Classiques Volume NineteenGU Classics US
Glenn Underground has been living and breathing and shaping Chicago house music for as long as we can remember. His GU Classics label is a place where he drops his own edits of special talks from across the years and many different styles. This latest edition starts with him playing keys on Ingram's starring jazz-funk-disco banger 'Music Has The Power.' After that comes James Brown's 'Take Me Higher' with some club-ready drums extended for modern floors. Last of all is a subtle rework of Meco's super vibey and percussive, chord-laced and swinging 'Cantina Boogie.'

Body Pressure (remastered)Wewantsounds
Funk and soul group Sho Nuff were already beneficiaries of such greats as Stax Records and Malaco before their fourth LP, now reissued here through Wewantsounds, came out via the Japanese music racket King Records. Whilst their earlier records saw wide promotions in the US, Body Pressure heard the sextet relocate their appeal to the Japanese market, after having toured regularly in the Eastern isle after their prior album Stand Up For Love saw only modest sales success. Now well into their early-mid 80s embrace of boogie, the likes of 'Body Pressure', 'Monster Monster' and 'Is This For Real' hear unique pan-Asian collaborative panaceas, with recordings from Japanese funk jazz guitarist Takao Naoi standing out most notably on this sizzler.

The Velvet Underground - Loaded (reissue)
SACD
Loaded (reissue)Analogue Productions US
The Velvet Underground's Loaded, a pivotal rock record from 1970, returns in a meticulously remastered SACD format. The album marked the band's bid for mainstream success, with label head Ahmet Ertegun pushing Lou Reed to deliver a record "loaded with hits". The result was a shimmering rock collection, though one far removed from the group's avant-garde roots. Though Reed left the band before its release, Loaded still shines as a masterclass in rock archetypes. Tracks like 'Sweet Jane' and 'Rock & Roll' cemented their status as proto-punk pioneers, while the sunny cynicism of 'Who Loves the Sun' and the rollicking 'Head Held High' showcased the band's sardonic wit. With Doug Yule taking on a leading roleisinging four tracks and playing much of the instrumentationiand Maureen Tucker absent on maternity leave, the album stands as both a departure from and a reflection of their earlier works. A near-perfect rock album, yet its polished production and radio-friendly leanings make it an outlier in the Velvet Underground canon. The SACD reissue offers audiophiles the ideal digital experience, capturing the tension between pop ambition and artistic identity that defines this bittersweet swan song. Everyone should own a copy of this magnificent album.

Sync 24 / Adj / Junq - Cultivated Electronics EP 002 (reissue)

Cultivated Electronics EP 002 (reissue)Cultivated Electronics
Originally released back in 2008, Cultivated Electronics's second 12" features still-fresh tracks from label head Sync 24 alongside the debut release from Matt Whitehead. It was a classic back then and it remains so which is why it now gets reissued. 'Resynth' is pure electronic madness with mad inventive rhythms. The EP also includes a contribution from Pyramid Transmissions label owner ADJ who showed his class on 'Another Level' and Brighton-based acid producer Junq keeps it classy on 'From Below'. This high-energy collection pushes the boundaries of techno and is a no-brainer for fans of bold, analogue-driven sound.

Outlier - Biome

BiomeAnimalia Australia
If you know, you know, and what you will know is that o.utlier is something of a legendary Irish producer. He sets out to melt minds with this new one on Animalia down in Australia. 'Evaporation' is a leftfield concoction with wispy synths that bring static electric feels to moody, stripped back and supple rhythms topped with sci-fi motifs. 'Crop Rotation' is a reverb-rich dub and 'Ionic' is another stripped-back and intriguing sound with shifting synth lines and only the most minimal drums. 'Pulse' is an icy and dubby closer for the heady back rooms.

The Temptations - Psychedelic Shack (reissue)
LP
Psychedelic Shack (reissue)Elemental Music US
The 12th album from The Temptations for Berry Gordy's influential Motown label came in 1970. It was written in its entirety by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong and produced by Whitfield, and despite the label it came on, Psychedelic Shack pretty much tore up the usual Motown template and instead delved deep into psychedelia. The acid-tinged title track breaks new ground thanks to the influence of the B-52s and they maintained this vibe on 'Hum Along and Dance' but ventured into different territories with the experimental 'You Make Your Own Heaven and Hell Right Here on Earth' and 'Take a Stroll Thru Your Mind.' The album peaks with tracks like 'It's Summer' and the Whitfield-penned classic 'War.' This album remains timeless and a great example of the band's evolution

Coming Up (2025 remixes)Blanco Y Negro Spain
Blanco Y Negro continues to unearth and reissue Italo-disco and Euro-disco gems from the mid-to-late 1980s, frequently breathing new life into them via fresh reworks and colourful vinyl pressings. That's the case here, as Eddy Mi Ami and DJ TinTin take it in turns to rework both tracks from the Italian twosome's 1986 debut single on a rather fetching splattered red and white vinyl pressing. On side A it's all about title track 'Coming Up'. Eddy Mi Ami steps up first, adding a touch of Italo-dance energy while retaining many of the elements from Ross's original mix, before DJ TinTin delivers a warmer, glossier and more melodious Italo-disco take. Over on the flip, Eddy Mi Ami turns original B-side 'Buscame' into a bleeping, surging and fizzing Italo-dance stomper, while DJ TinTin provides a smoother and more sun-soaked interpretation of the same track.
