Arguably the finest band to be named after a palindrome since ABBA, Berlin's To Rococo Rot have been delighting connoisseurs of krautrock and minimalism with their stylish and sleek takes on ambient and electronic music for nearly two decades; never with their feet in any one camp, they've maintained an impressively singular approach and consistent output, yet have never made any forays beyond instrumental music. Yet all of this is to change with "Instrument", which features no-wave legend and fellow pioneer Arto Lindsay on vocal duties on three tracks. Finding Lindsay a kindred spirit both in his experimental approach and 'non-musician' perspective, the band have been inspired to new heights, making "Instrument" not only a reliably refreshing new chapter in their ever-fascinating art, but a reaffirmation of their unique status on the outer limits of modern music.
