Review

After recent appearances on DFA and Golf Channel, Portuguese producer Tiago makes it a hat-trick of Juno's favourite boutique imprints with this collection of tracks for ESP Institute. Presented under the alias of Sea Power & Change and dedicated to the memory of controversial New York graffiti artist Dash Snow, Tiago draws on all his production skills to deliver some powerfully melancholic moments. The heavily drugged piano lines that fracture and multiply over the shuddering beat of "Wild Combination" in particular endow your senses with a feeling of impending menace. "Mango" offers solace with the slick guitar and porn gilded soft rock melodies that breeze over the industrial drums, whilst "Strange Fruit" delivers some hypnotic synth work, augmented by the most chilling of piano melodies and underlying orchestral peril. Arriving in bespoke cover art from Mario Hugo with a hue to match the melancholia of the music, this is another winner from the good people at ESP Institute.
