mix' is a little more dancefloor-focused and groove-driven.

Omni Am - New York Sessions (reissue)
Taking flight from London and beelining straight for New York in 2000, Omni a.m. brought a range of influences with them on releasing this EP. Reflecting this intense paradigm shift and culture shock, the New York Sessions are a moody and intense collection of tunes, spanning the minimal house basses of 'Buckshot', the undulous analogue delays of 'I On U' and the closing clacks of 'Sick Sense'
Octave One - Patterns Of Power
Fresh from exploring the more downtempo side of their musical inspirations on Contemplate (a mini-album credited to Octave One presents Never on Sunday), the Burden brothers return to the dancefloor with their first full-throttle techno release of 2022. A-side 'The Blue Drift' is faintly foreboding, with typically intergalactic lead lines rising above a moody, sci-fi-fired Motor City techno groove. While it very much sounds like an Octave One release - with low-end weight to match - it's arguably more atmospheric and clandestine-sounding than much of their most celebrated material. They continue with this vibe on the more dense and percussive flipside cut 'It-Just-Is', a sweat-soaked affair full of metallic-sounding percussion hits, echoing melodic refrains and breathless sub-bass.

Flowers On Monday - Pirates Of The Sun
Subtle deep, future house from Flowers On Monday, who here release their 4-track EP 'Pirates Of The Sun' on In Waves. Gradually unfurling and recalling the likes of Kiasmos, Bonobo or HAAi - but with an extra vocal flair - the tracks are synaesthetic and stooped piano-ambient, with organic sounds stretched and layered as sonic beds behind the beats. A favourite, 'Secret Place', affectionately blends triplet organs with a driving beat.
Facundo Mohrr - Deja Vu
Facundo Mohrr is a staple of the Argentine prog house scene, and he has a considerable catalogue of digital releases behind him. In addition, he also has the pinnacle of his career to date - La Espere - under his belt for the All Day I Dream label. Four years on, he returns to the label for Deja Vu, a bright and bold step on for an artist who defines himself by his use of melody. 'The Morning Song' is a swooning, romantic piece of prog with anthemic leads and an arrangement carefully sculpted to take a big crowd skywards. 'Deja Vu' is just as catchy and emotionally charged, albeit with a slightly techier disposition, and 'Alone' features the vocal touch of Juan Hansen to add to the impassioned mood of the record.

Dkma - Boston Boy: Vol 2
Dana Kelley's archives continue to yield more incredible compilations from the Above Board-steered Guidance revival. Put together with the blessing and assistance of the late house producer's family, this second volume of Boston Boy goes even deeper into his archives, touching on the tough-as-you-like broken beat brilliance of 'Something About You', the sprightly, jazzy deep house of 'Trifling' and some heady unreleased DAT grabs which will have long-time devotees flipping out. Long may Kelley's incredible touch filter out into the global house music community.
