Crosstown Rebels allow us another brief glimpse at the musical talents of Turkish house artiste Denise Kurtel, with "The L Word" preceding her hotly anticipated debut album for Damian Lazarus' imprint, which is set to drop in March. And what a delight the track is, fitting in alongside recent anthemic Crosstown Rebels output from Maceo Plex and Art Department. A woozy vocal contribution from Jada is the basis, sitting atop cascading neon synths, crisp beats and the sort of warm subterranean bass championed by the likes of Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler. On remix duties, Guy Gerber excels with a deeply atmospheric reimagination that douses Jada's vocal turn with shimmering effects, the haunting pipes and reverberant pads combining beautifully. The press release confusingly claims this remix is both Moodymann meets Four Tet and classification defying, but we're tempted to agree with the latter!
