Review: Having notched up releases on the likes of Raum...musik and Apollonia, Makcim & Levi make the move to Lazare Hoche to deliver another shedload of hard-grooving house bombs for the deepest part of the night. The 1055ml EP is a mixed bag that leads with the title track, which encapsulates everything that's great about the stripped down house sound that Lazare Hoche is committed to. "Sandwiches" meanwhile is a quirky, bugging jam that wriggles under the skin in the most subtle of ways before "Sowhaa" brings a much more hypnotic, pad-laden blend to the table for a soft landing from this feisty 12" of forward-thinking 4/4.

Ferox is proud to welcome established and respected producers such as Fred P and Germany's Move D to the roster, as well as a welcome return from Affie Yusuf, Nebraska and Bush Funk (Steve O'Sullivan and Winlord X) who were last seen on Soma Records back in 1996. The label is also proud to introduce two new artists, Darren Harris and Spain's Hoax Believers who alongside label boss Russ Gabriel round off this package of soulful electronica. Review: With the original pressing of the 2013 release long gone but still in great demand, Ornate is thrilled to revisit Leif's Each Day Made New EP and give it a lavish new repress on violet coloured vinyl. When the record originally dropped it received support from artists as well-respected as Larry Heard, Soul Capsule, Jane Fitz and Rhythm Plate, and continues to be spun regularly to this day.

Since then Leif has been on an incredibly productive run, releasing his debut album Dinas Oleu on Fear Of Flying as well as singles on Sudden Drop and Idle Hands. UntilMyHeartStops, the label he runs with Joe Ellis, has continued to build in notoriety with celebrated releases from Steevio, Arnaldo and Duckett, while Leif himself is preparing to release his much-anticipated second LP through the imprint soon.

It's the perfect time to be reminded of a true gem from the London-based artist's back catalogue, from the warm, ear-snagging chords of "Circumstance 4" to the low slung downtempo funk of the title track, and give a few more eager heads the chance to grab a copy.

Review: The Manchester-based label, Music Is Love, has made some serious headway in their debut year with a flurry of impressive releases from a pool of highly talented up-and-coming artists. Moving into 2014 and the MIL crew continue to unearth fresh talent with the creation a new sister label, a label devised on bringing together a broad range of musical aspects and inspired by a desire to nurture a sound with more sonic craft. For their inaugural first release they welcome Colman Buckley for his first full EP. With 4 tracks of uniquely differing styles, the EP is branded by percussive rhythms and slick grooves, with acid-fused textures and deep house melodies piecing together a strong collection of tracks.

Review: In what is surely an unexpected collaboration in the field of house and techno, Mosaic mastermind Steve O'Sullivan teams up with Ricardo Villalobos for a hypnotic trip through minimal landscapes that plays to both of their strengths. The rock-solid rhythm of "Sullric" surely belongs to O'Sullivan while the rich, subtle layers of samples, tones and other such sonic decorations come straight from the Villalobos school of production. The two mixes on this 12" only have minor differences - whichever side you drop things will get considerably deeper than they were previously. Of such ingredients are classy, immersive techno joints made.

The succession of the label and Fabio's sound has been ever so apparent. Review: Described in typically self deprecating manner as a 'vanity imprint in the classically ornery tradition,' the Pear Growers Series is a new label from Chris Madak, best known for his mind bendingly good output as Bee Mask. The first release sees material from Madak's excellent Spectrum Spools long player When We Were Eating Unripe Pears get treated to remixes from celebrated techno artists Surgeon and Abdulla Rashim. Anyone who has heard Surgeon playing the remix on his Rinse FM show will agree that his unashamedly emotive breakbeat reworking of "The Story Of Keys & Locks" is arguably one of the simplest and most affecting remixes this year. Complementing this, Prologue and Semantica artist Abdulla Rashim delivers a take on "Unripe Pears" that will resonate with anyone that has indulged in the elusive producer's recent output on his own eponymous label.

Review: Unknown To The Unknown spreads its wings with a new sublabel dedicated specifically to jacking house jams for proper white-knuckle party times. Steven BC turns the acid intensity up to 11 with the devastatingly on-point "Flanger Zone", while Mall Grab reaches for a classic bit of disco funk to sample and filter mercilessly. Lawrence Lee meanwhile opts for a playful, budget take on Eastern electro on "Pyongyang Rhythm" before Jeremy Castillo and Vin Sol return to primal Trax Records territory for "Beat Dat". It's a release that marks House Crimes out as a natural descendant from UTTU's irreverent approach to dance music, without compromising on the quality.

Review: Since slipping out in 1983, Midori Takada's debut album, Through The Looking Glass, has become something of a sought-after item amongst ambient enthusiasts (with hugely inflated online prices to match). Happily, Palto Flats has decided to reissue it, allowing those without overblown record buying budgets to wallow in its gentle, humid majesty. Remarkably, Takada not only composed and produced it, but also played every instrument, including marimbas, recorder, vibraphone, harmonium, and all manner of things you can hit and shake. The resulting tracks remain hugely beguiling, sitting somewhere between a dreamy take on traditional Japanese music, the classic ambient albums of Brian Eno, and the gentle, sweat-soaked explorations of The Chi Factory.

Review: Giammarco Orsini kicked off Heko Records last year with the first volume of Experiential Learning, and now he's back for round two following a brief spot on Elephant Moon earlier in the year. "Solar System Is Vital To The Planet" dominates the A side in a swinging, punchy style of techno that calls to mind the likes of Stephen Brown. "Life Goes On" on the flip however comes on with a housier demeanour, keeping the Detroit synth tones plush and the mood mellow. "Trees Dance" breaks away into a stripped back electro style that sits as a neat foil to the grooving 4/4 elsewhere on the EP.

Review: Acclaimed for many of his compositions on labels such as Aesthetic Audio, ART, Ornate, alongside his blistering DJ performances. AER boss Miles drops the label's first and his debut album. Deep is a word often used to describe a lot of music currently out there, but not many touch the depths of this superb LP on Atmospheric Existence. Miles touches on many shades of sound with his trademark emotive warmth. Melancholy but positive vibrations flow out alongside abstract grooves. Hypnotic elements grace the journey, creating an otherworldy sense of space and distant unknown entities. Feeling & mood leap out of this LP at every twist and unexpected turn, circumnavigating the deep spectrum. Since his early releases, his imprint AER has become a highly respected imprint globally with a dedicated following. This LP was constructed to stand the test of time and stand it does, firmly rooted in the Cosmos.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Mount Liberation Unlimited's debut 12" on Junk Yard Connections, Astro Travelling Life, has become one of the most in-demand deep house releases of 2014. A year on, they finally deliver a follow-up, this time on Superconscious Records. All three tracks primarily succeed due to their blend of rough analogue elements - crusty drum machine hits, tape hiss, and so on - and the kind of dreamy, stargazing chords and melodies that have always been a hall mark of classic deep house. It's the Detroit techno influenced "Polyphonic Spree" - all cymbal-heavy shuffle, stretched-out chords and funky synthesizers - that arguably stands out, though it's a tough call given the high quality threshold throughout.

Review: **REPRESS** The Jack Fell Down duo made a considerable splash last year with releases on Southern Fried and Hometaping Is Killing Music and now they resurface in style with the Another Way EP. The second offering from new Sccucci Manucci offshoot, Manucci's Mistress, this 10" operation is a good home for the Jack Fell Down sound. Lead track "Road To Nowhere" displays a pensive melodic restraint that many of the new crop of house producers seem to overlook in their excitement to get productions from Ableton to Soundcloud. If the A Side sounds like Jack Fell Down holding back, then "Brothers & Sisters" could potentially have them sectioned, such is the crazed madness of the screaming vocals that intermittently punctuate the 90s rave stabs. Great fun.

Review: For those who caught Furness' Four 4 The Floor EP, and are familiar with his work, this release is further evidence of how much of a fledgling purveyor of deep grooves and heavy-hitting rhythms Furness is. Title track Gone Fishing utilises string keys as the foundation of the track and marries the emotive, elongated synths with a dubby bassline and quick hitting snares. Acropolis is tougher, centering distorted pads against intermittent piano chords, muffled vocal grabs and a deep, cosmic bassline. Red808 is a no-nonsense roller, with its slick snare and hi-hat/hand-clap tandem working superbly against the climbing synths. Blackstar adopts a similar framework to Acropolis, wrapping up the EP in style with its similarly lo-fi, distorted percussion charged against rapturous chords taking the track into further sonic terrain.

Inspired by the Freerotation festival, label boss Malcolm Moore has called on artists who have either played or attended the cultish Welsh gathering for this Rotate Freely 12". The EP kicks off with Fragment One which is sure to be a dancefloor favourite with it's driving kick and bassline, warm pads and a hypnotic acid line that crescendos throughout the track keeping you hooked from start to finish. Fragment Two is on a much deeper tip with a lovely bassline and lush melodic synths that interweave doing a delicious dance with each other throughout. Seberg is classic deep house with driving percussion and a funky bassline mixed with rich pads and melodic lines. Last but certainly not least we get Every Single Word, a more harmonic track that finishes off the EP perfectly.

Review: Paul Cottam's Ruff Draft label enjoyed a great first year in 2014, delivering white-hot material from the man himself, LK and Romansoff, amongst others. For the imprint's first missive of 2015, Cottam has recruited Cardiff-based rising star Chesus, who previously impressed via releases on Local Talk, 4 Lux and Catapult. There's naturally much to admire, from the acid-era electronics, delicate synth strings and shimmering chords of opener "Orbicular", to the DJ Gregory-ish stabs, wonky electronics and dense, organic-sounding percussion of "WYW". Bristol-based producer Owain K - best known for his hook-ups with Jamie Anderson on Dessous - lends a hand on "Let It Happen", a rather fine slice of warm, immersive, Balearic deep house goodness seemingly inspired by the Vangelis classic of the same name.

What comes across is how consistent the sound is, whenever an individual jam was made. The same heavy-lidded melodics and easy-funking rhythm sections prevail across all nine cuts here, at times hitting the uplifting pace of "Vertigo" or heading into the meditative pastures of "Sea Bird", but always maintaining that quintessential Vibraphone feeling. The diggers will be happy to snag the reissued tracks as well as discovering completely fresh material from Rome's premier deep house institution.

Review: Christian Viers is fast becoming a prominent name on UK underground house and techno circuits, either as part of Lazlo Dancehall alongside Leon Vynehall or his long running A1 Bassline project. Techno-focused releases on his own label, Source Unknown captured the attention of the ears behind the newly formed FINA White resulting in the Bad Timing EP, which the label state is a "strikingly clear indication of the distinctive direction" they plan to take moving forward. Title track "Bad Timing" is a straight up techno banger whose menacingly melodic low-end tones, relentless thump and rolling toms are the driving force behind its robust and looming groove. "Without Time" is a similarly complex percussive cut, but with its jungle inspired Arabic horns, trancey synth-lead breakdowns and acid squelches, whilst UK house veteran Nail offers a more direct 4/4 take on the track with his typically classy remix.

Review: As Headman gears up to release his sixth album it appears he's having something of an identity crisis... Is he Headman? Or is he, as his mother named him, Robi Insinna? Either way, he's one of disco's most daring of producers and, monikers aside, anything he releases is well worth your attention. Especially this first sampler from the album 6. A collaborative affair, each track sees him teaming up with kindred spirits and friends to forge new groove paths and re-position old references. "Work" takes a Kraftwerkian recipe and stretches it like a well made pizza dough, "Barbarism" dusts off the cosmic guitars for an enlightened star-gazing session, "Der" sits happily between Black Strobe and Jeff Wayne while "Sleep Red" cruises towards DFA City Limits in a cowbell Escalade. Each one of them will have you hankering for the album. Guaranteed.

Review: Here is the second vinyl only instalment from FarFromNormal records, with a fantastic 4 track EP from the young upcoming producer Jamie Haus, This record hold's 3 original tracks from Jamie and a amazing remix from the young Romanian Groovesh. This record has a totally different vibe compared to the labels first release with a much heavier techno roll. "Mattur" is a good example of this, whilst "Inter" finds Jamie Haus on a much darker, dub vibe. "Meiose" Is packed with a fantastic rolling kick with atmospheric noises in the back, whilst the Groovesh remix comes with that brilliant Romanian touch that everyone is asking for.

Review: UK techno stalwart Steve Bicknell's Lost Recordings series must be one of the longest running in dance music; the Lost and Cosmic founder has been putting out previous unheard material from his early '90s heyday on and off since 2004. There are few surprises on this 10th edition, but plenty of slamming, no-holds-barred grooves. The hissing, spacey, cymbal-heavy "Track 3" is particularly trippy, while there's a gnarled, ragged intensity about the pulsating heaviness of "Track 1". Arguably best of all, though - ambient interlude "Track 2" aside - is "Track 4", an eerie techno shuffler built around a wonky, off-key electric piano loop and fizzing percussion.

Review: Coming on 500 limited edition coloured vinyl is this new EP from Sierra Sam on Tomoki Tamura's Holic Trax.
Analogue machine loving Sierra Sam is probably best know as a techno specialist but this EP - made up of original tracks that were first produced 15 years ago - showcases his house music
side and does so in some style. One new edit comes from Sierra Sam in cahoots with Tamura, and the label head also turns out a great DJ tool edit to complete the package.

  1. The Mist

  3. Jupiter Heat
Review: D3 Elements continues to serve up delicious house music with its next EP, which this time comes from the Detroit native MoReese. He serves up three cuts of rich, musical club sounds that continue in the Motor City's fine tradition.

MoReese marries the history of his hometown, and influences such as Derrick May and Kevin Sanderson, with his own taste for jazz, funk and soul and the results are always magical. He has been touring the world for more than two decades now, playing all over the radio, events like WMC and special four decks set at Movement festival. This new release is sure to introduce him to European crowds who will no doubt immediately fall in love with his fully formed hose sound.

Opener Jupiter Heat marries a nice smooth groove, churning percussion and blistered bass with some simple but effective sax stabs that really elevate the track to the next level. It's the sort of roller, complete with a monologue about modern life, that will really get crowds shifting shapes. 'Linear' is a more direct and hard hitting deep house cut with solid rubber kicks, slick hi hats and lush chords, keys and frazzled synth lines all adding colour, heat and a sense of joy. Lastly, feel good bouncer The Mist is stuffed with the sort of soulful vibes Terrence Parker us famous for, and as a result immediately finds a place in your affections. This is another pure house EP that exactly hits the mark.

Review: IIB next release comes from French duo Baptiste & Pierre. 2 tracks of warm tropical goodness. Virage is a deep mellow afro tinged tropical workout. Muted guitar hook and nature sounds conjuring up far flung deserted beaches. Ruf dug beefs it up a touch and moves it indoors giving it a more afterhours feel. The second track has the same evocative feel as Virage with added atmospheric pads and a bouncy melody. Like a closing track on an 80's road movie. Full of emotion. Italian maestro Deep 88 creates a truly authentic slice of early ninetoes deep dreamy house. Perfectly wrapping the original in warm analogue drums. Another quality release from IIB.

Review: Altered Moods Recordings makes its first artist foray into Asia, more specifically, it sets its sights on Nagano, Japan, where it finds a fertile and quickly expanding underground scene and one of its key players, Yoshiki Tsuchiya, also known as Miruga. Miruga has made a big splash in his relatively short arc as an underground artist. He came out strong in 2012 with "Human Tube" on Anton Zap's bellwether Ethereal Sound label after a full-length digital album on Logos Recordings two years prior. The Ethereal Sounds release brought V/A opportunities on Statik Entertainment, Rawthenticity, and Badance, as well as a guest appearance on Keith Worthy's worldly Aesthetic Audio label with "The Unusual Suspects, Vol. 1." It's that connection that was the clicher for us to sign him - not because of that label's notoriety, but because of how well Miruga attends to his craft.

Review: Bringing that tough-edged Dutch bounce like only he can, Anil Aras returns to Slap Funk with another shipment of forthright deep house righteousness that packs in heads-down techy elements alongside the addictive shuffle of the drums. "Utr" is an unabashed tribute to Aras' hometown of Utrecht that rides high on a killer chord stab, while "Anbush 46" wriggles its way into more minimal territory without losing that hard-grooving spirit. Fellow label regular Malin Genie equally twists up that percussion into a bugging beatdown that harks back to the funkiest threads of the minimal era on his remix before "My Side Of The Street" diverts into sparse 2-step territory.

Review: Kinfolk head to Philly for Kinfolk004, welcoming committed vinyl rummager and top notch DJ Billy Werner into the fold. This two track 12" is the apparent end product of that rare occurrence where budding producer sends label unsigned tracks that are actually decent. "Kick & Flutter" is a blinky blue sunrise of a tune, innocent, euphoric and, dare we say, totally Balearic... not retro but timeless. "Where the sea meets the Stones" treads a similar line but with a more incessant acidic undertone. Both perfect for chasing sunrises and sunsets... As is traditional you get a Soft Rocks remix to boot... murmured voices, gentle pulses and psychedelic repetition. Did any of the original make it in there? Just relax and enjoy it...

Review: Occasionally Jay Haze will take some time away from his productions on Contexterrior to release music with other labels like Leftroom and Desolate, or he'll provide a mix for Fabric. Here, in 2014, Jay Haze debuts on Soul Clap - and brings some friends with him. These friends are Signor Andreoni, an Italian producer that's not released a solo record since 2010 (his last was with Haze) and the unknown Jordy Lockruf. "Take A Dip" is a new-school cut of retrospective Italo with those moaning synths perfect for a Rimini dancefloor, while the two joints with Lockruf provide one clunky, slide guitar twanging disco jam and a shuffling house cut that ever so lightly verges on electro swing - but not too much!

Review: Illusion Recordings steadily built up a strong reputation from its inception in 2011, reaching for producers such as Garry Todd, Volta Cab and Acid Mondays to push an agenda of deep, forward thinking house and techno. After a few years break, the label is back with a bang, celebrating its tenth release with a bumper double pack featuring some big hitters. Keith Worthy, Norm Talley, Tommy Vicari Jr, Annie Errez, John Shima - these are all serious talents that can't be ignored, and they more than deliver to make Illusion's return a seismic one. Review: We are excited to bring to you a new friend to the Finale Sessions family and he is part of the rising cast of producers from the New York underground . This record is just letting you know that it is still the hub for top notch talent in the United States. Jordan is a special producer bringing a vibe like no other with his mix of house and techno attributes .1) Night Mask is a nasty raw down to the ground dance track with sub like kicks and percussions and its flawless arching synth give this track its basis to move like no other.2) Division Point - This track is the basis for the ep and we understand we Jordan is going with this one for sure . Division Point is part deep and raw and it gives the ep its depth that it needs to transpire on different dance floors everywhere with its floating pads and it deep drums . Flawless work I must say.3) Return is the track I dig the most on this Jordan release! It has that peek time feel to it with its techno undertones and its great drum programming which really sets this track apart from all other and we can't forget the super sub underneath all the other attributes
