When a DJ of Ivan Smagghe's stature leaves a 150 word reaction waxing lyrical about a record, you know it’s gonna be something a little bit special. Mugwump's The Congregation Of Discalced Clerks is that record and it's a thumping release for NYC imprint Throne Of Blood, rapidly becoming contenders for label of the year. This is the first release from the Belgian duo this year after having hit paydirt of late with key releases, future classics and cool remixes for the likes of Misericord, Disco 45, International Feel and Permanent Vacation. "Concrete Skankin" is a re imagination of the Nitzer Ebb classic "Join In The Chant" that pulses with energy, all throbbing bass and oodles of acid squiggles. Flip over for "The Congregation," a neat mid tempo bumper which is reminiscent of the "Theme For Great Cities" by Simple Minds. This EP is a great taste of what to expect from Mugwump's forthcoming long player on Kompakt.
