On this second, more expansive sampler for his forthcoming album Spaces & Places, Kerri Chandler treats us to tracks inspired by - and by the wonders of mobile recording technology, produced inside - clubs including Dublin's District 8, Glasgow institution Sub Club, Lux of Lisbon and NYC's Output. Of course, the standard is uniformly high throughout - it's classic Chandler from start to finish - but our picks of a very fine bunch include the soulful piano house shimmer of 'Change Your Mind', the thrusting, bass-heavy pump of 'Subbie (Rattle The Subbie Mix)', the effortlessly slick and soulful 'Tenacity (Full Vocal Mix)' and the ludicrously sub-heavy snap of 'See The Light (Dub)'. To borrow an old cliche, this is very much, 'all killer, no filler'.

Kennedy - Dream 2
Dutch DJ/producer Kennedy returns with another installment in the Dream series, on his Dream Machine imprint no less. This second musical manifestation is the latest in a unique series of thoughts, sensations and sounds occurring from his mind, translated by machines. On the A side we have some serious hi-tech jazz in the form of 'Lifeforms' strongly taking its cues from the Underground Resistance style of Detroit techno. Over on the flip, the interstellar journey into hi-tech soul continues with the evocative 'Orbit' where a rich tapestry of visceral pads play centre stage, underpinned by syncopated 313 style rhythms. Tip!

Nu Genea / Nu Guinea - Bar Mediterraneo
Neapolitan duo Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina are Nu Genea, masters of the Balearic form and musical wizards who transport you to a better place in an instant. Four years later their last album they finally return with more sumptuous sounds in the form of Bar Mediterraneo, which swings open its doors and invites you in for a cocktail or two. Acoustic instruments, voices and synthesizers all come together on this funk, soul, Afro, Latin and jazz fusion and it's exactly the sort of record you needing your life when the temps begin to rise.

Sun Ra & His Arkestra - Omniverse (reissue)
Sun Ra's Saturn label put out the jazz greats Omniverse album back in 1979. That is the same year it was recorded in New York, but it is an often rather overlooked work from the well-known sun worshipper, maybe because he has such a vast catalogue. Each piece is a freeform excursion and exploration into pure jazz, with plenty of introspective piano coming from setups that range from trios to quartets to sextets. The cover art has been interpreted from a hand-drawn Arkestra cover, and this issue comes on CD after a number vinyl copies the past.

The Half Dead Organization was a short-lived rap group from Houston, Texas. The dropped just one album and one EP but for hardcore rap fans they are real classics. The original label was Johnny Palmer Entertainment but now it is Most Wanted that drop this reissue of the seminal self titled debut. It's a record that goes big on the gangsta sounds with hard hitting bars and beats and plenty of old school scratching and samples. It has aged well and though it has plenty of nostalgia it still stands up all these many years later.

Judge Dread - Dread White & Blue
Gather round for a superb reissue of a ska classic here. Randale Records publish this one which was originally put out in 1996 by Skank Records, which was a sister label for Link Records. This version comes with a new cover that sees the original cover drawn by hand. Skinheads everywhere loved Judge Dread because of the sense of humour he brought to his word play as well as the killer skanking rhythms laid down beneath them. Check out the raucous and horn-led joy of 'The Virgin Sturgeon' for a perfect example of why.
Jally Kebba Susso - Freedom
Jally Kebba Susso has already released two albums as a solo artist and both took him to new heights. He is a master kora player and afro-fusion pioneer who is base din London but brings the birch musical heritage of his Gambian homeland to all he does. His newest EP, Freedom, is "a heartfelt shout expressing the newfound joy of an African musician whose working conditions, despite his long-standing roots in the London music scene, have sometimes been precarious." He plays with accomplished band members and cooks up four fiercely funky pieces of world music with spiritual vocals.
