The classic album that first truly broke Jeff Mills into Europe 20 years ago gets a 21st century snazzing-up, and it's remarkable upon re-listening just what breadth there is to the earliest of the Detroit hero's output. With some sly shuffling of the running order, nothing can prepare you for the switch from visceral intensity of "Jerical" to the piano-led stompathon "Changes Of Life". The complexity within Mills' production is staggering for the time, as frantic, interlocking pulses of rhythm come daggering out of his machines. Still it's the more accessible cuts such as "Late Night" that should find favour with DJs new to the Purpose Maker's ways.
