Review

You may not be familiar with U-Ka, a pair of disconauts that reside in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, but that's set to change with the release of their debut album Supernova on the Groovitron label later this month. Before that, Groovitron have opened material from the album to a host of high profile producers for two remix 12"s with Ray Mang, Lusty Zanzibar and Gonno all adopting different approaches on this first one. It's no surprise to find Ray Mang transforming "Supernova" into a '80s referencing electro jam, whilst Japanese Nu Disco correspondent 9DW adds some arpeggiated Italo bounce to "Per Aspera Ad Astra". In the hands of Lusty Zanzibar, "Chilling In The Spaceship On The Outskirts Of The Universe" is given a horizontally inclined slo mo make over befitting of the title, whilst the vastly under rated Gonno provides a curveball finale with a wonderfully kaleidoscopic techno rework of "Per Aspera Ad Astra".
