The Light Fantastic CD

By his own admission, Tom Trago was attempting to go "back to basics" with this third full-length. While his most recent album, 2011's Iris, was an eclectic, all-star affair, The Light Fantastic sees the Dutch producer focus fairly and squarely on the dancefloor. While similar in outlook to his acclaimed 2009 debut, Voyage Direct, it's musically different, offering less heavy filter work and more bubbling deep house tracks blessed with vivid synth hooks and ear-pleasing melodies. There's enough variety to ensure the album offers an interesting, entertaining and involving listen, and plenty of highlights - the liquid depth of "For The Children", the late night revivalism of "Jack Me" and the electrofunk-goes-rave flex of "The Elite" are amongst his strongest tracks to date.
