Debuting on Rush Hour via their excellent Amsterdam All Stars compilation last year, Simon Weiss was the one relative unknown quantity amidst a cast of established, quality producers. "Amsterdam Wave" did however demonstrate Weiss to be worthy of such celebrated company, and Yesterday Is Around, his subsequent release for Hometaping Is Killing Music further established Weiss as a talented producer, effortlessly gliding towards the top of our list of favourite Hometaping releases. Weiss now steps up for a release on Rush Hour, with the Wave EP featuring a Rewaved version of his All Stars contribution along with three other dusty gems. And it's the simmering jack heavy emotion of "Return (The Wave)" that particularly impresses, slowly rising from the analogue mists into a chunky rhythm that shifts the chords around the stereo channels with rough vigour, slipping in twisted analogue spirals without any notice and generally feeling like Weiss was having fun in the studio during its inception.
