  4. Zombies Under Stress - "Maan Zal Zijn" (Svengalisghost remix)
  5. Mark Forshaw - "Submission"
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Contort Yourself has once again gathered the best and boldest from past and present for its fourth EP. To begin with we have the grimacing visage of Volition Immanent, an intense live act made up of Parrish Smith and Mark Van de Maat (Knekelhuis). Behind rawkish distortion, splintered beats and acrid bars screams a boiled anger; a track spitting on the divides of punk and electronics. Nastiness is taken up a notch as noise ne'er-do-wells Zombies Under Stress take over. Static is bent and doubled across thick chords and collapsed clap in the 1986 "Maan Zal Zijn" before the raw and raging battery of "In Onze Tijd." L.I.E.S. regular Svengalisghost grapples with "Maan Zal Zijn, channelling the original's rage into a mechanical monster. The 12" is bookended with bite as Mark Forshaw (Tabernacle/Berceuse Heroique) closes with the tortured and torrential thump of "Submission." A callous, caustic and fervently cruel EP.

Review: Oliver Ho inaugurates his new imprint under the Broken English Club alias "where absurdist melodrama meets vile electronics." This new 7" inch features two raw and confronting tracks: on Side A we have the title track with its pounding and trance inducing tribal drums backing an onslaught of alien vocals, swimming in layers of noise and distortion; riveting stuff! On the flip "Our History In Bones" harks back to the chilling drone rock experiments as heard on his tremendous Suburban Hunting LP last year with his trademark nonchalant vocals in yet another brilliant display of modern post-punk interpretation.

Review: There's a tongue in cheek sensibility and an air of confrontation to much that James Donadio does as Prostitutes which made him more than suited to Powell's Diagonal label when the Cleveland artist debuted on the label last year. It's nice to see Donadio back with the Simple Minds-riffing Ecstasy, Crashing Beats & Fantasy and contributing one of the final Diagonal records of 2014, a year that's been most successful for both artist and label. Donadio has said in interviews Powell tries to encourage him to take a more explicit approach to the dancefloor and that's evident on this quartet of Prostitutes tracks. The curdling acid of "Dollars To DMs" and the faltering bleep electro of "Side Effects Of Living" are particularly potent Prostitutes productions!

Review: Moopie's A Colourful Storm label launched earlier this year as an extension of the popular online platform that has hosted a rich and diverse stream of mixes from the likes of Imaginary Softwoods, DJ Nobu, Frak and Rabih Beaini to name a few. Pro-tip: do check that latter live mix from the Morphine boss! It was the archival sounds of Denial and their lost Oz classic cover of "California Dreaming" that heralded the arrival of A Colourful Storm, but this second release on the label switches the focus to more contemporary fare. Power Relations is a two track 12" of bad-mannered, f*cked up club trax from Melbourne's Nerve. The stomping, nocturnal techno of the title track is backed with a Photek-meets-Sunn O))) terror stepper entitled "Heads & Ordinary Concrete". For fans of Regis, Emptyset and Blackest Ever Black.

Review: If you were looking for a musical representation of the sketchy, out-of-bounds recesses of the dark web, you could do worse than check out this fourth full-length from Philadelphia based electronic explorers Metasplice. Variously paranoid, dark, intense, otherworldly and strangely sparse, the album's eight tracks veer from claustrophobic experiments in freestyle electronic madness (see "Track 5") and overbearingly hostile drone ("Track 7"), to macabre ambience and surprisingly melodious minimalism (see the bubbling electronics of "Track 6"). Despite the duo's desire to push boundaries, Metasplice is actually a rather entertaining set, with the scattergun, left-of-centre approach guaranteeing surprises throughout.

  4. Sonique/Grace/Gouryella/Roger Sanchez/Eric Prydz (13:21)
Review: We've been waiting for this beauty to arrive since we first heard the news of its vinyl reissue through The Death Of Rave. Theo Burt's Summer Mix is possibly one of the most original and daring electronic LP's of the last five years. Using something called a Fourier transform, Burt mutated commercial dance hits into minimal, tripping and subby 4/4 sketches. We've been told this works by stripping 50% of the content and remoulding it by placing similar tones next to each other. Music by the likes of Deadmau5, Paul Van Dyk, Eric Prydz and even Swedish House Mafia is all in there but torn apart and sculpted into something more similar to the Chain Reaction output thanks to the long flurries of delay. This is a special album for the special kind of ear. Moreover, it's what the underground represents: musical freedom and total experimentation.

Review: The JBLA outfit finally land on Desire with a supremely awaited EP that's shimmering with gritty hardware flair and squelching noise trickery. The title track is a rampant, percussion-driven, post-punk tool and is hotly rewired by none other than LIES affiliates, Ron Morelli and Svengalisghost, who turn in a twisted, metallic version of the original - oscillating atmospherics and a minimalistic kick-hat form an alluring bundle of a groove. "Night With Potential" is a lo-fi kinda tune, with aqueous melodies and hazy landscapes. Our favourite LIES protege, Vereker goes in for the total kill on the remix, creating a nasty, cacophonous and industrial time-bomb for the end of days - this guys has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, apparently. A cop-on-site kinda EP, really...

Review: Having opened proceedings on 2013 with the excellent Commercial Mouth LP from Jar Moff, PAN sneak out another album length release from the Greek producer and add to what's been another peerless year of curation from Bill Kouligas. The Athens-based musician served up one of this year's most innovative slabs of musique concrete with that aforementioned album and Financial Glam further extends Jar Moff's status as one of many unique voices on PAN. Consisting of two long form productions, that sense of cluttered sonics, broken rhythms and disquieting calm is still very much evident on Financial Glam and it's augmented by the producer's subtle musings on "recent austerity issues and political upheaval in his home city".

Review: Josh Cheon's Dark Entries label plunge once more into the depths of the UK underground in the 1980s and come up the other side with this crucial reissue of A Dissembly by Konstruktivits. A quick history lesson: former Heute man and Throbbing Gristle/Industrial Records associate Glenn Michael Wallis was and remains the towering creative force behind Konstruktivits who are active to this day and have been "perverting your ears since 1980." Of the numerous albums Konstruktivits have been responsible for, it is their debut LP from 1982 that Dark Entries have chosen to reissue here, offering a newly remastered take on A Dissembly that suggests Wallis and associates to be worthy sonic companions to Muslimgauze, Tuxedo Moon, Clock DVA and Throbbing Gristle. The freaks out there will love this one.

Review: Where do we even start with the Cold Spring label? The UK institution has been putting out any music that's remotely related to the industrial domain for over twenty years, and they have featured some pretty legendary names on the label. Names like Psychic TV, Merzbow, Genesis P-Orridge and Skullflower, among many others, and have even mashed that up with visionary legends like Sun Ra. They've got a pretty special line-up this time with Zos Kia, Coil, and Ake all appearing on the same LP. Enough said, brothers and sisters. John Gosling might be the only remaining member of legendary 80s industrial outfit Zos Kia, but it's clear from the sounds of his first five segments that he's still operating with exactly the same menace and dexterity behind the mixing board; this is your thing if you're into bizarre noise infusions and gnarly power electronics. The man teams up with legendary band Coil, spear-headed by ex-Psychic TV member John Balance, and together they offer some pretty foreboding noise-rock cross-overs. Ake's final two tracks tie things off with a devilish twist of tooled-up field recordings that give the term 'bleak' a new meaning. A special release. Don't miss this.

Their latest effort encapsulates this FuckPunk ethos perfectly, coaxing Bristol musician Matt Loveridge of Beak fame into a three track journey of self-styled "omniphonic bliss-torrent, radge noise, broked-up electrics, hymnal dirge fer 'eye-a-the-storm' kinda allelujah." Featuring track titles that last as long as the productions, the snappily titled ^ __ ^ will go down as one of the most unique slabs of sonics released in 2015.

Review: When he's not busy producing ear-shaking industrial techno or corrupted house bangers, Paris' Low Jack appears under his birth name, Philippe Hallais. While this is technically a debut under his real name, we've already gotten a taste of what the talented producer can offer beyond the dancefloor. This album, An American Hero, comes through on Andy Stott's sublime Modern Love and we feel that there couldn't be a better match on our charts this week. Although the large part of these tunes would scare most normal people off any dance piste, there is something unmistakably club-minded about it; the choice of sonics and atmospherics is most certainly on the experimental side of the spectrum, but there is a noticeable movement and pulse-like beat at its foundations. For instance, the likes of "Everything (Good)" or "Angela (Square)" burst out of the speakers with a mind-bending vortex of sounds that somehow find their own kinetic energy and pull you in to a subtle groove. Compared to most left field or ambient albums out there, Hallais has made sure to keep you locked and excited for the whole damn thing. Recommended. Warmly.

Review: Greyscale textural abrasions courtesy of the AnD boys under their Shadows guise, dedicated to their forays into industrial mayhem. Wasting no time getting stuck in with the white knuckled duvet ride of "Leaves In the Wind", it will engulf you in its wall of noise and shock you with its harsh modular blasts. The body bashing pulsations of "What If They Are Watching You" plunders the same depths as Kerridge or Shapednoise; the sound of tremors emerging from the fault line. Some sludgy grindcore metal to be heard on "On A Mad Train" could easily be mistaken for some of J.K. Flesh's more recent works while "Lights Out" closes proceedings with a noisy and nefarious power electronics excursion that'd make even the Posh Isolation crew stand up and notice.

Review: The Norwegian band has already appeared on Enfant Terrible - a label so varied and spontaneous that it almost hurts - with a collection of subtle, atmospheric drone rhythms and soundscapes but they return with a grungier, more fiendish package of hardware-filtered rippers on their second outing for the imprint. Tracks like "02 22 22" and "Long Play" are exactly the sort of thing we like to hear: rattling percussion, noxious sub-melodies and plenty of oddity. If you're into your Stephen Mallinder and Bruce Gilbert deviations, then look no further...

Review: For those who don't know, Trensmat is not a rip-off of Detroit's Transmat, but rather, Ireland's answer to labels such as Blackest Ever Black and Hospital Productions. If you check their discography, there's plenty of hidden gems to uncover. On this record, the enigmatic Valved receives a furious remix treatment from two Juno HQ favourites. "Tipping Point" is downright disfigured by the incorrigible AnD duo - not once but twice: the first remix offers a cascade of fuzzy, distorted kicks and incessant drone loops, while the second removes all traces of a beat and delves deep into the cogs of the machines. On the flip, "Blood On The Controls" is rewired twice by Whirling House of Knives. The first is a chest-bursting monster from the depths of the drum machines, while the second is a slice sparse and experimental neo-funk with an otherworldly succession of popping kicks and crystal-like background atmospherics. TIP!

Review: Ricardo Donoso is all over the place at the moment, releasing mind-bending bursts of sonic warfare on the incorrigible Denovali label, left, right and centre. We're big fans of his latest LP for the label, so another EP is very much welcomed at this point! Picking up where he left off, we have five new tracks spanning the full circle, and much like the majority of Donoso's output, there's a distinct nod to the elements. The sounds on tracks such as "Simulated Charity" or "Prisoner's Dilemma", although most probably processed on both software and hardware, have an ethereal feel about them, and one can almost hear the gusts of wind and the tidal waves circulating amid the drones and aural landscapes. Donoso is a truly underrated character. This is electronic music at its finest.

Review: It's not hard to admire the sheer bloody-mindedness that drives Tadd Mullinix's label venture, Bopside. In between the recent Charles Manier album and the upcoming JTC long-player - a contender for house album of the year - comes Skein. Produced under his birth name, it's a deeply experimental three-tracker. The title track is a succession of screeches, howls and white noise blasts, while "Hadopelagic Chime" sees the US producer map out a series of soundscapes against a low tempo backdrop. Closing track "Bridge Out" is a succession of abstract clatters, noisy interference and scattered dissected FX. God knows what demographic Mullinix is hoping to a appeal to - if any.

Review: Few can top Pat Murano in the prolific stakes when it comes to his output as Decimus with a weighty 18 albums released under the name for Further, Opal Tapes, Digitalis and his own Kelippah since 2011! After releasing Decimus 10 on Further back in 2013, Murano now returns to the label with Decimus 7, the latest installment in his proposed series of twelve long players dedicated to the zodiac of Decimus Magnus Ausonious. Like the previous editions in this series, Decimus 7 consists of two continuous long form tracks with the overall sound landing snugly within the abrasive abstraction that Murano has built his name on.

Review: Indeed. We're just as happy as you with this stunning, 18-track package from the mischievous band they call Europ Europ! This time it's a remix affair, however, and they've really worked all their thinking power on this one because it's about as diverse and creative than most things we've heard recently. The highlights most certainly come from Mr.Broda, who turns in a bizarre yet wonderful amalgamation of steppers dub and discoid filth, the sonic thrashing of SKL and Sololust's nutty synth-pop experimentations. It's a winner, through and through. Indulge, it's ace.
