Synchrophone proudly present the latest Gerard Hanson aka. Convextion release; a head-turner moment, since the last proper EP by the 2845 artist was over seven years ago, with Vectorvision for the EP 'Zy Clone'. Since then, Convextion has been hard at work, eschewing all concavities for a purely thermal, fluid sonic exercise. 'Torc' and 'Andas' are unsettling, looming techno visions, confecting a hypothetical world in which the hard sciences have taken total precedent over the human, resulting in a rapid dissipation of heat. The only energy that remains is that which is fed through the machine, as further evidenced on the sinister murk-movements on ERP's version, its two-tone Reese stab suggesting utter indefatigability when begged for mercy.

Japanese Breakfast's fourth album is the first that they've recorded in a proper studio. They traded their usual makeshift spaces for the holy grail of recording studios: Sound City in Los Angeles. That's where Nirvana's Nevermind was recorded and Dave Grohl spotlighted in a major documentary. To make the most of the space they hired Perfume Genius, Laura Marling and Fiona Apple producer Blake Mills and together they've crafted a stunning album that, as the title indicates, takes the listener on a more melancholic journey than ever before. 'Orlando In Love' marries the strum of an acoustic guitar with stately string sections and it feels vulnerable yet hopeful. Meanwhile, 'Mega Circuit' works around a vocal melody that wouldn't be amiss in a Katy J Pearson song. In terms of the mix, it's an ambitious and sonically colourful affair with plenty to hold onto and keep the listener discovering new elements upon each listen.

Will Long aka Celer, Mississippi-born but now permanently resident in Tokyo, intensifies his investigation in personal house music with the fourth edition in his Long Trax series. A quartered circle of evolving textures of at first seemingly diminutive character, this manifest impression is dashed once we learn that each track on the record is given its own side, allowing each ample space to unfold within an economically restrained formula: dry drum machines, subtle chords, hygge bass. Clearly an ode to productive limitation: 'The Right Choice' tosses us the first chord against gambolling percs, while 'You Cannot Reform A Sin' brings marching, DC-offset acid. The release redresses historic wrongs too, using carefully extracted, recorded samples of key voices in the Afro-American civil rights movement.

When it comes to hunting the very of best library music cuts out there, De Wolfe's discography is likely the best place to start, and finish. The British music production company were the first to license such music exclusively for film and TV and thus single-handedly popularised the now DJ's favourite genre. Here on this reissue, Aussie producer, musician and double bassist Johnny Hawksworth (one of two famous library musician "hawks", only once removed from the perhaps more eminent Alan Hawkshaw), prizes open both falcon's eyes and auriculars: 'Bite Hard Breaks', the star, makes for an unfathomably cool piece for the playing of seductive games. Unsurprisingly, but with this fact not known to many, this record has been much sampled by hip-hop titans, from Beyonce to Drake to Jay Z to Madlib.

A recently uncovered live solo piano performance from the late 70s and an intimate glimpse into this most cosmic of artist's boundless creativity. Initially mislabeled as a 1979 Carnegie Hall recording, the tapeidiscovered by an archivisticontained 11 pieces, some familiar, others more elusive. However, historical discrepancies in known setlists and concert durations led to further research, ultimately identifying the recording as an unreleased 1977 performance at a downtown New York jazz cafe. The music captures an artist fully immersed in spontaneous exploration, shifting effortlessly between blues, gospel and avant-garde phrasing. There are joyous excursions through tradition, contrasted with strikingly forward-thinking passages that stretch harmonic boundaries. Swing-era standards take on new life, infused with rhythmic playfulness and unexpected melodic turns. Certain moments drift into meditative contemplation, while others erupt into exuberant, free-flowing improvisation. The interplay of structure and spontaneity remains a defining feature throughout, reinforcing the pianist's ability to bridge past and future in a way few could. Four additional solo pieces, sourced from a separate but contemporaneous rehearsal tape, further enrich the collection. Originally captured during a session with a drummerilikely a longtime collaboratorithese tracks were recorded during a brief interlude when the percussionist stepped away, leaving the pianist to vamp freely. These passages, while exploratory, align seamlessly with the spirit of the primary recording, reinforcing a sense of continuity. Decades later, this rediscovered performance remains as vibrant and unpredictable as the day it was played.

Dan Tyler and Nick The Record's third installment in the Mr Bongo Edits series brings a bold twist to Cuban classics with three tracks that are equal parts cosmic and dancefloor-ready. On the A-side, Tyler extends two Juan Pablo Torres tracks from his reissued 1978 'Algo Nuevo' and 1977's 'Super Son.' First, Tyler reimagines 'Cacao,' a standout track from Torres' LP, giving it room to breathe and intensifying the percussive climax with swirling synths and spacey dub effects. It's a track that thrives on a big system, building tension as it goes, and works wonders in the right environmentijust ask anyone who caught it at La Paloma in Barcelona. Next, Tyler dials into 'Pastel En Descarga,' turning the Latin-funk fusion into a punchy, trippy dub with delay and drama, keeping the track's energy while taking it further into spacey, cosmic territory. On the flip, Nick The Record tackles Grupo Los Yoyi's 1977 'Paco La Calle,' taking a 2009 edit and expanding it into a longer, more hypnotic piece. The percussion pushes and pulls as the psychedelic synths swirl, creating a dynamic and ever-building groove. The 2025 version is elevated with new synth lines courtesy of Tyler, deepening the track's psychedelic richness. A cosmic whirlwind of reworks that bridges the gap between '70s Cuban innovation and modern dancefloor sensibilities.

If you like the sound of a mystical fusion of ancient Japanese folklore and contemporary electronic music, this EP created by Italian producer Volantis and Japanese artist Hiroko is for you. Inspired by a psychedelic experience in Kobe, it blends hardware synthesis with haunting vocals to cook up otherworldly spiritual realms. The title track merges Hiroko's narration with Japanese train sounds while summoning ancient beings while Eden Burns' remix intensifies the ritualistic atmosphere. 'La Kappa' features Hiroko's playful vocals over dreamy sequences with Fabrizio Mammarella's Italorama Version adding a touch of Italo disco. The whole thing was co-produced with Niccolo Barozzi and bridges East and West seamlessly.

Melchior Sultana's sounds have always been the set f sunset house depths that have you dreaming of warmer climates. For this new EP on Fluid Funk, he slows it down even more and explores funk, dubby drums and meditative chords. 'Sustained' is inwardly reflective and beautiful with a subtle synth glow, then 'Fusion' has a little more swagger but no less of a magical synth shine. Kaysoul keeps the buddy, intimate house tip going with 'Let's Get Down' which is underpinned by great bass work, and 'Sea Crawl Out My Eyes' which ups the ante with crunchy hits but still nice eft and subdued chords. A Nico Lahs remix brings some steamy, tropical heat.
